Actually I just listened to it on the big speakers & the bassist keeps playing a rather horrid howler which spoils it a bit. Bolan's guitar playing is absolutely rocking though.
Siouxsie Sioux's a huge Marc Bolan fan. She's cited the album this single's from, "Electric Warrior" ,as her favourite rock album of all time. Not that she's a clone (she's a great singer in her own right), but it's evident his singing style influenced hers. She often likes to do that Bolan-esque quavery vibrato thing often at the end of song lines, just like Marc!
when i saw him live at Winterland in SF his guitar was unplugged for a good 5 min before he noticed - he held the cord up and laughed and plugged it in - RIP Marc Bolan
It DISGUSTS me how under-rated Bolan's contribution to music is considered He WAS in no uncertain terms a shape-shifter and game changer; his work was Pioneering and brilliant! When David Bowie worships someone you KNOW it's legit...
He shouldn't have lent his roller out that night, he'd have been a lot safer in that than a mini. Was Gloria Jones ever charged with drink driving after the crash ??
She was never charged and denies that they had been drinking. She says she simply hit a bad place in the road and lost control. She had injuries but obviously mild in comparison to his fatal injuries.
wow I was busy raising babies and some Hell back in those days.. thanks for the info!!!Now I am spoiling granbabies, riding my bike and STILL raising Hell!!
Excellent version, especially with the dry acoustics-Drums and guitar.Marc, we love your music and I believe we'll still be listening to T.Rex in the 22nd century.RIP
@muggyspin yeah, that signature, syncopated chord overlay is obviously missing, but it gives it a garage band vibe that's acceptably kick ass, imho. imagine watching/listening to this in a small venue b4 it was a hit...that's what i'm trying to say, dig?
Yeah, thanks for posting this, all the other "live" versions that I looked at were not. One of my favorite rock and roll songs- in the true spirit of rock and roll. I never get tired of hearing it.
This is so much more real and fun than the hit version. The vid that goes with it, well, doesn't seem to go with it, as in, looks shot for tv (or something) while the song sounds as if it was a studio or basement. At this late date, the more real the better, as it's all we have. Thanks for posting this.
It should've been released like this - the single was over-produced - GUESS WHY - so it can be a hit in the USA - that's Universally Superficial in America.
What you're listening to is an audio recording of T. Rex practicing. What you're seeing is footage of a T.V. performance that I manipulated and tried to sync with my audio, just to have something for you to look at while listening to this version of the song. I don't believe Bolan would have said the f-word on television!
If you like the raw sound, you should also check out "Bump 'n' Grind"--it's got some working versions of Telegram Sam and Easy Action that are really excellent.
kelewins, Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman provide the perfect foil to Marc's voice, as essential to the T. Rex sound as Visconti's serendipitous strings. ...Marc and the Turtles should sing together, you know what I mean, To hear them sing is something of a dream, Do you know what I mean?
I don't know for sure, but the remastered CD of Electric Warrior may contain this track as I know that a few outtakes were included on this disc as well as 5.1 surround sound.

ok good question feel free to ask more
youaergay 2 years ago
I saw that on e-bay...Signed by Bolan if I remember....
He also used a H&H Amp, with a Dallas Rangemaster...
Question is how do you get that tone with modern equipment or pods???
Bowieaddick 2 years ago
There's some pinch harmonics with the edge of your right hand and keeping your pick down near the bridge too.

Technically, I like this version a little bit more. It's ironic how the producer Tony Visconti also produced Adam Ant's Vive Le Rock album.
