  • Pernell Whittaker >>>> Julio Cesar Chavez

  • I clicked the like button be4 the video even started..

  • This guy is more than a legend and icon. He was a mythical fighter.

  • Pound for pound, Whitaker is without doubt the finest boxer of the last 25 years based on career accomplishments and talent. Not many have looked utterly imperious and dominant for long periods in two of the original eight weights, but Whitaker did. I'd challenge any other fighter of a similar weight to box 84 rounds against Ramirez, De la Hoya, Chavez, McGirt & Nelson and take fewer clean shots than Pea did.

  • superhuman

  • this is who i train to try and fight like, watch my boxing fight on my videos

  • this guy the 2nd cumming of willy pep MAYBEE BETTER and you morins gonna compare him to mayweather???????learn f n boxing this guy wouldas beat DURAN at lightweght no 1 can say that

  • mayweather? or whitaker? f#ck them both muhammad ali all day!

  • 4:34 - 4:50 ....stupid fucking referee.

  • All bullet's grazed his shoulder.

  • Thank you very much for making and posting this video. I greatly appreciate it.

  • one of the top 5 boxers in history period

  • Hard guy to hit

  • 4:25, why the ref didn't stop it?

  • One of the best of all time but floyd is better.

  • @KevinCV14 Floyd never fought Julio in his prime or an Oscar in his prime, or a Felix Trindad in his prime for that matter. Floyd has rarely ever taken a tough fight, he picks his fights because styles make fights. Not taking anything away form him but Pernell stepped up to fight anyone at any time even when he didn't have it anymore, he was a true fighter and boxer. Floyd ain't got shit on Sweat Pea son.

  • @NeoOsiris19i cant stand mayweather but the man is 42-0 and he has fought some very good men Victor Ortiz,Shane Mosley,Ricky Hatton,Oscar De La Hoya,Arturo Gatti

sometimes you gota give credit where credit is due

  • @NeoOsiris19 so true happy new year bro you truly no your bocing

  • He probably could dodge a bullet lol

  • see that smile on delahoya s face at 323 thats a smile like who the fk am i in the ring with lmaoooooooooooooooooooooo and thats wene dlhoya was 26 and in his prime and whitaker still made him look silly and wasw robbed in that fight

  • MAYWEATHER COULDNT CARRY SWEET P-EAS SWEATY FKN JOCK pea bear everyone and there grandmothers he TAMEDDDDD 1 of the best fighters ever in j c chavez 9 rnds 2 3 lol beat a 26 yr old delhoya at 34 (what wlse is new)all coled up.......azuma nelson hall o0 fame fighter after hall o fame fighter may jr shouldnt be in this guys conversatuon or pac 4 that matter.never thought i d say this but i d be hard 2 pick duran or sweet pea at lightweght and he never cherry piked a opponent in his fkn life

  • counter koooooooooooo

  • Harlem Shake at 3:44 !!! LOL

  • That wobble at 3:45 is great!! LOL

  • pernell is the definition of a very slick fighter...that guy can dodge a bullet if he wanted to..

  • my nigga walks outta that corner like a boss. 4:12

  • the ending was pretty sik

  • 3:23 oscar de la oya se rie xP

  • De La Hoya hit nothing but fresh air and Pea was robbed in that fight :(

  • li really like this video this i now one of my favorite videos now but lets be honest floyd has way more stamina than pernell ever did. floyd probably too be honest if you really think about it pernell would have lost to floyd by ko, Just THINK ABOUT IT REALLY HARD. Go and check out pernell's whole fights.

  • @akiratoriyamagtz88 How is Floyd suppose to knock some one out who has never been knocked out and fought some fighters that hit MUCH HARDER than Floyd does. He didn't get hit much but when he did get caught clean and hard he was rarely if ever hurt. Floyd usually blocks and rolls punches. Pernell will drop his hands and stand stationary and still couldn't be hit.

  • sweet pea is a beast but keep it real guys Floyd punches faster and more accurately than pernell. Sweet pea threw more puches. And to Floyds credit because a lot of people forget real fast when it comes to Floyd i like this little video too but Floyd bearly gets hit also

  • Im pretty sure Edward Cullen could beat his ass.

  • 1:28 lol he like tapped his head last punch

  • The way he dodges youd think the fights were rehearsed for a movie. His ring savy was unreal. You can't teach this.

  • brilliant boxer, horrible coach

  • look how pernell made dela HOYA miss like that, that was classic pernell

  • Comment removed

  • 1:44 holy fuck

  • Holy shit @3:18 against De la Hoya:D

A prime Pernell would KILL him..

