The most common flies of choice are known as the Rasta or the Mona Lisa...size and colors are to mimic local baitfish. Unless you spent time in this area, you wouldn't know what these are or have seen one properly tied.
We fish 9 and 10 wt rods for the roosters. Using overweighted intermediate lines...as for flies...it becomes much tougher. Most standard flies turn on their sides when stripped. Flies are designed to keel and mimic the local baitfish ...Most days we tie the night before/morning of fishing based on what happened the day before. The flies are nothing like you would find in most shops or have seen in books. these fish are insanely picky to presentation.
The fish was released unharmed. The release shots were awesome as the fish swam away and Jeff erupted into a high-fiving machine. We release all Roosters whenever possible. If interested in partaking in an adventure, please let me know.
@raymond13mx We fish the area from Los Barriles to Los Frailes. The fishing generally picks up in March and stay good through mid-July. Last year I was down there with guests from April 20th through June 15th.

Good luck...it's been a cold and windy spring so far. Not much happening as of today. Some smaller bait around

Awesome, thanks. We're driving down to Los Frailes at the end of the month. I'm bringing all of my tying stuff for sure.
