Awesome video man. I totally agree with you, who cares if you have perfect christmas party if the people that work for you are screw ups, I would rather have honest people like you that will power to test themselves and try new things and bring what knowledge you have to the table. God bless you man
So true I'm going for my HVAC and I'm Hispanic my cousin does it but it's sad how society is they don't want any Hispanics and blacks in people's homes it's fucked up but true
I been searching YouTube to get a lil knowledge of the hvac field so when I go to the interview I can say I kno a lil something hoping that it will help with me being black
I'm a black male and I have an interview for an hvac apprenticeship in nj I pray to god that I can get in there I'm 25 when I took the test it was only 4 blacks including me so I'll let you guys know what happen
A man was working at a gas station. He asked me if the company I worked for was hiring. Then he told me he was ICE Certified for Heat Pumps and Gas Furnace. Then I asked him where he was from and he said the middle east.I always ask where exactly because I like to hear details.I'm curious with no prejudice what so ever.He gets quiet and says Iraq.I was surprised and welcomed him.I gave him a business card.He wasn't hired.I'm only a tech, I thought that was an opportunity to open eyes.
I say start your own company, you can I believe in you and then you should hire a lot of good white and black females. Then I will say hey this man really means what he believes. Good look to you all.
Your really not a minority my friend because you are a man. NO! stop and think about that. I am a white female so please dont talk about black and white because now I will soon be a minority not just because I am a female but because I am white. You will get a job before I do my friend. You seem to feel you are the lowest person on the pole to get a job your not we female's are to you cant own it.
yeah. i went through all that schooling made top grades n all. only to find out i cant get hired because i got a record for something that happened over 10 years ago. im not crying, but d shit sucks
kudos, i worked with black men in Florida when i lived there, guys were awesome techs and had good records, however, the White American males had drinking habits and were not dressed the best. Your past affects the present and future in job hiring. To the men with the desire to learn a trade and further your life, keep on pushing the goals button. Also avoid drugs period, don't smoke that weed and drink that drink, or you will be back at square one ! this is true for all races....one
You show me a black man/kid with his priorities in line, dedicated, caring, courteous, punctual, determined that is willing to start at the bottom and work his or her way up. I'll show you a man with a good career ahead of him. BTW here, in DC there are loads of black fire fighters and EMTs. As for the Irish and goons in NYC. They are just following in their fathers foot steps, don't turn tradition in to racist remarks. That in itself is racist.
the simple fact is, this is a segregated nation. Neither black or white want to mingle in life styles. I've tried, I was engaged to a gogo dancer from DC. I got my face and head cracked open twice just for being with her and in a "black" club. I've lived it... for years. We loved each other and I couldn't be with her because she was scared for my life. People who create stereotypes and fill the prisons are less likely to be hired by a guy with his lively hood on the line.
it's the horror stories that people hear about inner city blacks and black people on the cuff of inner city, or just black dudes that want to portray that they are hard that keep guys who own their own businesses at bay. If you owned your own business as a black man would you hire some redneck with missing teeth and yee haw tattooed on his arm? Well... why not? are you racist? you must be if you hire a black man who is less qualified. its a 2 way street buddy.
well the others, drag ass kids and dads that wre more concerned about walking with swagger, rolling blunts, complaining, showing up late, getting flats, forgetting where the job site is, cell phones not working. I'm not denying that there is fascism and bigots in hvac, it's every where. On both sides dude. Not just whites. how many news stories have we seen about rape, killing, drugs, welfare, abandon children from the inner city. Can white people walk thru with out being harassed or worse?
this is bull shit dude. My dad has taught HVAC at several community colleges and he said only a handful of black people came thru the doors over 30 years. Lets not kid ourselves here, T.V. hip hop, pop, rock, music teach kids and young adults that working for a living is not cool or it's for nerds and chumps. you can't be fashionable doing hvac. I've also worked with a few black kids from inner city, 2 of them were awesome, they just wanted to get out, provide for their family's. the others....
Sounds to me like "Chubs" here has a real hidden attitude about Whites cause this chump's "Mission" is to sell NIGGER PROPAGANDA, I'LL SAY IT LIKE "TRULY" IS GODDAMNIT!'. Most of them "factual track record of minorities obvious", want to come on the clock easy, and clock out easy, NO work, NO authority, NO WHITEY BOSS!, just TALK SHIT all day and never really do any labor much less the INTELLECT required to keep from goofing the JOB or hurt! ALOT of "Shuck & Jive" "Coolbreeze" attitude. LAZY!
I am a universal certified African American HVAC tech. And as a Christian I must confess a truth that I personally witnessed myself. Upon my enrollment at RETS hvac school in 1994 I discovered that in a class of 30, about 5 of us were black, 1 was an Arab, and the rest were white. But then it got worse! By the time we graduated their was about 3 blacks left in the class although a few white guys dropped out 2. The sad truth? We want the job without the training. It's our fault bro. Sorry...
Stop with this defeatist attitude. If I had my own company, I'd hire the most able guy and I wouldn't care what color he is. When things get tough for blacks they seem to give up and blame it on racism. Suck it up, Buttercup!
sorry bro its sad but it will never change this world is what it is black people should get the same chance. yes there are not to many that want to attempt hvac its challenging so they must get intimitaded or something.
my brother im a epa license black tech for 17years i troubleshoot and repair ice machines,1-9 ton rooftop units, walkins, freezers, and more i own my company
all this black cant talk is stupid you have to go get it and just do it,as for this doctor
guy hes an gay idiot and know little about hvac system he need attention dont waste your time
its the training to not just the hiring train me i will make my own job i will learn it on my own to i went to north american trade school for hvac the police and teachers was like doing some black op shit they run owl tags while we in school so i sayed fuck it im real nigga i will do it on my own fuck them they dont want us in i dont care i will take that shit then i will train us and hire us and whites and etc im no races they will see me