  • @blackadam06 prime pernell WOULD BE ON CRACK SNIFFING IT UP FROM HIS SISTERS ASS PACMAN IS THE BEST!!!!

  • @mtWHITE100 You are the cancer that is killing boxing.

  • @mickel1470 screw you im no cancer ur a flomo thats killing boxing

  • @blackadam06 totally not proven and sweet crack on crack? proven

  • @mtWHITE100

Then go do some more research...

  • @blackadam06 no u do some more research

  • AWESOME, TOTALLY AWESOME!

  • favorite boxer ever

  • Why keep tryna hit him once he goes into his joking mode.Id throw all my weight on him and force him down instead of wasting energy missing.Dirty tactics for funny guys lol. Love the dude tho.Had crazy skills.

  • I hate when people hype up their personal opinions to get highest rated comments. Any boxing analyst will tell you what we all know...and what we all know is that Whitaker and Mayweather are VERY similar in fighting style and ability so let's not falsify things and try to space them out when they are so near one another...only difference is Floyd hasn't been inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame yet...

  • whitaker >>> judah

  • @danhantheman no chance

  • Before clicking the video, I had a suspicion one of the top comments would be a Floyd - Whitaker comparison.

  • @1diazsantana1 lol ikr

  • @1diazsantana1 he fought roger mayweather floyds dad

  • He changes hand speeds so fluidly and naturally. It confuses his opponents.

  • I'd MUCH rather watch Floyd vs Sweet Pea than Floyd vs. Manny

  • 1:50 was fucking sick.

  • TI DOVEVO RIVEDERE !!!!!! GRAZIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

  • damn...why can't african american boxers nowadays fight like him....

  • @coolmartcola

not many challenges these days..he needed to push himself in his era cause there were top fighters

  • I hate it when people say Brandon Rios is a good boxer :( I wish Whitaker could come back and show everybody what is Good Boxing!

  • @21hayabusa i know right..

  • 2:34 - 2:46 guy dancing in background lol

  • sweet pea >floyd

  • @GeGeMus11

BLASPHEMY!!!..don't ever mention Floyd anywhere near the GREAT SWEAT PEA

  • @GeGeMus11 sweat pea > manny?

  • @GeGeMus11 u sure about that

  • Pernell shits on most fighters around today other than mayweather maybe.

i'd put him in my top 5. he was never truly beaten until the trinidad fight

  • Thank you so much for this video.

  • Pee wee was great but his "DEFENSE" was over rated. NOT saying he was not great, YES HE WAS EXCELLENT but anyone that saw his fights knows that he spend most of the fight trying not to get hit, rather than hitting. That's why many of his fights had controversy. Very hard to judge. He would try to clown and run, squat, move etc etc but many fighters were always chasing him. It almost seemed that he never fought to win, he fought not to lose, if you know what I mean. His game was mostly defense.

  • @pkbosslac sounds like your criticizing his lack of offense. Nothing you just said has anything to do with his "DEFENSE" being overrated. Defensively he is top 3 ever. Him not throwing many punches has nothing to do with his DEFENSE.

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Im not criticizing anything, Im just giving my reason on why he was one of the greatest defensive fighters. He concentrated on defense not offense is my point.

  • @pkbosslac Your right he probably didnt concentrate enough on offense but that dosnt make his defense overrated. A great defensive fighter>>>>>>>>> a great offensive fighter

  • @ben1ben2ben1 I disagree, because offensive fighters can also be great. Look at Chavez and Pacman. I believe that it comes down to styles. What style each person prefers. I personally never liked his style. he was a great boxer but I didnt like his style. I prefer fighter who will can defend but who are aggressive. Fighters that go up to the ring and try to KO guys out. Guys that act like they want to win. Boxing but with aggression. Im Mexican so obviously my style of boxer is aggressive.

  • @pkbosslac I meant a great defensive fighter usually beats a great offensive fighter (which is true). Guys like Mayweather, Sweat Pea, Willie Pep are the type of fighter that makes boxing "the sweat science", but it does come down to preference. And pac man has HORRIBLE defense BTW

  • @ben1ben2ben1 I disagree again, great defense does not beat great offense. There is not such thing. You need offense to score points. You need a combination of boths. Some dudes just like to defend more. You need to look up the definition of "Horrible" before you say his defense is that. Maybe his defense is not great but If he had "Horrible" defense he would never beat anyone. Plus, that would go against your theory of defense beating offense. He is an all-time great with "horrible" defense ha

  • @pkbosslac Horrible by all time great standards (or top 10 ww today standards)! Obviously you need offense to win fights but a fighter who is a 10 in defense and a 6 in offense will beat a fighter who is a 10 in offense and a 6 in defense 9 times out of ten. Il watch mayweathers ridicules shoulder roll (like only he can do) or sweat P dodging punches like bullets over pac and arturo gatti throwing wild punches with little defense any day!

