  • Favorite song on the album.

  • @simonsaintgilles Me too, joint favourite with 'Veteran's Day Poppy', a joyous, romping close to the album despite its downbeat subject matter.

  • I listened to music in my childhood that people told me was ''heavy'', grindcore, black metal, hip hop, but they don't seem to get under your skin the same way this song does.

  • I see Headbangers before me - and the Roots of Metal. Just listen to the Riffs - It's soooo deep... Remindes me of going out West by Tom Waits. I just love this tune. And i was born 16 years after the release. This is all so weird. I wanna run inside a forest and get wasted...

  • Doorman this is indeed trippy bonfire-dancing music, in fact I'm pretty sure that it's the official campfire dancing tune of the great verdant state. or at least it ought to be.

  • L O V E this.

  • I haven't liked the rest of TMR that I've heard but this song is great.

  • @QEDasalimit Nobody likes it at first. You have to study it, and then you have an epiphony. It will come, with patience.

  • Zero dislikes. I like that :o)

  • @Njal55 Evidently no-one likes justin bieber...

  • welp.... that goes to show ya what a moon can do......

  • fast and bulbous.

  • @AskellJag That's right, the mascara snake!

  • 2deep4me

  • ANYONE KNOW WHERE HE GOT HIS NAME FROM? APPARENTLY, IT WAS HIS ESTRANGED UNCLES NICK NAME, DUE TO HIS UNCLES PARTY TRICK OF GETTING HIS DICK OUT AT AND ANNOUNCING 'ANYONE WANT SOME BBEFHEART?'. :)

  • @TerryDunlopFunBag He said in an interview he chose the name because he had a beef in his heart with society.

  • @TerryDunlopFunBag It was the name of a character that he and Zappa created in their youth, but Don assumed the name for himself. He came up with a ton of other reasons in interviews, but i'm pretty sure this is where it originated.

  • Before Pink Floyd There was Captain?

  • this song makes me want to dance feverishly around a bonfire

  • @doorman292 Your comment made me love the song so much more.

  • those guitars really sizzle!

  • dude. the cap'n's got melody like you wouldn't believe. You don't hear the Billie Holiday, the pop structures, the invisible music?

Don't listen to what they're playing, per se. Listen to what they're playing *together*

Admittedly, this one does have a "riff," but so does those othas dusty dusty blow back...it's just not there when you're listening like its other music.

  • I like a lot of different music but, when I come back to the Captain, there is just nothing to compare. He was probably the best music artist ever, period.

  • Give me that old time religion.

  • Beefheart, one of the greatest artists of all time, RIP Don...

  • the problem with this Beefheart song is that its comprehensible and i can hear what he is saying

  • go's to show ya what a moon can doooo!!!it did for me!

  • ahaha... lmfao... beefheart's making catchy tunes are like lady gaga making a death metal song.. fans always becoming disappointed if artist doesn't make what fans expected...

but as i read in wiki, it's a parody song so don't worry... it's just another charm of TMReplica..

btw. i thought i could have a son and not be as proud, as i was when i heard that groening is a fan of vliet and zappa,

  • RIP Captain :(

  • Apparently this is Matt Groening's favorite album. Genius breeds genius?

  • RIP cap

  • :(

  • did the world just get shitter?

  • AND I WILL WEAR YOU ON MY SLEEVE AND ILL WEAR YOU DOWN AND RUB YOU OUT AND REINVENT YOU AND FIND MY CHIEF AND WALK BESIDE YOU WITH MY HAIR ALL BLEACHED IN THE SUNLIGHT OF YOUR CARE AND YOU WILL MAKE ME REALISE IM THERE REALISE IM THERE REALISE IM READY TO PASS INTO THE FAIRLIGHT SEE YOU STANDING THERE IN THE MALESTROM OF MIDNIGHT....and o fuck i lost my train it was derailed by your parting....RIP DVV

  • 0:52 is so insanely delicious

  • According to Bill Harkleroad (Zoot Horn Rollo) this song was originally intended to appear on Strictly Personal, the predecessor of Trout mask replica, where it ended up. That could explain its being comparatively melodious. See beefheartdotcom's notes about a John Ellis' interview with Bill in 1994.