I recently enrolled in a HVAC training school run by the local public school system and was surprised to learn that this school has existed for more than 30 years. I graduated from this same school system in the 80's and never heard about it, I only learned about it when I went to Everest institute to enroll and learned it would cost me more than 20K to earn a certificate. 20K, for a certificate and no guarantee of job placement. I just don't think there's enough information around. Racist? No.
Man Move to Ga. Theres 50/50 combo around here! Haha Ive tought allot of black guys on HVAC And they have got it just as fast as the white guys.So really theres no bunch of BS to it!
Very great video response to the question. I agree with you 100 percent. I have been in the trade over 17 years and have seen only one black HVAC tech. I live and work in S. Texas where I (white) are somewhat a minority, however, the racial barrier between white and hispanic is almost non-exisent in the HVAC industry here. We all work together, why can't it be like that everywhere???
Iam from chicago and i been out of hvac school for three years and i still havnt found a job in this field! i just give up they dont wanna hire any blacks!
@cleotha1 Change your frame of mind! Get out there and do what you know. There are plenty of people who need HVAC work and don't want to spend the dollars established HVAC companies charge. Wishing you all the best...
you pass the test, and get the license, go get the guages and a container of freon, work for the whole monty, don t look for a white master, become responsible for yourself, don t blame the world
I live in birmingham al, rised in cullman county and I would take the black guy who got me to take my hvac test over any one i have had to do my work thanks sam for your good info and honest work its 2011 people dont profile as they did when my folks was growing up good luck guys
also if your thinking of going union take the time to really research it. In chicago the union is for the contractor NOT for the hvac technician. I have friends that didnt go union and they have their own companies now. i went union 15 years ago and im still not a journeyman while others who have 5 years experience are journeyman and guess what they are all white.
I have been in the hvac technician for over 15 years. I can tell you that I have been the only non white person working in all of the 6 companies i have worked for in the past 15 years. I also am the last one hired and the first one laid off. What the us needs is for minorities to start up some hvac companies and through better service and hard work push out the old guard companies. lord knows that they have thrived for centuries.
Iam a white male, and some of my best friends / and best guys and girls at my work are black men and weman. the only person stopping you is you go get yours.
i can see why this topic is getting a lot of attention. i am a black HVAC Technician in one of the most segerated citys in the nation. CHICAGO. dont get me wrong everyone that wants to do this kind of work can with some training and be good at this trade. on the other hand, if you cant find a HVAC job create your hvac job and get some experance while you wait for your job to come around.
Good points prizm. You seem like a stand up guy who doesn't play the victim. I think the problem starts at home. Too many young people (doesn't matter what color) are growing up believing that working a physically demanding job is below an office job. I don't think it's racial at all, it's just the younger generation.
Thruth from what I can tell is that hardly anybody these days wants to become a service man whether its electrician,plumbers,HVAC/R,welders,ETC... To say that the color of your skin is the reason is BS. Its the simple plain fact that most people that are brought up in the US want to be stars and doctors or nurses or something that seems like it cant be replaced. No body wants to go in a 120* attic or crawl under houses. The country is being ruint on the fact that nobody "WANTS" to work HARD
Another reason for very little minority techs out there is alot of em aint convienced they will be allowed to succeed, in order to succeed you need the support of the leadership of the company you work for, to increase in skill and ability u need training, opportunity to perfect your craft thru being allowed to perform in meaningful work situations, no trust.
@androslive-People like you are exactly why the government needs to enforce affirmative action, the job of the government is to do for the people what they cannnot do for themselves.....seeing past color of skin is what the mainstream americans CANNOT do for themselves, again we still need affirmative action...we as a nation are still not there....what say you?
You all need to talk to the other ninety percent of your race perfectly content on ruining the general racial profile that causes honest successful homeowners, employers, and or supervisors to think your all the same. Sorry that's just the way it is!!
Ive been in the field for about ten years and i can tell u from general observation that there are way more black people ruining the overall racial profile for hardworking guys like you and the others trying to make it in an honest career. Why is it that you can go to any city, and go to MLK Jr. Street and buy any kind of dope there is on earth?
what is the point in going into training when you know people are going to be there who just want to proof that you don't have what it takes. Everybody in education need full support of their colleagues and the institution likewise, education should not have to be a gauntlet or a place where you are afraid to ask the teacher some question cos other students gonna feel like you are behind n all.
Young people these days just don't wanna work, they walk around with their pants hangin off their asses and hat on sideways thinking they are rap stars or gangsters. They dont wanna work !!! they don't wanna go to school...REASON #1 black people are not interested in working in this field. REASON #2 Like you said the company has to hire the best man for the job, a man who is educated, speaks good english, has formal training. Thanks to affirmative action, now the best man doesn't get the job
anyways the white people have no rights to be commenting about , why so few black technicians , just shut the fuck up , and watch the minorities fill the space left by whites. ask anyboby and the hardest and best workers are hispanics , many anglos are lazzzzzzzzzy , just ask anybody . is a fact.
I am a Black technican with 15 years in the buisness and it really does deal a major blow when you work for a company and regardless to how good you are and what you know or ironically how good numbers you produce the black technician if he is lucky to be a technician will not be viewed higher than the rookie white technician most times we will be given the less sales leads, less hours send us to all the hood calls that the other techs are afraid to do , Dial one's tv ad doesnt help either, lol