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Dude there is no such thing. You are making up your own rankings haha. Tell me where in boxing or how the hell do they rank fighters by defense? Where do you come up with this 10 and 6 nonsense haha. You are just making shit up. Fuck arturo Gatti, I rather watch Chavez, Finito, Leonard, Duran, Benitez, Pacman, Trinidad, Sugar Ray RObinson, Tyson, Holyfield, Hearns, Hagler, Barrera, Morales, Marquez, over mayweather and Pernell any day. Like I said it comes down to each person.

  • @pkbosslac hypothetically speaking IF ONE BOXER IS A 10 (as in a scale from 1 to 10. For example mayweather) IN DEFENSE AND A 6 IN OFENCE (as in an ok offense fighter Ex. JMM) AND ANOTHER BOXER IS A 10 IN OFFENSE (as in great offensively) AND A 6 IN DEFENSE (as in he is ok but average at defense, Ex. Manny) THEN THE DEFENSIVE FIGHTER WILL ALMOST ALWAYS WIN!!!!!! What fucking rankings are you fucking talking about? I was saying a great defensive fighter beats a great offensive one and its true!!

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Im talking about your hypothetical scale. That shit is fake. There is no such thing. Only because you think a fighter is a 10 in defense doesn't mean someone else will. You have no evidence or statistics to support that shit. Its only your opinion, thats why I say its a stupid to even argue that crap ha. "Oh defense will always win" ok dick. Shit makes no sense. Your shit is based on opinion not FACTS. You can make up all the scales you want but It dont prove jack shit.

  • @ben1ben2ben1 You said it yourself, HYPOTHETICAL. You claim Pacman has HORRIBLE defense, so according to your imaginary scale, that would put someone at around 1 ha. While I think his defense is solid i would put him on a 6 or 7. What you don't understand is that to many fighters, OFFENSE is the best DEFENSE. If you dominate offensively the guy wont hit because he has to respect your offense. Your lame hypothetical scale is fucking stupid. It makes no sense. Every fighters is different.

  • @pkbosslac Holy fuck you dont get it. Im saying a Great defensive fighter with ok offense almost always beats a offensive fighter with decent defense. Defense is more important (but less fan friendly) the offense! And i said he has "HORRIBLE DEFENSE BY TOP 10 WW STANDARDS"!!! Manny still has ok defense but not compared to the other top WW. And you kind of have no credibility left after you said that Sweet Peas "DEFENSE" is overrated. Manny gets hit WAy TO MUCH! Even Freddy Roach said so

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Poor guy!!! I understood your theory the first time. You keep repeating the same shit. I already told you what i think. The problem is that YOU dont understand what i'm saying. You keep stating an OPINION and it's not a fact. HOLY FUCK, can't you understand that?

  • @pkbosslac - This Ben1 guy doesn't understand shit.. His "hypothetical" opinion from another vid about tyson was also full of shit... his claims has no backing and he does not understand, even at times when its clearly written....

  • @pkbosslac actually i think Wille Pep or Slapsey Maxey won a fight without ever throwing a punch

  • @MrMines83 Well that's great. They won ONE fight haha. Offense can be your best defense.

  • @ben1ben2ben1 Well you like the sweet science but I like the aggressive science haha. I like a combination of both. willie pep actually would fight. He had great defense but would BEAT your ass. You can fight Mayweather and Pernell and still go to a Club or a Wedding after the fight haha. Its just different. I prefer other fighters. The guy who is considered the greatest of all time Sugar Ray Robinson was known for his offense not defense. The list goes on and on.

  • 3:40 unbelieveable

  • LOL Check out the guy in the crowd @ 2:34

  • Better boxer Freddie Roach or Pernell Whitaker??? Why is everybody on Roach nuts he's talking shit about fighters! I hope Zab and Pernell shut up Roach and Khan!

  • being a fan of both pernell and floyd, i think pernell would outbox floyd but it would be close since both of them have pretty much mastered the boxing fundamentals.

pernell whitaker vs pacquiao would not even be close. pernell would destroy that chump. we saw what marquez outbox pacquiao twice and with all due respect to marquez, he frankly isn't in the same league as sweet pea.

  • Sweet Sweet

  • 3:25...fuck

  • goat

  • Pernell Whitaker makes nu metal sound good. That's how good he is.

  • c. Legend

  • Sweet Pea was one hell of a fighter. In my opinion, one of the best defensive boxers of all time.

