  • Tell ya, even in the ending cutscene of Joe in the Tatsunoko vs Capcom, they are keeping on arguing over the issue of Joe's tendency of using Bird Missles to get rid of the foes.

  • I loved BotP as a kid, but I've always hated that they reduced the coolest and most bad-ass character from Gatchaman, Joe into a whiny bitch (Jason) for the American versions. Also that R2D2 mimic 7-fark-7 is such an annoying piece of shit that I almost completely erased him from my childhood memories of the show.

  • Watching this gave me the sudden urge to watch The Warriors. And, yes, Cracked was what brought me to this video. I actually glad I've never seen the American abortion of Gatchaman, Battle of the Planets, now.

  • Joe sounds like Iori Yagami xD

  • Somehow the bellbottoms are my favorite part.

  • Leaving my stamp here by saying

    "Sent here by cracked."

  • sometimes cracked

  • Oh, c'mon. There wasn't even blood in this scene. It would have been something intense but very memorable with kids.

  • Reminds me of the fight scene in "They Live."

  • @Wargoat6 "They Live" was literally 5 or 5.5 times longer than this (I can't remember if it was ten minutes or fifteen, it was really well done but really drawn out. John Carpenter obviously wanted to take advantage of the fact that he had casted two wrestlers that could actaully wrestler instead of just pretend that every wrestling match had some dramatic weight to it).

  • Clearly the robot scene was the more exciting one.

  • thanks cracked! this is just the kind of cartoon violence i wanted to see!

  • love the video but wish it was translated in english or subs so i can understand what they were saying.

  • Nice to see the Condor give Ken a hammering for a change. I know he's Gatchaman but Ken should know better than to challenge him (esp after the way Joe attacks Gallactors goons like a one man demolition squad) !!

  • ahhhh bad luck!!!! the fight was good.....

  • Thanks for the upload!

I don't suppose there are subs, or at least a rough translation of the dialogue?

  • Man, I wish there was a remake of the series for the current generation or something. They should know what TRUE anime was like back in the day. Even though many Americans knew this as Battle of the Planets, this show was still awesome. Thanks for posting this.

  • that was nice. i swear, i've been wanting to see those too go at it for 30 freakin years. stupid edited version...

  • This show has always rocked!!

I think American cartoons need to get the hell out of the friggin three stooges kindergarten junk toons we got and take a few lessons of the art of anime starting with Gatchaman.. I have my own ideas for American cartoons done in anime format Serious with a strong emotional story.. but i can't draw!! So many ideas no way to get them out there!

  • I am in TOTAL agreement, brilliant observation.

  • We had better animated cartoons in the 80's (Galaxy Rangers/M.A.S.K. etc) . it was the mid 90's where everything began to get too over simplified. I think Ren & Stimpy started it all.

  • @Feijoada1 WOW, I guess it's all what you grow up with, but I think the 80's was the worst decade for U.S. animation! Every show was based on some cheap and ugly toy; He Man, Rainbow Brite, G.I. Joe, etc. All of them were squeaky clean and included moral lessons at the end only to legally count as educational TV. "Ren & Stimpy" broke with all of that and set the trend for more creative Cartoon Network stuff. M.A.S.K. (another toy show) doesn't hold a candle to the decade older Gatchaman.

  • @Jolar70 Yes while its true many US cartoons back then were nothing but glorified 30 minute toy commercials but my point is the art and animation blew away anything done today which is mostly simplified crap. Boondocks being an obvious exception. Probably due to the fact the creator is a huge Anime fan

  • Neither can these guys...

  • THANK YOU. i cant agree with you more. american media needs more japan

  • I like it this fight , I like it both Mark and Jason (or Ken and Joe) simply awesome, but only on my imagination will be great if this fight will be for the love's Jun XD

  • I love JAson!!

  • While I grew up on BOTP, since I discovered the real Gatchaman I've been a proponent of it ever since. Sandy Frank downplayed the tension and straight up animosity between the two characters so much it may as well not have even been there. Joe being convinced that Ken was too lenient in his dealings with Gallactor was a major element in the dynamic between the two characters. Joe being as brutal as he was was also something I was amazed to discover in the original. Thanks for posting this!

  • Ah, BOTP was a whimpy, reduced fat, no carb, piece of junk. With 7fart7 added, every planet that Zultar attacked was "thankfully abandoned" or "everyone was evacuated" so everything they blew up or burned was just nothing. What a fart bomb, watch the original unedited Gatchaman Collection 1 through 9 for the unedited original, and great, Gatchaman.

  • haha thats awesome. I had a hard time liking that show, i love the original japanese version of gatchaman. :-)

  • What made it even worse was, when Mark and Princess would meet up with 7Fart7, the drawing was just so different, at 8 years old I could tell the difference, so it had to be total sh*t.

  • OH TOTALLY! I had this episode where they were in the "recreation room" or something and Jinpei's character is banining on the drums and everyone looks absolutly terrible...it was almost embarrassing!!! haha

  • Oh no... I totally forgot about their "jam" sessions. I think Princess was doing her Saturday Night Fever disco stuff and Keyop was drumming and if I remember correctly, Tiny was playing guitar. Ugh...

  • This stuff was the coolest--just look at those haircuts, man. total rock and roll.

  • The 70s ruled

  • and the bell bottom pants! Rockstars, total rock stars

  • word nigga

  • The wierd thing is i have a feeling they DID show this figjht scene, during the first run of the series. When I saw it later, in reruns, it was gone. But you are right with censors. Back then there could only be a certain amount of violence scenes per episodes, anbd there had to be some educational aspect. Hence, Zark and his platitudes

  • They have significance... in Gatchaman. The plot to the same episode is different in Battle of the Planets, and Jason has none of the health problems that Joe had. Too bad Sandy Frank didn't include these scenes, but I doubt the censors would have allowed it and even if they did, kids would be wondering why these teammates are slugging it out.

  • cut out scenes makes absolutely no sense. These scenes have significance in episode 101.

  • awsome fight.

  • Joe had 'em :p
