  • This movie can only be fun if you didn't know the original Japanese movies and you simply enjoy a huge monster movie.

  • I was so disappointed with this film, I wish Toho never gave Tri-Star the rights.

  • terrible quality

  • They are making another Godzilla movie will be out prolly 2013

  • @22soultaker same director as Independence day. That reminds me the same time Godzilla we will have Independence day 2!

  • @22soultaker

The new American Godzilla movie is going to be more like the original Japanese Godzilla and will have nothing to do with the 1998 American Godzilla movie. The movie will be made by Legendary Pictures.

  • @SaiyanRider54

The New American Reboot of Godzilla will be Fucking Awesome!

It's respecting the Japanese Godzilla this time, all his powers, an will fight 1 or more monster's, It will be 1 of the very few movies i will gladly pay to see in both IMAX an 3D

  • @XxComablackxX1937

I can't wait for it either. But too bad it wont come out till 2013 or 2014.

  • thay should make another godzilla movie, example godzilla returns!!

  • honestly, the reason people hate this film is because the design for godzilla had changed. this is where i ask: WHY??? "Zilla" is an awesome monster! obviously not as good as the original, but all the same, you can love them both. i ceartainly do :)

  • CGI was okay.

Bad design of the "Godzilla" is what killed the film.

  • The CGI for the thing sucked. But it was WAY better then the 2000 version...

  • size does matter but that size never existed lol

  • Watch Godzilla backwards. You see a dinosaur rebuild a ruined city, then moonwalk into the ocean.

  • One of the best teaser trailers EVER! I remember seeing it whilst sitting in the cinema lounge, I was 6 at the time, so my parents had a big argument about whether I could see the film. My dad, being the awesome rebel that he is, took me despite my mum saying she didn't want me to go. I still remember standing in line waiting to go in. It's probably these fond memories which explain my soft spot for this movie; it's not perfect, but it's a small yet pivotal point in my childhood :-)

  • yeah i thought the eye was terrifying back in the day. up until now i thought the trailer was way scarier. Shuldve been a sick movie :(

  • holy shit did the old man die?

  • Not a real Godzilla movie, it's size changed constantly, the military caused more damage then monster. We saw his entire fucking foot more then an how does a 200 ft lizard disappear in NY? An Godzilla feeds on nuclear energy not fucking tuna... an for a film with a budget of 130$ million ''Dialog like ''Thats a lot of fish is STUPID''

Biggest rape of an iconic movie character decades. There was nothing more realistic in this movie then the Japanese ones.

  • @XxComablackxX1937 Confession to make. I used to like this movie when I was kid. I watched it again a couple years ago then I hated it.

  • I tough I was seeing a Home Alone trailer at the beggining

  • This was such a bad ass trailer. Too bad the movie didn't live up to it.

  • As a monster movie its alright but as a godzilla movie it sucks big time.

  • I like zilla more than regular Godzilla. Fuck the haters.

  • @nicholas092282 OMG i rember watching when i was 4 i LOVEd it but scaired the shit outa me still i thought it was great

  • I DONT CARE WAT EVER THESE PEOPLE SAY! I SAY the 1990s wa the best time ever of all movies! mostly the final epic moments of SCI-FI! from DIE HARD 3 to the best games and shows like RESIDENT EVIL, SPIDER-MAN 90s series! to the epiuc movies like GODZILLA, INDEPENDENTS DAY!, TERMINATOR 2, BACK TO THE FUtuRE PART 3 fucking 5TH ELEMENT!, PITCH BLACK!, shows like X-MEN!, IRON MAN, and other epic movies like JURASSIC PARK 1 n 2 to MEN IN BLACK were ALL the best to change the 90s! n TITIANIC! nuff said

  • @KeIIinator that's all americans...you are obviously american. how patriotic. nuff said

  • @HiroIndo16 ya...i gess...so wat does that mean if there all american movies? and that im patriotic? lol why, how, is all i ask..why?

  • @KeIIinator yes, that means you didn't watch other countries' movies. you just watch what your country make and what your country dub. and what your country destroy. in this case, a movie.

  • @HiroIndo16 so...i seen the best of wat america did BEFORE they started remaking movies n the 2000s and up???

