It is hard to realise how a few time after Dire Straits released On Every Street album and offered us their last tour, they decided to call it a day. It is a sad song and a sad ending too for this awesome band. On the other hand, they left a great legacy and we can enjoy listening their stuff forever. Brilliant song, maybe one of their best songs ever and underrated as well. Thanks.

@spiffglass It's meant to be vague. It's about searching for lost love, wherever she may be. It's like alcholics getting meaning from their song "Your Latest Trick" -- which has the powerfully resonating lyric "The bottle's empty man...nothing left". One of the great things about this band -- the lyrics can mean multiple things given where you're coming from.

I saw Mark recently in Antwerp, sitting on a barstool suffering his back-pain...He gave the best-of-music he had in-him then and all the years before that, in his the-globe-round succes-years! Still A great musician ,with golden guitarfingers!

I didn't get ticket for his recent tour - I hadn't heard any of his new material on his new album. Am a little gutted. But I was kind of apprehenisve about getting tickets, because I wasn't sure if his performance of old Dire Straits songs carried the same spark that I see and love in this video, and the Old Grey Whistle Test performances etc.

If he still has that spark, then I am GUTTED big time !!

Shamefully, I drifted apart after DS split when in my early 20's I suppose (influenced by MK's compositions)to classical/baroque(thanks Mark)