  • bang on 21hayabusa, my thoughts exactly, the precision and defensive prowess of whitaker would've fustrated Paquioa and like you I agree that Pacquiao is fantastic but Pacquiao beat a 35 year old De La Hoya and an old Mosley. It was unfortunate they made the wrong decision and de la hoya was very very lucky that day but in comparison he would've beat pacquiao . Interesting though, is that Whitaker himself rates Pacquiao as the best boxer now in the world.

  • Si tuviera una máquina del tiempo, reuniría a estos genios y me gustaría ver estas peleas: Pernell Whitaker vs. Henry Armstrong; Rocky Marciano vs. Jack Johnson; Harry Greb vs. Carlos Monzón; Ray "Sugar" Robinson vs. Roberto Durán; Joe Louis vs. Muhammad Ali; Benny Leonard vs. Sandy Saddler; Willie Pep vs. Oscar De La Hoya; Kid Gavilán vs. Manny Pacquiao; Ezzard Charles vs. Michael Spinks; Archie Moore vs. Thomas Hearns; Ray "Sugar"Leonard vs. Julio César Chávez.

  • @rbrtdornel A true boxing fan. Not a new age Manny dick-rider who knows nothing about the science

  • Si me dijeran que hay un clon que es una mezcla de los genes de Muhammad Ali y Nicollino Loche, pensaría que es este tipo. ¡Con razón en la lista de The Ring está en el puesto 10!

  • AHAHAHAHA the guy in the crowd that stands up at 2:34

  • Comment removed

  • Legend. Top 10 all time in my opinion. he was never truly beaten until the trinidad fight ( when he was past his prime)

oh and why are people talking about pacquiao on this video. well since u all like to mention him i'll say this: that fool fights damaged goods coming off losses. sweet pea would destroy him with his superior boxing skills. who is the last opponent pacquiao fought who could actually box since the marquez fight? and we all know marquez really won those two fights.

  • @On3Thought...For the most part, you have a point. I believe, nonetheless, that the totality of Whitaker's defensive skills slightly outweigh that of Floyd's. Whitaker dodges very well-thus avoiding the contact altogether, whereas Floyd is great at basically protecting his body thus hindering clean shots. Often his opponent works Floyd's arms and gloves pretty good, or are forced to just hold on to his arm and bang the opposite side of his body. His defense strategy frustrates some fighters.

  • who is the guy in red shorts at 3:18

  • @samiullah0001 thats de la hoya bud

  • Whitaker (taker of witts)has by far the best defense the boxing world has seen!!!

  • @eosaph123 Whitaker counters less then Floyd. He dodged punches but rarely countered.

  • @On3Thought he counters a lot! look at his lil step backs. half step back then counter. pull back then counter. he is a master!

  • mcgirt was lightning fast and p made him look slow

  • Fuck fast jabs!

  • tooooooooo fast!!!!!

  • Great upload. He was fantastic. Master of distancing and defense. This is why I watch combat sports to see skills. To be amazed by ability and shown things I cant do. Big up Sweet Pea

  • This why boxing is and always will be the greatest combat sport in the world.

  • @newsense87 no u fail

  • HiM and FLOYD!!! = SAME PERSON

  • @TyeDye07 naa pernell fought eveery opponent given to him.

  • @makpak lol floyd too,. bitchass pacman shoulda took the blood test just like shane mosely did!!!!!

  • i dont care wut nobody say he is da best boxer ever

  • Wow, people really think Mayweather has the best defense of all time? They're either delusional or haven't seen Pernell fight.

  • 2:33 guy in the background wishes he could be like pernell

  • Anyone want the cotto or martinez fight pm me

  • Only 2 fights he ever lost, IMO, were his last 2 (Trinidad & Bojorquez)

The reason why I love Sweet Pea and not Floyd Mayweather because Pernell fought everyone out there and made no excuses.

IMO, pretty much all of Floyd's career since he moved up from lightweight has been hand picked. He's a great fighter, but doesn't have nearly the resume' that Whitaker has.

  • @azumah

But you forget a lot of fighters didn't want a fight with Mayweather either.

Cotto was supposed to fight Mayweather after Gatti and Mosley moved up in weight when Mayweather called him out.

Mayweather also wanted to fight Kostya Tszyu but that didn't happen. Pernell was around when a lot of better fightrs were around. Forgive my spelling my keyboard is acting up.

  • @adxgr0undzer0 That's true. The thing is that Whitaker had this problem, too. It took him five years of professional fighting for him to even get a title shot. When Chavez wanted nothing to do with him @ 140, he promptly went up to 147 and fought the best welterweight in the world, Buddy Mcgirt.