  • Rest in peace, Don. Thanks for countless hours of bliss listening to this.

  • Every indie/alt rock band in the universe sounds like they're not really trying compared to this. Totally exceptional. Never equalled.

    THIS MUSIC WILL LIVE FOREVER!

Thank you, Captain. Be at peace.

  • The Man and the Song that Changed My Life. LOVE you forever Don!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • R.I.P. captain, do heaven good, you genius.

  • RIP, Captain.

  • Today is a bad day, R.I.P. dear Captain.

  • Rest In Peace,Don...say hello to Frank Zappa for us

  • got a copy of safe as milk in 69 loved him like a bro since a squid eating dough in a polyethylene bag is feston bulbous got me? i shall be playing many tracks in his honoured memory a zig zag wanderer

  • I can't believe the fact he has died... RIP Captain...:(

  • RIP Captain!

  • I had a chance to meet and actually jam with the Captain in the spring of 69 when my own band was beginning and his words of wisdom guided me on my own musical career. To this day I hear him speaking those words to me. The Captain was truly a magical person and his artistic style not only a head of its time but will continue to speak volumes to the generations yet to come. We lost one of the worlds greatest creative minds. RIP Master Beefheart

  • No more bridge from Tuesday t' Friday...

  • great

  • RIP.

  • That just goes to show you what uh moon can doooo...

    R.I.P. Don Van Vliet

  • Rule forever!

  • Rip Master

  • Rest in peace, Don. You deserve it.

  • A tinned teardrop for the Captain. R.I.P.

  • RIP. Genius.

  • Rest in peace Captain, you will be greatly missed.

  • RIP

  • R.I.P. Captain

    We already miss you

  • FUCK.

    R.I.P Don Van Vliet....

  • This song sounds like Joe Cocker, Eddie Vedder, and the Beatles conceived a child in the womb of Scott Stapp, and then proceeded to smash the newborn's head into the walls of a satanic temple of worship until it could no longer function.

    Fucking amazing.

  • @ripkurdt Scott Stapp fucking sucks.

  • @scythe590 I know. That was the point of adding him in, to add the "what the fuck am I listening to?" portion of the Captain's singing style. I hate Scott Stapp, not a day goes by where I don't mock him. Haha

  • Heavy metal!

  • HolyFerdinand you are RIGHT this stuff kicks ASS YEAAAAAAAAHHHHH

  • this is unreal..

  • this stuff gets better the more you don't listen to it.

  • the best song EVER

  • @palteonato You could be right

  • This just those things that you get or don't. I thank god everyday I get it. Frank Zappa and Don Van Vliet are geniuses beyond comparison. And you got to love the captain for one comment if for nothing else(if you're a retard who doesn't get art) "Who is this Bongo?" when asked to tour with U2.

  • Clearly the Cpas attempt at a hit single (?!?).

All homo saps should be led into the dark woods at 13 and fed LSD while this is played into their nervous system-MAGIC(k) indeed!

  • @MrChrisHermes

    You're a fucking idiot.

  • no entry 4 tha hoodle-peds

  • IM FROM VERMONT!

  • HOW MANY SINGLES DID THIS RECORD PRODUCE

  • @cymbal7bandit7 9 and counting!

  • you genius!

  • Comment removed

  • @salsburysteakjr That makes sense, it has quite a different feel to most of the other tracks - almost commercial in fact lol!

  • @kristalklass I think this only sounds rather commercial in comparison to everything else on the record. This ALLLLLMOST sounds like it has a melody, ALMOST. I find it rather especially catchy, m'self....

  • @salsburysteakjr when you start listening to Captain Beefheart, you find everything quite cactchy ;), rip captain.

  • @salsburysteakjr The album is full of melodies.

  • i remember when i was like 15 or 16 and i was always reading rock n' roll journals and such looking for new stuff to check out and i heard about the captain. i went down to this awesome music store where the owner really knew his stuff and had like everything. he told me it was for a certain taste. that it was out of tune, of beat, abstract and out there. being a teenager that sounded fucking awesome and i haven't looked back since. fucking awesome!!!! thanks for posting. one of my favs!!

  • Yeah!

    tnx for the post!