great point, i want to thank you for your courage because people are afraid to deal with what is really going in America. Until we as American realize we need each other will continue trhese same paths. It is very shameful being in a country that only when we goto WAR, then we are considered Shame on America......
thanks 4 the response prizms100 but twin45 must be sell uncle tom muthafuck cuz i know i have a 3.2gpa and finishing school and cant get a chance when there is white boys that are no better than I who have gotten them and this is a industry with a 22% growth rate but its not about race get the fuck outta here
Hey I know i was the best plumbing mechanic on the job and had the most experience, and I got laid off twice over a dude who had 2 years in the field and was shooting heroin in the parking lot. He also fucked up everything he touched. I see this a lot in companies. They get rid of the good ones and keep the idiots, some who make more. Basically I don't swing on the nut sack of my foreman, and I speak my mind and they dont like that. The ass kissers always keep their jobs. It's fucked up.
@prizm100, will post how many Black Americans won in the last election in a day or so, gotta go get the info.. but I think that a large number of the Black Americans actually won their seats/districts....God Bless you!
@prizm100, cont. from last post,....I personally really like Lt. Col Alan West, he won in Fl. and is an EXTREMELY well spoken man. If he would run for President, I would DEFINITELY vote for him, I am a white American & see what you see in the biz world, so I would like to say to you Prizm. DON'T EVER GIVE UP!!, with your attitude toward bettering yourself and not letting the current biz problems get to you, I have no doubt you WILL make it and go far, gotta go to work, will post winners info
@prizm100 Well spoken, a true American and in my opinion, by your attitude and articulation, a Christian. (if not, no offense). And your reference to a very good reason 'why' is a very good observation, but it is slowly changing, just not fast enough unfortunately. a note of interest, in the nov. 2011 elections there were 36 or 63 (36 i think) Black Americans who were running for political office, I am not sure how many won, (will check & post here later) see next comment for the rest...
In the Washington DC area you'll see a lot of Black and Asian techs, they're working for unions which do not discriminate like the private sector which generally hires family, like ethnicity because thats their right and their preference. To get in the trade you'll have to relocate to a state which has trade unions Local 602, Local 99 in Washington DC takes all appplicant, requires 4 yrs of schooling and you'll be working in the trade as you go to school Good luck, but location is everything
VERY GOOD SPEECH, OUTSTANDING AND WELL DONE . I AM WILLING TO CALL THIS # guy .yes he a number who need to do this reasch first comment black been a HVAC .
This is a good video. In the upstate of South Carolina, as a Black Man Who Had a Associate in HVAC-R and two three years as a Technician. I also work for myself, and a Company. I have tryed to get a job and they would pick a white person with less time, experienced and skill for the job. It is a race thing, but it will never stop me.
Check out vatterott! They will train everyone AND PAY for it. I go there, been going there for over a year. Most of the people training for HVAC are black! get this; they give excess loan money as you go, to pay for your living expenses.
It has nothing to do with skin color at all. this dude is a moron if you are the best tech for the job you get it. If you are lazy you won't. i am a black man and i have been with the same company for 15 yrs and i was the best qualified for the job it is not a race thing. You need to stop filling people's head with nonsense. I am actually dumber listening to you.
@vtwin45 Sorry vtwin45, but In America it's always about race, and let me add class. You should learn how to respond in a more diplomatic way and maybe people will hear you.
Nobody in the trade I have ever met gives a rats ass about skin color.
Getting a job after school is tough. It's cold, hot, dirty, bad hours. It's constant training. It's working by yourself. It's learning on your own. If you can fix or install anything in this trade you can get a job. If you can't, you either need to find a different teacher or a different occupation.
There could be more black HVAC Techs. But thats up to them.
Few students per class actually end up working in the trade.
Like I stated to a couple people. If you feel you not getting a fair shot for a job in HVAC do what I did.Work on your own HVAC system. then go to your neighbors and talk to them. tell them for $40 to $80 you would do a Preventative Maintenance check on their system. Word of mouth goes a long way. i worked with other companies for almost 10 years when i finally said why should the owner get everything and I only get $100 per job. I currently have 3 full time employees in my second year as owner