When those guys refused to fight Mayweather, he took a step down and fought Carlos Baldomir. He's great without a doubt. He'll just never measure up to Pernell, IMO.

  • Fucking true! Thank you. Finally somebody that knows what their talking about.

  • pac would have wanted him to fight at 139 lbs or some type of bullshit.

  • ALL TIME GREAT !

  • 3:57 is really quite amazing. That is just unreal.

  • matrix lol =)

  • This guy is the shit holy fuck thats how its done

  • Never seen a fighter like Whitaker!!! I would have loved to see Pacquiao vs SweatPea at 147lbs

  • @iljn1988 I totally Agree with you!! Whitaker was a special boxer! Mayweather is an amazing defensive fighter but he doesnt have Whitaker style! were he drops his hands down right in front of his opponent, and just dodge punches left and right!

  • @iljn1988 Unless pac manages a ko that is

  • @iljn1988 you have good facts whitaker is my fav boxer in all but i dont think it would be an easy UD for him whitaker has never faced a guy like manny,so i think It will be a split in his favor, plus manny could still get a knockdown,so my prediction would be a draw

  • @iljn1988 A past prime Erik Morales outboxed Pacquiao. Pernell is a pure ATG boxer, what do you think will happen?

  • @iljn1988 You are dead wrong, mate.. Styles make fights. Pac's superior hand speed, footwork and work rate will eventually catch Sweet Pea. A prime Pacquiao will catch Pernell like a fruit fly getting trap by a net.

  • @GreatestHooligan, syles make fights, yes - which makes it even more baffling that you pick Pacquiao to win. Pacquiao has had nightmares against fighters with similar counter-punching ability to Whitaker, whereas Whitaker was at his best against fighters similar to Pacquiao? Superior foot work? Dear me, not sure which Pacquiao you've been watching. Can only guess you've been following the sport for a year or so and buy in to the hype around Pacquiao.

  • @iljn1988 I mentioned a "prime" Pacquiao, not the Pacquiao that fought JMM many years ago. If you ever notice that this video, most opponents of Pernel are slow. It's a simple equation that a faster hand strike lands quicker than body or head reflex.

I can only envision Whitaker running the whole 12 rounds and barely potshotting Pacquiao.

When I mentioned footwork, it's Pac's ability to move around and propel himself laterally or back&forth. That alone , he could chase Pernell in no time

  • @MidnightrambIer3760 sorry buddy i love pacman too but you most have just started watching boxing just because of pacman there is no way pacuiao would be able to chase him down no fighter ever in the history of the sport has had better defense than sweat pea.

  • @iljn1988 excellent reply!!

  • @iljn1988 whitaker is like a combination of manny and floyd... all time great

  • @iljn1988 Oh please, don't even think of comparing Mayweather and Whitaker

  • @marinlille Haha....... Pussyweather will never become half the fighter Whitaker was.

  • @knicksown427 PussyWeather? Seriously? are you like 10?

  • @iljn1988 I concur

  • youtube.com/watch?v=quAvMC5DZPo watch and enjoy!

  • seriously, i think sweet pea is amazing, but when people talk about him and sompare him to people its within the last 30 years, i mean does anybody really know any boxing history pre 1960s??? Willie pep AND sweet pea are the greatest defensive boxers of all time, just all of you look up willie pep if you dont know who he is and see what people have to say about him...

  • pernell could dodge a bullet if he wanted

  • @b3t01986 If he wanted? wtf, why would he not want to dodge a bullet? xD

  • @b3t01986 the matrix was loosely based on pernell whitaker's style...

  • @b3t01986 im sure he did lol

  • I dont care what anyone else says...no boxer has ever had the skills that Sweet Pea had. Not Floyd, not Ali, not sugar. Pernell is easily in the top 5 greatest boxers of all time

  • @ShydeTG Lol. ur kidding right...? Lmaos whos ur number 1 Margarito? bahaha

  • @ShydeTG WILLIE PEP!!!!

  • Just amazing!

  • Easily one of the best Philly Shells in the sport of boxing.

  • nobody cant mess with pernell whitaker today...not even back then.

  • i would love to see him fight in this era. see how floyd and pac would do against him

  • Insane!

  • Simply awesome <3

  • Mayweather Jr is just a southpaw version of Whitaker, but not as flashy and cool.

  • How does Sweet Pea have such a bad KO record? he looks like he hits hard as hell

  • @makunouchi3 thats one of the draw backs of being technically sound. you don't over commit to your shot because your always thinking of defense

  • @truBoxingfan THEM FAGGOT LlKE YOU ALWAYS THlNKlNG OF DEFENSE. FAG