  • This movie is awesome. Don't compare it to the old godzilla because it is almost completely different.

  • I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this but I can actually take this movie (and this Godzilla) much more seriously than the Japanese version. I can't take the original Toho films seriously (exept for Gojira and Godzilla 1985) No creature of ANY size is going to sit there and let tanks and choppers shoot at it. They gave Godzilla a personality, like he just wants to be left alone (it seems as if the remakes for Kong and Godzilla both try to "animalize" the title monsters).

  • @codzilla12 The problem with the american godzilla was that they treated it just like an animal when godzilla was really a metaphor.

  • The first time I saw this trailer, I thought it was a teaser trailer for a Jaws 5.

  • Watching this is my first memory of going to the theater. I went to see "Titanic" and this teaser was shown before the movie...but I didn't know what it was, I STARTED GETTING SO PISSED!!! I was like "Didn't we enter to see "Titanic"?!?!" (I was only 8 years old)

May I add I was scared with this teaser...cuz I've always been scared of big water masses..and watching a huge wave on a big screen did it for me!!!

  • Great film

  • @MetaphysicsAddict

I thought it was great as well

    Wonderful memories from my childhood

  • The music at the beginning sounds like music from Home Alone and they should have kept the eye scene at the end.

"The only thing you're gonna catch is a cold" lol

  • I actually loved this movie.

  • If I was at 1:47 I would've crapped my pants!!

  • alright im goin to have to agree with u on that one Nicholas092282 they could of at least made a good godzilla movie and at least tryed to capture the icon in Japan alright ill admit the film was a bit off but at least it had some good expolsions and alot of gun firing the actors were good but like in some scenes they over reacted to the baby zillas and well other stuff but had they made a second film then we would have had a good sequel to the 1998 film u see my point

  • so what if the 1998 godzilla is nothing like the original japanese one? its not like its trying that hard, its supposed to be different otherwise it would have been set in japan and done in stop motion or somthing... and lets face it, if you want to see NYC getting pulverised, this film is far better than cloverfield and independance day...

  • first godzilla movie ive ever seen and i loved this one but godzilla japnese still ownes

  • Man, I literally haven't seen a single piece of this film in years until now. The movie is a classic and NYC was the perfect location for it.

  • I enjoy Godzilla, But this movie Raped the name Godzilla for sure. I mean it was a decent fun monster movie but it wasnt a ''Godzilla'' movie just because the title character wasnt in the film

I just remember going this is gonna kick-ass and went to see it opening day. Of course i was alot younger so i was slightly disappointed but meh.

Lets hope ''Legendary Pictures Reboot'' will Capture the real Godzilla and give us what the 1998 film was supposed to be.

  • By the way, I'd like to see you guys bash James Rolfe for having a dislike of the American Godzilla movie.

He did say that Tri-Star raped the name.

  • This movie sucked very hard. but i have to admit the show was a bit better because he had atomic breath, fought monsters, could not lay eggs, and I think imune to missiles. but seriously if they do make a sequal or remake to this movie it will still suck but if they did it right it might be a bit better

  • Thease coperate dickhead who made all thease bad film know a good way to lure us in. Pus this film could of easily been call te Beast of 20,000 fthom not Godzilla. This film is a joke to the real godzilla plus dont by into their othe film such as !0,000BC, The day after tomorrow and 2012 if you do get lured in remeber their past shit films

  • Both are Jews. One is a fag with a black boyfriend and the other is a finger rubber. They are the whores of hollywood. These keep pumping shit films out of their gay Jew asses.

  • I WONT PART 2 !!!

  • So, if someone likes a film (like for example, you obviously like the old Gojira movies) he/she is automatically a "pathetic waste"? I think this is in fact a great kaiju movie. Although I'd have to agree that it is nothing like the original Godzilla films.(And to me, it made it even better cause I honestly don't like any Japanese films except for horror films and the first Gojira) Too much "everything" is their motto.... Lights, suits, screams, over acting. and the list goes on and on...

  • I apologize for that comment my friends told me to call him a name that would fit with the movie i meant no offense. I admit i really do like this movie it is not bad but it was no good. again I admit that some of the J-godzilla films got a bit to flashy and went a bit to much on effect. So again I apoplogize i meant no offense

  • @thedarknight307 there will be a reboot in 2012, its official now

  • @thedarknight307 You know who sucks.. Someone who can't spell Pathetic..

