Ah, as soon as I knew the correct spelling I figured it out. Now I understand why the wifely one tolerated her hubby being a whor..., I mean horologist.
@MacNutz2 No, there's no "W", though it is the oldest profession since the beginning of the measure of time. It's been almost 30 years and yet my mother still won't tell her church friends.
I think it is a great looking pipe, maybe a large kernel corn cob pipe LOL. Well you being a horologists where would you suggest going to get an old pocket watch. I mean something that is still authentic not quartz. Something that requires winding and has jewel bearings? Just curious. I will have to head up to Springfield and check out the flea markets.
@JohnsonJB80 I would Google the AWCI Referral Directory or check out the NAWCC's site. I've been out of the profession for many years. The best deals are on Craigslist and eBay, then one of the active members of AWCI can bring it back to life, if need be.
"Pipes and Pocket Watches" - I can image that as the name of a perfect little shop that I'd love to hang out at.

@truckpipe See, ya lean stuff when you hang out with me.

Yeah.....it DOES look like a cob! Who made it....does it have markings?
Ken =)
Charredbriar 2 months ago
@Charredbriar Nope. The only markings say "Italy". I hate to say it but it was probably in a $5 drug store barrel at some point in it's life.
Aristocob 2 months ago
That could be a whole new pipe collecting category: briar pipes that look like corncobs! Very cool!
thepipeprof 2 months ago
@thepipeprof I imagine that would be a small collection, but get a couple and you can join in on the fun. Scott

So, does horology make a good hobby?
I've been thinking about getting into it lately, I love clocks but have no idea how involved repair can be.

@pfh3 Are you into woodworking? If so search "Clayton Boyer" here on YT. Otherwise it does take some time to master. (pun not intended)
