Keith Richards autobiography says that Gram did have a big part on the country music influences on the Stones music, like Wild Horses, Sweet Virginia, etc.
i'd like to think, for a moment..what if Gram joined the Rolling Stones? How great would've that been? If Mick wasnt a simpering ,jealous pansy, The Stones would've been countrified for a at least a good 2-years, before Keith and Gram cancel each other out..lol, just a thought..
i had the pleasure of getting to see emmylou harris about 3 years ago in raleigh NC... i was SHOCKED at how great she STILL sounds... amazing talent... maybe the best every female country singer (at least pure voice-wise)
Just read Keith Richards biography "Life". He had nothing but great praise for Parsons, wrote songs with him and planned an album with him during some of the thickest days for the Stones. Keith said Parsons was one of the greatest musicians he ever heard and that Parsons absolutely lived for music. To hang out with him was to play music.
For some unconscious reason last week I found myself wanting to listen to nothing but GP and Grievous Angel. So I did that for 3 or 4 days. Then I happened to Google Gram to check something and in the process saw that Sat., Nov. 5 was his birthday - he would have been 65. Happy Birthday Gram - hope you're looking down from, as Emmylou sings, " your place among the stars." Thanks for your short time with us and what you gave us. What could have been.....
If you ever get near Cleveland, OH on the 2nd Thursday of any month, Brent Kirby leads his all-star Graham Parsons' tribute act NEW SOFT SHOE onto the stage of the Happy Dog at W. 58th St. & Detroit Ave. on the west side...
Thanks again for posting this wonderful gem. And may I give a shout out to all who played the Gram Parsons tributes at the High Desert Playhouse in Joshua Tree, California. I was in a duo called Virgil Caine who played the open stage in 1996 during the day and the organizers like us so much that we were invited to come back and perform in the evening show. Also played the following year. If you want to share a memory of Gram Fest send an email to bernie.king@hotmail.com. Peace.
Amazing video. When I returned from SF to B'more in '73, my friend Kay B. said you should go see my friend Emmylou. She plays in bars around Va. & DC. Cpl years later her 1st album came out.
gram is apple pink and cherry blossom white, beautiful,i love to listen to him talk just about as much as i love to hear him sing,he will always be irreplaceable, because he was different in beautiful ways on all kinds of levels,
@1954telecaster a little to much backwoods talk for you i reckin,,it means i really like him and i,m sorry hes gone, oh, the music he could of went on to make, hope that clears things up for you, hehehe

She sounds better with Barry Tashian (of her Hot Band) on this one. But this is where it was invented, all power to them.

The early genius of this black and white video captures the past so perfectly
If you were there you know what I'm talking bout
Oliver Stone should do the biographical film in black and white It would put gram parsons higher on the map of greatness

@SydbarF That may be but he didn't write this song. Written by Tompall Glaser and Harlan Howard. First recorded in 1966 (?) by Bobby Bare.