  • @thedarknight307 People are not pathetic for liking this film asshole. It happened to be a really good film despite it not being a total Godzilla flick. Grow the fuck up please.

  • @thedarknight307 Wait you're calling people who like this film pathetic? What about you? You can't even spell the word "pathetic" or "sequel" for that matter. Why don't you go back to school and learn how not to be a moron before you criticize other people.

  • this was not like godzillia he doesnt breath out fire and hegets killied by the army this movie was disapointing

  • he does breathe fire he did it 2 times

  • Actually in the movie he had wind breath and some how the wind breath blew cars away and made them blew up because if you look closely you can see the fire is not exactually coming from his mouth unlike the Real godzilla you can tell it is coming from his mouth

  • that makes sense

  • This movie is one of the best I've ever seen, although I guess people got angry that they made him into a giant iguana, but myself I think this is a much more realistic Godzilla, and also I really liked the acting, I wish Matthew Broderick, Hank Azaria and Jean Reno was around in movies more today...

  • Well, if it was such a thing like that I would stick to the 98 remake, because I find it slightly more beliveable, but that's just me I guess.

  • Well, that's the thing almost any animal would run away from gunfire.

  • I get a thumbs down for each opinion?

    Nice. Very mature guys.

  • tis godzilla is a reptile godzilla tat y he can lay eggs

  • But I thought the real design of Godzilla's origin should be that way. Before Godzilla the japanese version was mutated, what creature was he then?

  • well if you watched the godzilla vs king ghidorah movie not the old one the 90's one it tells you that godzilla was a lost dinosaur on a island where a few year i think later a nuclear bomb was deinated near by and radiation effected him

  • i would so shit my pants at 1:21

  • I actually like the American Godzilla's design. My problem is that he laid eggs, didn't have radioactive breath and was killed by missiles. The big one is that he didn't stand for anything. What makes the original Japanese Godzilla one of the greatest characters in the history of cinema is that he's a metaphor of the horrors caused by the atomic bomb. The American Godzilla is just a big lizard.

  • Yeah i did like the American Godzilla's Design too

Although When the Animated Series Came out

it Started Loveing The Show.Cause that American Godzilla had a Breath Weapon,Didnt Have Baby's and he kick ass

  • he stood for the horrors of the atomic bomb that we inflicted upon the japanese

  • @mechatyler did have radioactive breath ye idiot

  • @9EDERZz9 Uh no he didn't, you idiot.

  • @9EDERZz9 no godzilla did not have blue atomic breath in this... an this is not Godzilla Toho officially renamed the monster ''Zilla'' it isn't worth of Godzilla.

An in Godzilla: Final wars the real Godzilla kills the iguana in 13 seconds showing how pitiful it was.

Wait for the American Reboot coming in 2012, it will be the real Godzilla an will fight other monsters with his atomic breath

  • @XxComablackxX1937 Maybe I should have said to you what I said to mechatyler.... So read the comment below this one and pretend it was meant for you. K?

  • @mechatyler: well, they did reference the effects of atomic weapons in this movie

  • @mechatyler 98 Godzilla was supposed to be as real as possible.. that means if there really was a 30 story "lizard" he cant breathe atomic fire, lay eggs, possibly killed by missiles, and wont stand for anything.. AT ALL. The movies goal was to show what a REAL Godzilla attack would be like and if it stands away from a guy in a lizard costume, then oh well.

  • @mechatyler

Godzilla hasn't stood for the horrors of nuclear weapons since 1955.

  • I Just Watched it on my DVR just now.Great movie!!

  • I loved this movie, as a matter of fact, it's on tv right now. That part when the guy is fishing is the funniest part of the movie, but i did love the whole movie. You guys remember the Taco bell commercials with the dog and Godzilla? those were the days

  • btw i should add(this goes to all the people saying it should be the beast from 20,000 fathoms) if the film was called the beast from 20,000 fathoms people would say godzilla rip off. btw people who say godzilla looks like a t-rex didn't the original godzilla orginate from a t-rex like dino(godzillasaurus) so it makes sense for godzilla to look like this. last but not least why does everyone sy the baby's look like raptors, raptors have skinny heads these baby's have huge heads.i'll shut up now.

