Do I want to live forever? Yes of course. I want to see the wonders that our species can do. I want to explore space. Do I want to live in a machine? Only if that machine is a drone body that interacts with the outside world. I would rather just be able to re-sequence my DNA and halt or reverse the aging process, or replace parts that go bad with ones that wont, either biological or technological.

There are so many points to be thought about here that are often overlooked/oversimplified.
- When does someone stop being "human"? A leg? An Arm? A loss of free will to a group mind?
- Does this mean that those without financial resources will be left behind simply by being born into poverty or lacking skills/resources to "pay-in-to" the future?
- Do transhumanists have the right to force other humans to augment or does the individual retain self-determination over their status?

Transhumanists have failed to give a good philosophical definition of "self" or "soul", but to most people that will be irrelevant.

Also new technology becomes cheaper over time. At one time cars were only available to the super rich. Now a poor man's car is better than the most expensive cars of the early 20th century.
In relation to point two, as one of the area's of Transhumanist interest is in 'Gene-fixing', there is a good chance that some very beneficial changes could be paid for by the rich, but end up nearly universal over time. Say that a gene therapy for depression is released, that means long term medical depression for you is impossible and short term depression is limited. Provide the rich keep having kids with the help, eventually that gene is liable to be spread far and wide.

Do I want to live forever? Yes of course. I want to see the wonders that our species can do. I want to explore space. Do I want to live in a machine? Only if that machine is a drone body that interacts with the outside world. Transhumanists have failed to give a good philosophical definition of "self" or "soul", but to most people that will be irrelevant.
Many will choose not to undergo bodily modification, and we can assume their rights will be respected just like the Amish of today who don't participate in modern technology.
Also new technology becomes cheaper over time. At one time cars were only available to the super rich. Now a poor man's car is better than the most expensive cars of the early 20th century.

In relation to point two, as one of the area's of Transhumanist interest is in 'Gene-fixing', there is a good chance that some very beneficial changes could be paid for by the rich, but end up nearly universal over time. Say that a gene therapy for depression is released, that means long term medical depression for you is impossible and short term depression is limited. Provide the rich keep having kids with the help, eventually that gene is liable to be spread far and wide.

You create a false dichotomy between science and spirituality. You give no evidence to support your claim of mutual exclusivity. I have my own personal testimony as evidence to the contrary. I am a spiritual person who also uses science to understand and improve the world. Becoming an advanced life form is a righteous goal. And the possibilities are endless.

The hive mind would be the ultimate triumph of humanity...at present we are profoundly limited biological machines. Quantum computing would be virtually limitless...while our current chemical based mental processes can barely manage ~ 10 quadrillion operations/sec. Even if the majority of a population were to be excluded from this advancement...the knowledge and intellectual abilities gained by the progressive minority would far out weigh the value of the collective masses.

In fact the Prophet Muhammad had said that it is possible to know god through technology, that through knowledge of the universe we can know god. The Koran is said to encourage the study of nature through science to understand god which is believed to be manifested in all forms in the universe.
