@efishunter Hyper partisanship will not get the budget balanced. Bush tax cuts were $700 Billion over 10 years that is $70 Billion a year (revenue). Obama debt is over $1.5 Trillion per year (spending). The overwhelming problem is obviously spending. We need tax reform to remove tax preferences and loopholes and simplify the tax code. Why should GE and other large multinationals pay zero taxes. But this extra spending added under Obama needs to be reduced. Rand Paul is a leader.

@a4finger revenues are $200 Billion per month. That is more than enough to fund our government. Why are tax cuts always sunsetted after 10 years but government programs last forever even if those programs don't work? Government workers make twice the money and benefits that private sector employees make. The simple reason is a combination of bribery & coercion by the same public unions. I agree with FDR that there should be no collective bargaining for Govt. employees.

The problem with raising the debt ceiling, while simultaneously promoting a balanged budget ammendment, is that the debt ceiling shouldn't have to be raised if there's a balanced budget :P

@MickeyDee0341 Paul is willing to compomise additional short-term debt for assurances that, in the long term, the debt levels will be brought down and hard limits (a constitutional amendment) will be put in place to ensure this doesn't happen again.

Given that a balanced budget won't be achieved by August, short of slashing and burning, it seems to be a reasonable compromise.
