  • I thought that guy in the black shirt was Mazur for a moment. I had forgotten about Jamie Edwards.

  • and one more thing...I know Turner made OLP's sound...but first, he was NEVER the band, and second, Steve is so much more proficient, and offers more...in the long run, that would help more in exploring new sounds, which I think a band should do.

They shouldn't stay with the same sound, cuz that's fucking lame...in reality, Turner I think wouldn't be as good in the long run.

    Plus Mazur is younger :P

  • @kennygmang Mmmmmmm, Mazur is alot younger than the rest of the band and inexpericenced.

The problem is, he was already a fan of the band before he joined, I can see the problem there.

Anyway, I think they did do change their sound especially with their 1999 and 2000 albums, but with the last two, they kind of sound to "safe, predictable".

Same with "Gravity" that album is already preictable because there are loads of groups and people in the charts who already sound like that.....

  • @hellohellogone

    Mazur's NOT inexperienced now...

And honestly? Gravty was the only predictable one for me...

  • @kennygmang If you were around in 1998 or 1999 when this band was newer, you would understand - thats not saying you were'nt, but if you were someone who knew about them then, you would understand why so many people go on about them now - the truth is though, people want to hear Our Lady Peace make a rock music again, not a 5 different direction sounding album.

  • @hellohellogone

I first heard them with Spiritual Machines. I was 6 at the time but still, they were not only the first band that I ever heard comin to Canada, but the songs hit me significantly (because it was In Repair and Life in particular, as well as SOT and Innocent eventually).

With that, I still do understand where people come from, but people are fucking ALWAYS like that.

I see it not only in music but in video-games... apparently if you change a bit too much, it's garbage ;S

  • @kennygmang The again maybe I am wrong, maybe its the crap videos they make these days, or the fact that they are becoming more pop than alternative rock, but I miss the whole grunge alternative thing - of course that started to die out about 10 years ago.......its kind of sad, because bands like Our Lady Peace deserve to be heard.......the only way they will be heard again is if they go back to their old sound.

  • @hellohellogone

    - Spiritual Machines? Burn Burn? not even HIPT? Cmaan.

    - I don't see how THL is anything like old OLP stuff... if it's the lyrics, then it's cool and all, but Burn Burn kinda is more old OLP....just pure Cnadian rock sound, but same meaningfull, and still somewhat cryptic lyrics

    - And it's mainly you missing the alternative thing.

  • @kennygmang The only reason I miss it so much is because music today is so lame......Kings of Leon, Killers and all these Pop Rock acts.

There is no new bands that came out in the 2000s thats been any good, mainly because they would'nt get signed these days and no one plays them.

In the 90s, that you seem to of missed, Alternative was the mainstream and live music was huge and people actually bought records then.......I just hope things can be like that again soon.

  • @hellohellogone

    I understand...

but I think that you got the wrong bands that are "shit".

Kings of Leon did go pop/mainstream quite a bit with Only By The Night (my 1st album), but after recently DLing all their past albums, they're ACTUALLY good, and their album (which comes out today btw is really looking good. Have you seen "Radioactive"???

And the Kilers aren't bad cuz they were diff....wait, weren't bad. They're done, don't pick on em haha

    NOw Nickelback...they REALLY suck now

  • @hellohellogone

And no, In Repair isn't my fav. (though it's close)....it's Where Are You...another classic, whether people like the direction of the sound or not.

  • @kennygmang I have to be honest with you here, I don't really like what they have done with their sound, I think Raine Madia solo album was good and reminded me of the old Our Lady Peace.

Personally the reason like many took an interest in them was with Clumsy and the Happiness albums, ever since then they have'nt lived up to what I expect them to do at all.

Their last few albums have been, so predictable - I've heard it all before - the music scene is also the problem..

  • Still prefer their newer stuff (SM-on)...but this is my fav from Naveed easily...wish they could perform this more, evne though it's nearly impossible for Raine today

  • @kennygmang Why can't you just accept that Our Lady Peace changed, and Raine does'nt sing like he used to because he does it deliberatley.

Can you not see that since the Gravity album he sings completley differently.

The whole band changed in 2002, before they were a different band, different producer, different members - thats a different band.

And Raine of course could still sing this live, he can sing anything live, but I doubt the band are planning to go back to their old ways.

  • @hellohellogone

I do accept that with open arms...it's just that so many people are subjective pricks about them today...

Like do people actually want them to sound outdated, or fucking one-dimensional or what?

People can't be subjective like that if one is biased towards 90's music.

Besides...OLP wasn't THAT unique...they were unique, but not like soo great that they should change back. It's not like Naveed didn't sound like every other Grunge album.

  • @kennygmang Its because they were big fans of the band, plus some of the videos they made were very very MTV, just look at the latest one.

I think they are still a good group, but they have taken to long to bring out albums and also them deciding to work with Bob Rock and getting rid of Mike Turner for one album might of been okay, but in the long run they seemed to run into alot of trouble.

  • @hellohellogone

Clumsy...I'd agree...Happiness is good, but I honestly find SM, Burn Burn better....if you're not biased towards 90's sounds and actually appreciate Mazur then you'll see where I'm going

Also, I don't think they tried to be too big except for Gravity (imo not HIPT, but that was a good a;lbum for what olp endured). Even if they didn't, they deserve to
