Thing is though, that even though I agree with all of you ITA's routines were the most amazing, original, impressive, interesting, awe-striking, add any adjective you want, there is a Code of Points in RG that rewards corporal difficulties more. And these other things are what the girls in the RUS group excel in. Not as interesting, not as amazing, certainly not as original; but that's what the Code wanted and that's what they did. They deserved gold even though I prefer ITA 1000x more.
I always wonder...when they play the old Soviet anthem and the Russian athletes never lip sync with it..I always wonder if they are singing to the old Soviet hymn or the new Russian hymn in their heart.

There were way too many Italians in the crowd to support the athletes, that explains the loud cheers. They did an excellent job, though, and deservingly won the gold medal. And I would like to remind you that Russia has been beaten many times in the past: Bulgaria, Belarus, Spain, Greece, to name a few countries that have won over Russia in international competitions...
Even the Italian commentators (who are certainly not known for their impartiality) admit that the Russians deserved the gold medal. I'll be more than glad to see Italy win gold, but I most certainly would not like to see everyone complain about the judging if they don't.
Majority of world experts and commentators agreed with Italy's commentators and said there was no doubt about Italy deserving the gold medal , not by one-way ridiculous nationalistic spirit but by TRUE FACTS .
But maybe Darkangel you know this sport better than them and so you're the one who is right : Russia deserved the gold because the gymnastics judges in Athens were all right,honest,competent and most of all IMPARTIAL ....:) XDD !