@tupacamaru2828 A sociological minority is not necessarily a numerical minority — it may include any group that is subnormal with respect to a dominant group in terms of social status, education, employment, wealth and political power.
@Petroswulf look dude what ever your defenitions from a text lead you to write this, it dont even fit into the discusion, the dr zarkloff video is very racist degrating any other human that is not white like him, regarless of any misundertanding , should be acknowledge that the video is racist against any other hvac technician, but for me this is not true cause in my school mos t of the students are not white, but hispanics and africans, end of story.
@tupacamaru2828 Your a fucking douche. He was asking why Blacks weren't in the field. You responded calling him racist, as does everyone now a days. Maybe he was generally fucking curious. I swear to god you cannot say the word "black" without someone lynching you. How about this. Stop being a sensitive whining bitch, and actually listen to the fucking question.
its not an issue of who does the hireing, its what trade u learn. I go to school for hvac and their are no black students in my class and their are plenty of black students in my school
I got into the field back in the 80's part time while active duty Army. Back then I could go to a hardware store and buy freon and parts i needed. The EPA said back in the 90's we have to regulate the buying of freon. Then companies said " You have to be qualified" We need you to go to a votech school. I got my Universal Core license back in 1993. i went to a community college back in 2003 and graduated to have a piece of paper proving stuff I already knew before I spent $10,000!
@RANGER96SSG BLACKS AND HISPANIC ARE STILL MINORITIES, LOOK AT POPULATION DUMM ASS, WHITES ARE A MINORITY IN MY COUNTRY AND WILL NEVER WILL BE CONSIDER SUBNORMAL, NOT NORMAL, NO WAY , DONT SAY ESPECIALLY IF YOUR MEXICAN""" DUMB ASS.
STOP!!! K,, if your black,, especially if your Mexican or of descent,, stop calling yourself minorities,, you are not,, do not label yourself,, wtf are you thinking when you categorize yourself as such,, you are basically saying you are subnormal,, are you?
im from the south mississippi.ive been hvac cert. from ms gulf coast comm college since 2008 and not one company gave me an oppertun yet,but ive still been studying on my own..so hopefully ill get a chance one day.. the thing is i dont have any hands on exper..but how can i when not given a chance?
@lowkeyization What you ought to do is look and work on your very own unit. there are things you can do to your very own Ac,heat pump, air handler, or furnace. Do a preventative maintenance check on it. Learn the parts. When you do your own go to friends and families homes and ask them to do theirs for $40 or $50. With that money you made go buy yourself some gauges( if you don't have any) and a jug of R-22. This is how I started and now I own my own company.

