  • You should listen to their album. It gets better with each listen. It's been quite awhile since anyone came along to provide this genre of music. It's a really nice album, and they're a lot of fun to see live. That's more than enough to recommend a group in my opinion. I don't expect every group to be the next U2 or Beatles to thoroughly enjoy them.

  • ok, all you ppl are being really hard on these dudes and all though you kind of do have a point i can't bring myself to join you because all of these dudes seem really harmless. i mean, at least their not perpetuating unrealistic or destructive ideas about life ... but by all means, hate on someone who deserves it, it shouldn't be hard to find ...

  • Wow, Elvis Costello looks great for 56...

  • I was in the front row for this and it was awesome!

  • @swverausc214 I was front row too...def was a good show!

  • Billy Joel called...

  • @samnyc2 Id say he looks more like buddy holly

  • @oakville19 I meant his sound, in looks you are probably right.

  • honestly glad i didn't waste my time going to see him ... there was so many better shows going on ... watch the bassnectar set tell me his crowd was bored ... haha ..

  • I was there right in front of the stage, and the crowd was definitely hype!

  • @Bizzby yea man i was right up there too, great show

  • I love Mayer Hawthorene but the crowd look bored

  • youtube.com/watch?v=Sx5_fnpJe_k v funnt elephant

  • So Ann Arbor..

  • malo

  • I love Mayer, but what the heck was that Rhodes solo? It was...um....not good. Granted, this is Bonnaroo, and I pretty much expect that dude was blunted, lol!

This is not a good introduction to this great artist. If you want to know what Mayer Hawthorne is all about, look elsewhere, you short-attention-span-having people.

More to him than meets the eye, trust me.

  • Is this a comedy skit.......

  • whoa that was awful. people like this guy? lol was I just at Great America?

  • mayer hawthorne fucking rocks. on his album he played all the instruments. great music

  • omg where the hell is abbot at

  • All I hear and see is a two bit Elvis Costello wanna-be. I certainly hope people didn't pay to see this.

  • @abrasivewt no, that's not what he is. This could be construed like that, from this performance, but you really need to actually hear his record to get Mayer Hawthorne. It's vintage blue-eyed soul.

  • Another big festival with a weak ass lineup, is this a lineup for 20 something wanna be hippie, yuppie kid's who just graduated from the university of texas this sucks what a joke.

  • I hate it when I accidentally waste my time out of curiosity...

  • uhhh what did I just watch....like buddy holly came back from the dead backed by a bunch of wedding band players

  • Yeah, kinda liked his single... But this is gay

  • youtube.com/user/xxHARDKOR3xx

  • came across this in a search for bonnaroo vids

not terrible, but it sounds like any old pub band you'd see for free

who would actually pay to see this?

  • awesome

  • Dance yeah

  • AHHH he is sooo charasmaticawesomeadorable!!

  • Not his best work but he is a great musician and his kind of antiprogressive music is kind of progressive

  • It's like bonnaroo was Rick Roll'd

  • #@$@%@%@#$#$C%@$%XCX@@#$%XC%@#$X@#$@C#$@!#X#$@#$

  • sorry, but this singing is not very good.. The band is ok though

  • this is why i dont have a raido anymore

  • ewwww gross

  • #@$@%@%@#$#$C%@$%XCX@@#$%XC%@#$X@#$@C#$@!#X#$@#$

  • #@$@%@%@#$#$C%@$%XCX@@#$%XC%@#$X@#$@C#$@!#X#$@#$

  • wow

  • he sucks...can't sing and wishes he was elvis costello. Looks like a high school musical.

  • Hes a really cool guy. Met him after a show in Ohio with Passion Pit a few months ago

  • @ChinpokomonMaster I talked to him there too lol, he was really cool.

  • fucking gay

  • @isssssssce what makes it gay?

  • wow this shits gay

  • @RcUniverseGuy I love to hear close-minded-people's opinion, too. :)

  • @SERLITZ not close minded... some people don't like this shit I'm just not into it no matter how open my mind is.. little to "soft" for my liking.

  • am i the only 1 the notice the video length is 4:20

  • @420heeaad actually, it's more like 4:19. The first second is blank...darn...need to change user name or find another video!

  • @420heeaad Dude sorry I meant to vote your comment up lol but I actually hit down man, I feel like a dick.

  • @420heeaad Nope. I have seen it too.

  • @420heeaad Yes. I'm sure there are a million videos on youtube that has a length of 4:20.

