  • Wow man, thanks a bunch !!!

  • AWESOME!!! this video answered exactly the question i had in the most perfect way, thank you so much!

  • @rromeo004 Glad I could help!

  • @Gallgunner These instructions show you how to save in PowerPoint 2000/2003/XP format (as in, the format is the same in all of these version of PowerPoint). This older file format can also be opened in the new PowerPoint 2010. Microsoft is usually very careful to maintain backwards compatibility with older file versions; otherwise you'd lose all your work if you bought a new version of Office.

  • Thank you so much

  • Thanx you :)

  • i did save it as a ppt file..but when I got to school and opened it on PowerPoint, all my pictures and what not were not there and where my pictures where, had an "x" and my music didn't work either. What can I do to make it work and save and open normally on other computer with Powerpoint? Thanks.

  • @picvic7

I don't know about that one. I've never seen that happen before. I've never tried music, but pictures have always worked for me. It may be that your pictures are in a a format that open office can use, but powerpoint can't. Try making sure your images are in jpeg format. The same may apply to the music...experiment with the formats there, too.

  • can you e-mail it as well?

  • Email what? The video file?

  • wenever i draw a shape an annoyning line appears from center to top-right can anybody help me out and tell me how to get rid of it??

  • thank you so much.. this helped A LOT! (:

  • i have a question about open office powerpoint

    1. When you paste a picture onto a slide, how do you get rid of it's background color. like for example you paste a picture of a ball with a white background onto a slide, how do you get rid of the white background leaving you with the ball? I know how to do this on normal powerpoint xp, but i can't seem to on open office.

    thank you.

  • This would be a good topic for another screencast. I'll try to get it up in the next couple of days.

  • いいねっ!!ありがとう

  • どういたしまして!

  • could you tell me how to convert an open office presentation to video

  • I'm not really sure. The only thing I can think of is saving each slide as an image file, then using something like Windows Movie Maker to put them together in a movie file. I think it'll let you cross fade, etc, as well.

If you use Linux, ffmpeg's jpeg filter should work for you as an alternative to Windows Movie Maker.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you! I was so stuck but you helped me out! You deserve a sub and all of your vids with 5 stars! Thank you!

  • No problem!

I'm not sure what you mean by "sub" though.

  • It means subsribtion. Thank you again!

  • Thank you very much. Now I can work on this at home and then just take it to school.

  • Nice tutorial.

Can you tell me how I can save my presentation so that when the file is opened it immediately opens as an slide show and one does not first have to press F5?

  • In other words: In Micosoft Powerpoint you can save the presentation as a .pps instead of a .ppt: In Open Office, I do not see the .pps extention listed under the 'save as'?

  • I actually have no clue how to do this...maybe check the command line options for Impress. There may be one that will let you feed it a presentation to start automatically, and you can write a little batch file or bash script (depending on your os) to launch it for you.

  • I have another question not covered by the video tutorial.

I receive a Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt) slide presentation for inclusion on my web site, but it opens in edit mode rather than slide show mode.

According to a PowerPoint tutorial, you save as slide show (.pps) to accomplish this.

Can I get the same results in OpenOffice Impress?

Running Ubuntu 8.04 Linux and OOo 2.4.

  • I assume you mean you want to embed the presentation in your website so others can view it there? The easiest way to do this is to export it as an swf. To do this, choose export from the file menu, and choose Macromedia swf. This will export a flash video that can be embedded in a page, and will function similarly to an embedded power point.

This feature of Impress isn't yet perfected, but it works pretty well. I'd recommended downloading the latest version for the best results.

  • If your email provider has a limit on the file size, it has nothing to do with what file type you are using.

Gmail allows up to 20 MB per message, but if you send it to someone whose email has a lower limit, it will not go through. It would be better to burn a disc and mail it to your relatives.

  • Thank you for answeing me and excuse my ignorance again, now I saw the limit on my screen, it is 10MB. How do I know how many slides can I send under this limitation? I do not know how to burn a disk or if my computer has the capacity to perform such acitvity. My computer knowledge is very limited. I thank you again for your advise.

  • Hi! I like to use oppen office impress to create presentations. I am just a bigginer and have trouble with the extensions. I like to insert photos to send them to my relatives by e-mail but I do not how to make them pass through e-mail since it indicates that my slide show excedes the limit allowed. I usually use the pot extension. Am I using the wrong extension? What do I need to do to be able to send them in attachments?

    I appreciate your advise. Thanks

  • ha. how simple. I was expecting it but I was like, "nay. that too simple! no way it's gonna be that!"

  • thank you! this was really helpful!

  • Sure! Glad I could help!

  • I'm not really sure if it's possible. You would have to figure out how to download the video from youtube directly, and then embed it in the presentation.

As it is, youtube videos are in flash format (I think) which I don't think Open Office supports.

  • wow thanks that helped ALOT..... how do you get a youtube video onto openoffice powerpoint ?