I UNDERSTAND DESCRIMINATION HAPPEN IN USA BUT THAT WAS NOT MY COMMENT ABOUT , IT IS ABOUT YOU SAYING TO THIS COLOR MAN THAT IT DOES NOT MATTER IF YOUR GREEN OR ORANGE SO GO TO AUSTRALIA. NO WAY , RACISM IS STILL THERE SO DONOT RECOMEND THIS MAN TO TRAVEL OVER TO THIS FAR COUNTRY AUSTRALIA . PROBLABY WOULD GET MISTAKEN BY A ABORIGINI NATIVE . SMART ANSWER PLEASE
This is a real problem. The way I see it, the African American should no longer be considered a "minority" anymore, its getting old. Some African Americans in the past came up with very practical and innovative ideas. Some of those ideas even save lives such as open heart surgery and pulmonary bypass. The traffic light and electric clothes dryer and turn signals. The blacks has made their mark in the world and deserve to be out of minority status in America. And I'm white.
Wow! I can feel the Hate pooring out of my little speakers.-The American flag does not pop out of my mouth when I speak --but check it out.I have been doing HVAC for 25+ years here on the West Coast.I have worked with alot of People thru the years- Black-White-Asian-Russian-You name-it. Am White as Rice-Proud of it --Your Black-proud of it "Our blood is the same"-I am now a HVAC Instructure.
God helped me to get some HVAC skill-not spelling HA!-HA!,Now he has given me a chance to pass it on.
be aware that thismr zarkloff ( bozzo the clowjn) he will block you from putting any reponse about his video that he dont like , I beleive you are right cus , whites who have a education dont want color people to be better than them . anyways this man is about 55 years old and he will be not be inthe field in the near future so the problem will be eliminate by its own weight , meaning time years, please to any hvac student ,study very hard soo we wont think like this racist prik ZARKLOFF
I'm sorry that I hadn't seen this video sooner. Thank you very much for digging deep into your feelings and expressing them in your video. You are so right. I live in Florida where maybe one percent of all HVAC technicians are black. Maybe ten percent are Hispanic. Most minorities in the HVAC trade have their own business. I'm not sure about the numbers in other states. Some of the posters in my video have said that the percentage is much higher in the northern states. I just don't see it.
IM A HVAC STUDENT almost 90% in my school are african american , and we are all going for a hvac associate degree in applied science and some of us aspire to get a bachelor too I beleive DR ZARKLOFF BELEIVES THIS BECAUSE HE IS RACIST DEEP DOWN INSIDE . DONT LIKE HISPANIC OR AFRICAN AMERICANS PERIOD, IM HISPANIC BY THE WAY AND IM PROUD TO SAY IM THE MINORITY IN MY SCHOOL ,SOON THERE WILL BE SO MANY HVAC TECHNICIANS OF COLOR
lol at all these fools making pep talk commentary. fuck hvac.
and to the owner in florida fuck off you moron and learn how to spell endeavor before criticizing anothers syntax and articulation.
answer to the question is Who gives a fuck. its every man for himself. i cant get a job @ LAPD because i am white, for example. stupid poor me issue, life sucks and we are stuck here breathing the fumes.
yawn,,,stop being black people, and just be people, and all your problems will be over. Think for your self and leave the race pimps (Al and Jessie) behind, and I'll be right beside you. Do you really think white folk sit around and think about being white? Na, we have better things top do with our time. Man up!!
I just want to say that you are a very well spoken person, I can see that you speak from your heart! God Bless I hope you find your dream job, the HVAC industry needs smart well spoken people just like you!!! I was taught never to look at the color of a person's skin because you won't be able to see the person for who they are.
to the person making this video, you talk clearly and intelligently unlike other idiots, good luck in your indeavor, keep studying and improve your options in life ,from a HVAC owner in florida
When I say "works one like they are making $100,000, but only pays them 40 grand" I mean even white techs....HVAC&R is a tuff gig....very tuff gig for the money, especially for many companies since the economic meltdown.
Greatest trade ever, I love it, but there's no real respect or high pay for most employees, unless you're content with very hard, almost scientific work, with medium pay. The best money would be owning an HVAC&R contracting business with several employees in an economically vibrant area. Plumbers make about the same or more, with much less technical and, at times, dangerous work.....I say go for it however
The trade not only takes a very high degree of knowledge, but also extreme physical demands, and pay is not really commensurate to skill level required and expected duties one encounters as a field tech, so many with the vast knowledge and natural ability, find less demanding careers. HVAC&R is a life choice made for the extreme challenge, injury is also common. Black people may actually be TO smart to fall for a trade that works one like they are making $100,000, but only pays them 40 grand.
prizms100 hey brotha you made some good points... i've been in the HVAC/R career field since i was 19 i'm 24 now all my HVAC/R training has come from the Air Force reserves. I've came across more negative vibes when coming into a customers house to troubleshoot a unit most of the customers are shocked to even see a young Black male to even be doing this line of work but once they have seen i'm good in my trade , they will ask more questions about the unit.
Maybe's it just me, but shouldn't that be the view of all hiring people?
I guess I'm just some wierd ass dude who feels that the last thing to be considered should be race. I'd rather flip a coin infront of two different race dudes to choose my candidate fairly, rather than select based on anything other than ability.
Awesome video man. I totally agree with you, who cares if you have perfect christmas party if the people that work for you are screw ups, I would rather have honest people like you that will power to test themselves and try new things and bring what knowledge you have to the table. God bless you man

