Marshal Vasilevsky took 5000 tanks with him in August 1945 when he overwhelmed the Japanese in Manchuria. Tanks are great for flat country. There's a reason that it used to be called the "Manchurian Plain."

Why didn't the Japanese build great tanks? Because they had no need to! The Japanese were largely fighting on islands, or in jungles. And in China, they were facing a poorly-equipped infantry army.

The media was censored by all sides during World War II. Plus the media had sense enough to realize that they were part of the war effort. Considering the atrocities committed by the Axis, ask China about the rape of Nangking, ask Russia about the Einzatzgruppen (the Extermination Squads) don't expect a lot of sympathy for what happened to Germany and Japan during the war.

The United States and the Soviet Union were allies fighting Nazi Germany and American-Russian relations were good at that point in time. What's more interesting is that Japanese Officers were there reviewing the parade. Imperial Japan and the Soviet Union still had diplomatic relations at the time that Japan was at War with China, Great Britain, the United States and many other nations. The Soviet Union would declare war on Japan several months later. Thanks for posting this footage.
