  • Phenomenal job! I heard this song for the first time tonight, and it was magic

  • music like this just gives me positive energy.

  • FUCK YEAH, TAKAMINE!

  • I love this video and I love you're voice is slow and soothing. :)

  • This brings back memories of my father. He would sing this to help me sleep he would play a guittar like yours soft and slow. Like he would always be there. He passed away 5 years back. Thank you for keeping his memory alive in my heart. :'( Love you daddy

  • @ariel20142 thank you ariel... thats about the nicest compliment anyone could get......

  • Very good. I enjoyed this.

  • Obviously very old film, possibly from the 20's or 30's. Clues are the antique Takamine guitar and vintage microphones.

  • I heard Dylan wrote this on a talk show or something, he just wrote it for entertainment purposes of the show, and then olds crow covered it. Though I don't know how much truth rings in that?

  • @FromHundredAcreWood

Dylan wrote the tune and chorus, but never finished the song. It was on a bootleg that circulated pretty widely, and Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show wrote the lyrics and arranged it. They snag it for several years before they recorded it, and got Dylan's permission and share copyright with him.

  • @nilradem

I should have added it was when Dylan was working on a movie soundtrack, not a talk show.

  • @FromHundredAcreWood

    sang, not snag. dyslexic fingers

  • Check out my piano cover of this song!

  • Amazing!!!!! Song!!!!!!!!

  • wow ur really good. This reminds me of what my grandpa plays for me. such a touching song

  • Having trawled the internet looking for versions of this song since watching the official Old Crow vid (which is fantastic btw), I am delighted to have found this. To my mind, it;s the way Dylan would have heard it - no big production, just great guitar, great voice and loads of heart!

  • Anybody who disliked your video has never really experienced true musicianship. You, Against Me, Mumford and Sons, and Old Crow all do this song justice. Protest songs and folks songs keep American Music alive. Keep playin' man. I love it.

  • Don't want 2 b mean but I like Old Crow Medicine Show's version of Wagon Wheel better. Thumbs up if u agree!

  • Great ass cover of a great ass song! :)

  • :)))

  • i bet its an honor to be covered by bob dylan

  • @123stoopidmonkey

Are you implying that Dylan didn't write it?

  • @Rush1013 no i posted that before i new that dylan actuallly wrote it

  • A great song, done well!

  • bob dylan isnt tht good of a singer but i pray he comes home safely along with all the other troops

  • My cousin Timothy Reck died April 25, 2011. He was an amazing musician and like a brother to me. This was a song that we would always ask him to play for us. His version was a lot like yours and listening to it brought back some wonderful memories of Timmy.

All I know is that he "died free"...

  • @stefanimarie91 .. so sorry to hear about your loss stefani... i can tell he will always be in your heart

  • @stefanimarie91 Tim was a good guy, I am sure he is jammin in a better place now.. too bad it aint here with us

  • @stefanimarie91 If he died free then he was fully at peace when he went.

  • Bob Dylan was a shitty singer I can't lie but he was probably the greatest song writer of all time

  • @funkyjunky111 i agree withu the greast writterever

  • bob dylan gave this song the chorus

the chorus is the most important part of the song if it wasnt it wouldnt be repeated over and over

therefore bob dylan should get most of the credit

  • @revolutionow1 I think that neither Bob or OCMS should get most of the credit. Bob wrote the chorus that everyone remembers and sings along to but OCMS put the story, and to me, the life into the song and made it what it is. Its a great song and you shouldnt argue over who gets most of the credit. Thats not what musics about.

  • who wrote the song dylan or old crow..?

  • I think that this version is the best

  • check out "Diet Folk" their cover is amazing

  • this song is just plain beautiful

  • Bob Dylan did not write this song fwiw

  • @Ecstaticalways I think Dylan started this song and never finished it. It remained unfinished for years. Ketch Secor of Old Crow Medicine Show wrote verses for the song around Dylan's original chorus

  • Is this GW.........? Holy s@&t I think it is!!

  • @Vaderluv are you deff he did a good job

  • Another listen was in orrder. Great jobm nicely understated, its nice that you have the 'story' of tyhe song as well, its a very cool litle story about a cool little tune. Listrn to Matt Andersens(spelling) version, so awesome.

