Dammit. This is NOT the Battle of San Jacinto tune "Will You Come to the Bower".
The Texas history tune, set to Sir Thomas Moore's lyrics, can be found if you google "Will You Come to the Bower" AND Carl Peterson. YouTube won't accept my attempt to post the link. I hope the Texas Army didn't screw it up at yesterday's re-enactment.
@MattiusIV That's what happened, people figured it was a more fitting choice, I like our national anthem but I don't like Ireland's Call, I know they sing it for the north but the words and tune are dreary after a while. Come To The Bower is a lovely tune with great lyrics.
@EveryTongueShallTell well when a song is made specifically for politcal purposes, it loses artistic merit, so irelands call is never gonna be top of the list, unless your a diehard rugby fan, and even then, im sure your reasons for the choice would be limited to rugby.
The version you have posted IS the Texas version..... I suppose by todays standards it's a bit mushy and trite , like the orginal words to greensleeves. Romantic rather than erotic lyrics.
@1alasdar1 Have your friends post to YouTube the "Texas version".... A different song altogether, with lyrics from the Sir Thomas Moore poem. YouTube won't allow me to post the link.
Google "Will You Come to The Bower" AND Carl Peterson for the tune played at San Jacinto.

@EveryTongueShallTell would have been great choice, but soldiers song has better back story so for me is more fitting national anthem.

Of course San Jacinto!
Supposedly it was the only tune the fifers of the Texas Army all knew, and could play together.
Remember Goliad! Remember the Alamo!.

It is the Battle song of San Jacinto. The words are different in Texas
Will you come to the bower I have shaded for you?
Your bed shall be of roses, be spangled with dew
Will you, wil you come to the bower?
There under the bower on soft roses you'll lie
With a blush on your cheek, but a smile in your eye
will you, will you smile my beloved
But the roses we press shall not rival your lips nor the dew be so sweet as the kisses we'll sip
Will you kiss me my beloved?

Will you come and awake our dear land from its slumber
And her fetters we will break, links that long have encumbered,
And the air will resound, with Hosanna to greet you,
On the shore will be found, gallant Irishmen to meet you.
