Not only the music was good, but I remember when we used to dress like this going to high school. We had much more style in the late 80's and early 90's then any of these kids have now with their thug threads.
I want to bring R&B back to the way it used to be whereas women swooned over the guy because he was emotionally connected with himself, and able to understand how she should feel to not be taken for granted. No particular reason. He was just being creative and different! He had to create a gimmick or image unique to him that would set him apart from all the other singers/musicians. So he wore the half goatee and at one point a half beard.