  • Right on Man, keep on Rocking.

  • btw everybody, bob dylan originally did this, then old crow took it, transformed it in some ways, i just figured that out

  • Comment removed

  • I can't believe y'all are really arguing about who should be credited and talking down on dylan you guys are fucking stupid its obviously Dylan's song you can hear that even the verses are written in a way that Dylan would have so it's honoring him as a musician. It's called a tribute song idiots. Good cover!

  • Nice performance. Your recorded acoustic guitar sound is really above average for youtube stuff, to my ear. Great song, nice version! Bonus Points - You have caused a low grade s**t storm about the publishing rights, which I don't understand but find strangely amusing. AND on top of all of that, our troops (or at least a troop) dig it, which is top shelf!

  • I like your cover. It reminds me of my army buddy. He sang this song for us in Kuwait while we waited to go to Iraq. He played on a guitar just like yours. Maybe it's the beer talking, but I heard a little bit of him in you tonight. I ain't a praying man, but he's still over there while I'm back in America. Pray for him, if you find the time.

  • @FallaciousGee i'm honored ....i will do that...god bless him and you as well

  • go bob!

  • @FallaciousGee This post gave me chills.. Thank you!

  • @FallaciousGee prayers sent my friend. On veterans day, give him my thankyou

  • @FallaciousGee : was your Army buddies name Steven Knudson?

  • Comment removed

  • @FallaciousGee I pray he comes home safely. And i thank you, him, and every one of our soldiers for doing something many of us (including me) don't have the courage to do. I pray all of you come home safely.

  • this aint his song but he does a good job on it

  • I think its really great, no matter who thanks who is better or who came up with it, its a good song and you sing it very well.

  • love old crow medicin alot this guy sucks

  • correct title. WAGON WHEEL. OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW COVER.

  • the folk tradition in littered with ripped off melodies and lyrics...I guess the reason why woody guthrie was so into folk is that it was a very "commun"ist in that everything, be it melodies or lyrics or even modes of singing. Real folk artists would want us to stop arguing about who takes credit for the songwriting and enjoy the music.I highly doubt anyone remembers who wrote house of the rising sun but it has become so universal that being nobody's song it becomes everyones song.IE folk music

  • I wouldn't call "Wagon Wheel" a collaboration between Dylan and Old Crow...the melody and vocal inflection is a complete rip. The guy just put in his own words at the verse part, which is by far the easiest part of writing a song. The song is a hit because of its melody and chorus lines, which came 100% from Bob Dylan.

Not that big a deal because Dylan is credited, but if Old Crow had the conceit to even call the song a "collaboration" they would be dishonest people.

  • @MisterAtoms No matter how hard you try to make OCMS seem like thieves, the fact of the matter is that this song, by definition, is a collaboration. Now, while Dylan did all the hard work coming up with the INCREDIBLY unique and intricate chord progression of G, D, Em, and C, you're still a fool to insinuate that this song isn't a collaboration simply because you consider OCMS's contribution to have been easy. I would be curious to know how you define the word collaboration...

  • listen to scott dunbar version at street

  • old crow medicine show said it best....

  • mad good

  • Excellent!!

  • Great!Very well done.

  • Great job I can't understand why anyone would not like this. This is really Good

    Thanks Gord and Jody

  • Great cover!

  • what was that weird ''g'' you were playing?

  • ok, this is for prestonwolf, bob dylan, speaking as I am for him because I know his music so extensively, scrapped this song. Yeah, he came up with the chords, but the changes were so similar to the instrumental Pat Garrett and billie hte kid song, knocking on heaven's door, and as a songwriter, he scrapped that chorus for knocking on heaven's door, not to mention that it still is a brilliant song, secor, knowing that music is flexible, rocked it with rock me mama.

  • chords?

  • i could do with out the visual effects

  • O.C.M.S. Pones this in the face.

    Just Sayin.

  • Well done. If Dylan HAD recorded this, I think you have it to a T. My favourite cover of this song is by Matt Andersen. He has a few posted, but one of the best can be found by searching "Matt Andersen at Hugh's Room" and choosing the video that runs 7:13. I think you'll really enjoy his up-tempo rendition, and how he gets the crowd into it.

  • I'm watching the Dylan covers uploaded 2 utube.