shaketheearthband 3 months ago
the simple fact is, this is a segregated nation. Neither black or white want to mingle in life styles. I've tried, I was engaged to a gogo dancer from DC. I got my face and head cracked open twice just for being with her and in a "black" club. I've lived it... for years. We loved each other and I couldn't be with her because she was scared for my life. People who create stereotypes and fill the prisons are less likely to be hired by a guy with his lively hood on the line.
shaketheearthband 3 months ago
it's the horror stories that people hear about inner city blacks and black people on the cuff of inner city, or just black dudes that want to portray that they are hard that keep guys who own their own businesses at bay. If you owned your own business as a black man would you hire some redneck with missing teeth and yee haw tattooed on his arm? Well... why not? are you racist? you must be if you hire a black man who is less qualified. its a 2 way street buddy.
shaketheearthband 3 months ago
well the others, drag ass kids and dads that wre more concerned about walking with swagger, rolling blunts, complaining, showing up late, getting flats, forgetting where the job site is, cell phones not working. I'm not denying that there is fascism and bigots in hvac, it's every where. On both sides dude. Not just whites. how many news stories have we seen about rape, killing, drugs, welfare, abandon children from the inner city. Can white people walk thru with out being harassed or worse?
shaketheearthband 3 months ago
this is bull shit dude.