  • @420heeaad It's 4:21.

  • I saw them live with Passion Pit...amazing

  • Dude is a dope DJ/Producer and MC too(search Athletic Mic League). Haters can suck it, mitten stand up!

  • @NatSelection composer too, me plays all the instruments too.

  • R&B artists that actually play their own instruments live. What a novel concept! This guy is great...therefore, he will never have a major hit. See: Remy Shand.

  • he is GR8

  • lol, I accidentally fell asleep while watching the Bannaroo webcast, so I missed this, unfortunately..well, most of of it I think

  • wqeqweqweqwe

  • Love Don't Come Easy...It's a Game of Give and Take....

  • he is great

  • rock and roll no?

  • hiy....

    AHA cool

  • These guys are the best! I went to high school with most of them (sat behind Mayer Hawthorne in health/driver's ed), and had a crush on the bassist on the far left!). So glad to see old friends becoming famous!!

  • asdddd

  • The only problem I have with this guy is that he is clearly imitating the best artists from the 1960's. That being said. I think his music is incredible. I WISH THERE WERE MORE PEOPLE MAKING MUSIC LIKE THIS TODAY. this is the type of music that fits in movies, commercials, weddings, and easy listening radio. It won't be mainstream any time soon, but i'm glad to see it on the front of youtube.

  • @wtfnj So you have a problem with him imitating the "best artists of the sixties" whilst simultaneously wishing more people were imitating the best artists of the sixties. Way to be consistent bro.

  • @miediev999

It's called having mixed feeling. It's very hard to be original these days, so I'd rather see the inspiration come from the 60's than from whatever was hot last week to the point where it's all watered down repetitive garbage. All I'm saying is that I would apreciate it that much more if I knew that it was 100% original.

  • nice job

  • elijah wood?

  • mari mascarici

  • #@$@%@%@#$#$C%@$%XCX@@#$%XC%@#$X@#$@C#$@!#X#$@#$

  • He is bringing back that oldiee style! I love it!

  • #@$@%@%@#$#$C%@$%XCX@@#$%XC%@#$X@#$@C#$@!#X#$@#$

  • Awesome...

  • aasddadddddddddddddddddddddddddd

  • It'd be way cooler if they were playing on vintage instruments. Those drums and cymbals sound awful for music that's supposed to be warm and groovin'.

  • @gjohnson1881

those ARE vintage instruments sans the drummers cymbols. the drum sound couldn't be any warmer without it disappearing in the mix.

a great musician can make a finely crafted precision instrument sound 'warm and groovin' any day of the week. the groups that sounded like this in the 1960's weren't playing 'vintage' instruments. they were using NEW fender rhodes pianos, drums, electric guitars, etc.

'outta here with all that nonsense.

  • just ain't gonna work out is probs mayer hawthorne's best. but i absolutely love the suit. is it seersucker?! :)

  • Comment removed

  • It was a hell of show! The crowd was loving him!

  • mayer hawthorne: all types of amazing. sad I couldn't go to bonnaroo.

  • yeah I saw them @ the rock n roll hotel in D.C... they put on an awesome show

  • incredible !

  • Love Mayer Hawthorne, weird that he's on the front page of youtube. He's really blowing up this year first Cochella, then Bonnaroo, now he's on youtube.

  • @FightOn4Evr

he deserves it.. he released an amazing album and as you can see he is a great performer.

  • @MrNastyzProductions

you mean he's a great imitator. the vocal style, the look, the dances, the music... it's not hard to do this seeing how every musician can download thecomplete stax, motown, and related catalogs in a torrent.

I saw an article of this guy, how he was a breath of fresh air. more like a breath of familiar air, 40 years late.

  • @satinhooks

no i mean he is a great performer... is his style original.. NO.. is this an awesome performance... yes.. and if any one could do this then he wouldn't be playing cochella and bonnaroo.

He is imitating soul and motown styles but if anything that makes him an even better performer because he makes it seem so damn fresh..

  • @MrNastyzProductions it seems fresh because no one is rehashing that sound because that sound happened 50 years ago.

would you want to listen to beach boys albums or do you want to listen to the sound-a-like groups that are imitating that sound/style, only without the great songwriting, arranging, musicianship & production value? hmmmm....

  • @satinhooks

Fuck the beach boys. They had one good album and the rest is mediocre at best.

  • great band...happy tunes with a motown salute! Great ELO number :-) happy days