Hes 1 of my faves...not bad.

  • Nice job. If Dylan had recorded this tune, I think you have the essence nailed. Nice job by Ketch Secor making a song out of it. Have you seen Matt Andersen's version? Amazing what a little energy does for the song.

Do a search for Matt Andersen at Hugh's Room with the time 7:13

  • This guy sucks. Wana hear the best version look up Nathan Farrow Wagon Wheel.

  • @DCWilliams51 Thats rude he is wasome

  • @DCWilliams51 This guy? Give him some respect. His name is BOB DYLAN! Ring any bells?!!?!?!?!?!

  • @soccergod725 WHOOPS I thought you were talking about who wrote the song.

  • Wagon Wheel is by Old Crow Medicince Show. Rock me, mama is by Bob Dylan. But they are practically the same song.

  • I prefer Against Me!'s cover.

  • @Paraflarekid me too it kills this

  • Bob Dylan is one of the most famous musicians of ALL TIME just cuz he only did part of the song or not of course they will give him credit because he is so famous!! Your an idiot if you think he doesnt deserve the credit!!!! Lets see you right hundreds of songs that are as famous as Bob Dylan's

  • Who's playing here??

  • really nice! :D

  • I hate dylan's voice but love his songs, I think he would have made a better songwritter than singer.

  • @icallpplfags What a stupid comment!

  • you are almost good.. keep up the great work

  • DYLAN forever

  • performance...very good. video production...that 'strobe effect' is completely uncalled for, it adds nothing good to the visuals.

  • if you ask me bob has his won style and feel and this has bob written all over it i like it

  • Where'd he win it?

  • Check out my cover of this song It's a different style.

  • Bob Dylan was great for his lyrics not his voice.. keep up the good work and try to make some of these songs your own! keep it up!

  • dude you look like gw bush. LOL!

  • this is a great tutorial for me. i'm learning the song by playing with this vid over and over. thanx man...

  • doin' the same thing, bro.

  • not as good as Old Crow Medicine Show. i thought they originally did it, but i've heard he did... oh well. i like the other version better:)

  • Well thanks to old crow for as billy teh kid said.........i"ll make ya famous!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent in every way.

The guitar, the vocal, the video, the presentation ... everything

    I love it !

    Thank you!

    Rick

  • like that old time video look, good guitar, sweet vocals.

  • guys, all you have to do is google and you will see that this IS a Bob Dylan song first. Rock Me Mama was the original name but Dylan never finished the song. So when Ketch and OCMS got a hold of it, they re-named it and finished it. All giving credit to Dylan.

So, Jay, you are the moron.

  • Bob Dylan signed a co-writing deal with Ketch for this song so this song is officially written by Dylan/Secor.

  • Chords are G, D, Em, C.

  • i would buy this if you made an album.

  • yes it is. bob dylan originally did this.

  • Dylan wrote the chorus for a song called rock me mama in 72 for the Pat Garret and Billy the Kid movie. OCMS then wrote the song around his chorus.

  • The chorus is from a Dylan bootleg. The verses are written by Ketch Secor

  • good job old man

  • well done man

  • Good sound man, but for me the pans are a little wide for 2 tracks. Performance was great though.

  • OLD CROW MEDICINE SHOW...........not old medicine crow jackass bastards

  • wow i thought you were bob dylan for a second lol

  • great job!! who wrote this old medicine crow or bob dylan???

  • Bob wrote the original, old medicine crows took it and add to it but never revealed the true origins of the song.

  • no, this is titled wrong, bob dylan wrote the original melody and diff words, just search rock me momma instead of wagon wheel, this guy needs to do his research..

  • No he doesn't need to do his research, more people that NEED to hear this will find it this way since they don't know the true name they know it by this title, people that have already heard it for ever, will probably know it by your title

  • My understanding is that Dylan wrote the chorus only, Secor did the lyrics and melody of the verses.

But I would say Secor wrote it in the same way Dylan gets credit for the songs on Modern Times (and the many more he took from other places.) That is not a dig at Dylan, and I am much more a Dylan fan than OCMS fan, but Ketch Secor made this song what it is. It is credited to both on the album.

