Anything that can be reproduced by achieving reproductive energy, that reproduces with variation, and is selected by specific criteria, undergoes evolution. Products (organisms) are reproduced, are selected by consumers (nature) which determines which ones make revenue/profit (food/energy/mates) The next generation, which a majority of are reproduction of the fittest products (organisms), are reproduced with variations and begin a new selection process. It never ends. Capitalism is Evolution.
Provided the speculators are not engaging in fraudulent behaviour(e.g. naked short sales) they are useful.
When speculators make the correct bet they make a profit and provide stability and liquidity in the market.
E.g. if speculators believe wheat will become more scarce next year, they spur farmers to plant more wheat and somewhat reduce present wheat consumption by bidding up the price of wheat futures.
Free market capitalism FTW!