Sorry...
Reggieregify 3 months ago
Stop with this defeatist attitude. If I had my own company, I'd hire the most able guy and I wouldn't care what color he is. When things get tough for blacks they seem to give up and blame it on racism. Suck it up, Buttercup!

sorry bro its sad but it will never change this world is what it is black people should get the same chance. yes there are not to many that want to attempt hvac its challenging so they must get intimitaded or something.

Racist? No.

We all work together, why can't it be like that everywhere???

also if your thinking of going union take the time to really research it. In chicago the union is for the contractor NOT for the hvac technician. I have friends that didnt go union and they have their own companies now. i went union 15 years ago and im still not a journeyman while others who have 5 years experience are journeyman and guess what they are all white.
laylow597 6 months ago
I have been in the hvac technician for over 15 years. I can tell you that I have been the only non white person working in all of the 6 companies i have worked for in the past 15 years. I also am the last one hired and the first one laid off. What the us needs is for minorities to start up some hvac companies and through better service and hard work push out the old guard companies. lord knows that they have thrived for centuries.

Good points prizm. You seem like a stand up guy who doesn't play the victim. I think the problem starts at home. Too many young people (doesn't matter what color) are growing up believing that working a physically demanding job is below an office job. I don't think it's racial at all, it's just the younger generation.
wb6162 7 months ago
Thruth from what I can tell is that hardly anybody these days wants to become a service man whether its electrician,plumbers,HVAC/R,welders,ETC... To say that the color of your skin is the reason is BS. Its the simple plain fact that most people that are brought up in the US want to be stars and doctors or nurses or something that seems like it cant be replaced. No body wants to go in a 120* attic or crawl under houses. The country is being ruint on the fact that nobody "WANTS" to work HARD

Another reason for very little minority techs out there is alot of em aint convienced they will be allowed to succeed, in order to succeed you need the support of the leadership of the company you work for, to increase in skill and ability u need training, opportunity to perfect your craft thru being allowed to perform in meaningful work situations, no trust.
dlocklear38 8 months ago
@androslive-People like you are exactly why the government needs to enforce affirmative action, the job of the government is to do for the people what they cannnot do for themselves.....seeing past color of skin is what the mainstream americans CANNOT do for themselves, again we still need affirmative action...we as a nation are still not there....what say you?
dlocklear38 8 months ago
You all need to talk to the other ninety percent of your race perfectly content on ruining the general racial profile that causes honest successful homeowners, employers, and or supervisors to think your all the same. Sorry that's just the way it is!!
androslive 8 months ago
Ive been in the field for about ten years and i can tell u from general observation that there are way more black people ruining the overall racial profile for hardworking guys like you and the others trying to make it in an honest career. Why is it that you can go to any city, and go to MLK Jr. Street and buy any kind of dope there is on earth?
androslive 8 months ago
what is the point in going into training when you know people are going to be there who just want to proof that you don't have what it takes. Everybody in education need full support of their colleagues and the institution likewise, education should not have to be a gauntlet or a place where you are afraid to ask the teacher some question cos other students gonna feel like you are behind n all.
debayzee 9 months ago
Young people these days just don't wanna work, they walk around with their pants hangin off their asses and hat on sideways thinking they are rap stars or gangsters. They dont wanna work !!! they don't wanna go to school...REASON #1 black people are not interested in working in this field. REASON #2 Like you said the company has to hire the best man for the job, a man who is educated, speaks good english, has formal training. Thanks to affirmative action, now the best man doesn't get the job
kingofyal1 9 months ago
anyways the white people have no rights to be commenting about , why so few black technicians , just shut the fuck up , and watch the minorities fill the space left by whites. ask anyboby and the hardest and best workers are hispanics , many anglos are lazzzzzzzzzy , just ask anybody . is a fact.

You need to stop filling people's head with nonsense. I am actually dumber listening to you.

@vtwin45 Sorry vtwin45, but In America it's always about race, and let me add class. You should learn how to respond in a more diplomatic way and maybe people will hear you.
civilrights22 11 months ago

When I say "works one like they are making $100,000, but only pays them 40 grand" I mean even white techs....HVAC&R is a tuff gig....very tuff gig for the money, especially for many companies since the economic meltdown.
tubeadelic 1 year ago
This has been flagged as spam show
Greatest trade ever, I love it, but there's no real respect or high pay for most employees, unless you're content with very hard, almost scientific work, with medium pay. The best money would be owning an HVAC&R contracting business with several employees in an economically vibrant area. Plumbers make about the same or more, with much less technical and, at times, dangerous work.....I say go for it however
tubeadelic 1 year ago
The trade not only takes a very high degree of knowledge, but also extreme physical demands, and pay is not really commensurate to skill level required and expected duties one encounters as a field tech, so many with the vast knowledge and natural ability, find less demanding careers. HVAC&R is a life choice made for the extreme challenge, injury is also common. Black people may actually be TO smart to fall for a trade that works one like they are making $100,000, but only pays them 40 grand.

I guess I'm just some wierd ass dude who feels that the last thing to be considered should be race. I'd rather flip a coin infront of two different race dudes to choose my candidate fairly, rather than select based on anything other than ability.