  • Good music is good music--period. I enjoyed this so much. :o)

  • haha I love this song. I am from Elizabethton, Tn which is CLOSE to Johnson City. My school is in Johnson City.

  • i hate it when people try to imitate someone else's voice. just do it in your own voice man, yeesus.

  • Is this Dylan's brother??? ;))

  • Dylan wrote more great songs than anyone! This guy does this song beautiful.

  • I don't think it fair you give Dylan credit in the search function. Although he did come up with four chords and few words, he couldn't even come up with any verses. The true talent with this song comes from Secor and O.C.M.S. for his ability to identify dylans chords and chorus then come up with the amazing lyrics and the rest of the band for the great musical talent in the song.

  • the botton line is dylan wrote the music, and the lyrics to the chorus....secor wrote the lyrics to the verses....it's not that dylan "couldn't" come up with the lyrics as you say...it was just a bit of a song idea that he recorded and left alone...I'm sure he has hundreds like that...secor heard it and wrote the verses, brilliantly i might add...those 4 chords remain the same throughout the song, secor changed nothing in the music and kept the chorus...so how could you not give credit to dylan

  • exactly!

  • @1after909 I agree with all that you have said to prestonwolfe but I disagree with your tag line which says "written by Bob Dylan additional lyrics by Ketch Secor"

Secor not only wrote ALL the versus he created a whole new feel and even a slightly different melody line to Dylan's in the verse.

  • @after909 Given this enormous creative input to the version you sing, AND the fact that the Bobmeister himself is happy to have this officially stamped as co-written by Dylan/Secor and forfeit half the royalties to Ketch it only seems unresonable of you to not give Ketch more dues than you do.

  • @1after909 I agree! I'm doing the same thing with a Marley song right now. It's a great song and i don't think i could come near what Marley would have done with it had he wanted to.

  • @1after909 you said it yourself all dylan had was "just a bit of a song idea" secor made it a real song.

  • u know the whole song is only made up of four chords right?

  • @prestonwolfe i agree it was by O.C.M.S.

  • O.C.M.S. just resung it but he really did come up with it

  • @prestonwolfe Really if you read more about him he couldnt read and write, So he could come up wtih songs but sum1 had to write them for him.

  • @prestonwolfe Dylan came up with "rock me mama like a wagon wheel rock me mama any way you feel. Rock me mama like the wind and the rain rock me mama like a south bound train." Without that there would be no WAGON WHEEL.

  • @prestonwolfe I know it's been a year since you wrote this comment. Thought it worth mentioning that OCMS give Dylan credit in their liner notes on the album.

  • Well thanks, that's just the best cure for my confusion :P

  • what?

  • bob dylan was the original.then old crow medicine show did a cover then against me

  • Okay so who's the original artist for this song... I thought Against Me! were the original writers :S now I'm just confused.

  • Old Crow Medicine Show wrote the song based off of a chorus Bob Dylan wrote.

  • Nope, it was Dylan.

  • vocals are close to dylan, but/and it still sounds great.

  • thank you, i wasn't trying to sound like dylan, in fact he never sang this song, so iwouldn't of had anything to go by even if i did....

  • @dharmaxpunk dont let him misinform you. dylan did sing this song. there is actually a recording of him singing it here on youtube.

  • @jonnyjaxn dylan only sang the chorus

  • @jonnyjaxn yes but you insinuated that you couldnt possibly be trying to sound like dylan because "In fact he never sang this song, so iwouldn't if had anything to go by even if i did...."

  • nice cover... but just because your covering a bob dylan song doesn't mean you have to ty sound exactly like him put your own flare on it.

  • thats not bob dylan :(

  • the song is based on a chorus written by Bob Dylan

  • not bad but your no Matt Anderson

  • nicely done!

  • I guess I'll be the only hater...an original touch would have been nice. Repeating 4 chords isn't too hard.

  • basickly what song is you idiot. listin to the song

  • i could have very easily added hammer ons, decending bass notes etc...but i felt it would of disturbed the natural rythymn of the song..

  • some songs don't need solos. MOST songs don't need solos.

this song is a masterpiece no matter how you play it

  • Anyone who spells as badly as you do has lost the right to call anyone an idiot. Thank you, come again.

1after909- Hey man, you stand by your song, I respect that.

  • you sound like tom petty
