i agree totally with the comments about western and eastern dance styles (i've discussed this with many arabs) one from the heart the other from the head. though i feel she could use just a tad bit of pose her movements are everywhere while egyptian style does have its singular technique underneath it all. it should be a mix, dancing from the soul while enticing the audience with a back and forth of dancing inward and dancing outward. its hard to describe but i hope dancers would get this
Western Bellydance entertainers try to think of their audience when doing shows, to ensure the style is what they expect. If you have a Middle Eastern audience a wedding to do, this is the style you do. Otherwise it would be looking at a hiphop dancer when you asked for ballet.
Actually she is very good. People are used to seeing the 'western way of bellydance' this is the authentic 'Eastern way to bellydance' and it is the 'roots' of the dance. Western and Eastern way of dancing is very different, Western is very rigid in choreography and logical dance - Eastern is improvised and flowing all the moves together so they look seemless. She flows lovely.
I agree completely. And doing true Egyptian style like this is actually much harder than American/Choreography because this comes natural from the heart.
yes dancing improvised from the heart and flowing and seamless is way harder than people realise. When dance looks easy, you know it is hard, as the dancer has had to MAKE it look easy
She's all right... not amazing. Her movements aren't as precise as they could be... especially those jerky, shallow omi hip circles at 2:30. But otherwise, the movements are juicy and confident; and she has a lot of personality! (And the band IS watching her -- even when they're playing!)

I love this kind of dancing because it looks like it's coming from her heart.

This dancer isn't good. She's very boring and her movements are incorrect.
And the musicians aren't interested, they just weren't playing so they watched something else than their darboukas...
