La Fura del Baus y la música de Sakamoto fue lo mejor de la ceremonia. Lástima que nunca se editara el disco con la música oficial de la ceremonia por problemas discográficos. Me encantaría conseguirla.

Pues para mi esta ceremonia es la mejor de todas, por su diseño artístico, calidad de producción, y más aun este segmento. Nunca se ha vuelto a ver algo de tanto poder escénico, imaginación y despliegue artístico, ni en Beijing que fue ostentoso pero no tuvo este calor humano. La mejor ceremonia es esta

La Fura and Sakamoto is a perfect artistic cross for me in that opening. The final of this song is beautiful but it isn't in this video. Listen the sequence, worthwhile.

Te dije que buscaras este vídeo, pero ya lo he buscado yo. Esta parte de la ceremonia fue la que más gustó. Es "El mar Mediterráneo". Fue creado por un grupo catalán de teatro que hace cosas muy raras. Pero cuando se vio en la TV estuvo muy bonito, espectacular. Este vídeo no tiene mucha definición. Lo puedes ver también en el modo de pantalla grande, pero aún con menos definición. Esas "olas" del mar eran preciosas, brillaban mucho. Y aquí no se aprecian cosas que se vieron en la TV.

The Art is for interpretation. If you need to know something about the ceremony, BEFORE the ceremony, you may read about the interpretations, myths, stories, etc. Talking WHILE some art is performed is VERY BAD TASTE AND BAD EDUCATION. Here, we can not hear the Sakamoto music! SAKAMOTO was there and the commentators did it not realize about the music, for the TV watchers. I'd killed them, f**king retards...

this is an amazing opening ceremony, was the first to use artistic music, floor mat inspired in the theme of the ceremony, great costumes, they where the first to narrate a story and also changed the way the cauldron would be lit for presending olympics,amazing and I'm not spanish

Amazingly, this opening ceremony was done by La Fura dels Baus, a VERY avante garde performance art group from Barcelona. I saw them twice in the 90's and both performances were among the most amazing things I'd ever seen. Very cool, very artsy, but totally nuts, very edgy.

Actually, I believe the Trinidadian carnival artist, Peter Minshall, did the Barcelona games....He won an Emmy for it.

I just looked at a few sites and it looks like this was some kind of collaboration between La Fura dels Baus and Peter Minshall. They both definitely worked on it -- you can hear the announcer on this video mention the La Fura's name name in spanish at the beginning of the video. I would guess that since they're local La Fura was the driving force -- maybe Peter Minshall did the costumes, which look pretty carnival-inspired.  Who knows, but regardless, super cool!

@ExFriend Indeed, Peter Minshall did all the costumes. He collaborated with Fura dels Baus. And yes he's from Trinidad. I'm from Trinidad and we are very proud of him here. He's a genius...