  • i remember i first saw this trailer as a 2 year old i had nighmares that night.

  • oh yeah, I remembered this awesome trailer...good action movie but one thing is that godzilla looks almost like T-rex, so this creature design is alright to me, but good movie anywya.

  • I wish they could make a sequel of this film, it was great.

  • Nicholas, i think you should ignore these dumb Toho Nerds who are pissed off because Tri-Star supposedly effed up their greatest child-hood hero...

Come on, if you wanted a perfect Godzilla movie, you should've asked Toho, and not tri-star. This movie wasn't meant to be a remake of the original Godzilla film...

You oughtta blame TOHO for giving Tri-Star the rights to "ruin" your beloved Japzilla.

    Nuff said.

  • Thank you.

I for one think this was a great standalone action movie. Not a remake or a sequel, but more of a reinvention...

  • @ruhani777

Stupid comment, there is only 1 godzilla an Emmerich pretty much didn't involve Toho for shit an didn't follow anything that toho requested them to do for Godzilla.

Toho has always wanted an American Godzilla film an for it to be an success.. which is why Toho is working WITH Legendary Pictures to Reboot N to fix this pitiful disgrace of a movie

It was an insult to Godzilla, an the only thing they did right was NOT make a sequel

Emmerich an any1 involved with this movie should die

  • @ruhani777

    1. Were not Dumb. How would you like it if you were exited about something just to see it crash and burn for no good reason.

    2. We never asked for Tri-star to make a Godzilla movie. Yes it is supposed to be a remake of of the original, but it failed horribly at it. And whats the point of making something completely different than the source material but still keeping the name? Why not call it something else?

    3. It's not Toho's fault that Tristar fucked everything up.

    Nuff said.

  • @ruhani777

    1. Were not Dumb. How would you feel if something you were exited about crashed and burned for no good reason?

    2. We never asked Tri-star for a perfect G movie. And it was supposed to be a remake, but it failed. What's the point of making something completely different from its source material, but still keeping the name? Why not be logical and call it something else before all the real G fans hate it?

    3. It's not Toho's fault that Tri-star fucked it up.

    Nuff said.

  • @SaiyanRider54 I mostly agree with you. Especially on your 2nd point. But sadly Toho did OK it.

  • this was a great remake cool story really cool looking godzilla i really like the old godzilla movies 2 when i was little i was obsessd with godzilla i have somany toys and tapes from when i was little and u can be sure i whent nuts when i heard a remake was coming out the ones from the 50's 2 the 1985 version were all mostly really good but this is the only good one from the 90's and the 200 ones all sucked or atleast i thought

  • it's not a remake... and its not part of the franchise.

  • it is a remake its the american version of it

  • haha love this:D

  • Godzilla was meant to be a sheer brute monster. Zilla was meant to be an animal just trying to survive in a hostile world.

  • Cue Jaws theme song!

  • lol

  • It sounds like Home Alone music!

  • yea, same for the avgn fans, they both make good points, but make your own judgements people!.

  • Yeah, well. Could you honestly say that the original Godzilla movies had any better writing or acting or whatever? This was a fun popcorn movie. If you enjoyed it, fine. If you din't, fine. Just don't say stupid things like that. A lot of people (incuding myself) find it disgusting to see a creature so horribly made (suitmation) and whats even worst, spit fire and/or "atomic breath" and crush lego house beneath his rubber feet.

  • The name is supposed to be Gojira. And yes, the original movies are 100 times better. They totally changed the strength of Gojira. A submarine torpedo destroys Gojira. yeah, right, he's that weak. Stop with the "Atomic" disrespectful part. I didn't like this movie, but again, to each or his own.

  • I also think the problem with the 1998 "Gojira" movie is they stripped Gojira of all the strength and tried to make Gojira too realistic, thereby destroying the integrity of Gojira's power and strength. But if you liked the movie, to each his or her own.

    Peace.

  • And I think that to each its own... And thats the end of the discussion. I despise old Gman movies. You despise this one. Its as simple as that.

  • yea, if they stood to remake from Godzilla 94(even that one would have been hurt by the military)., it would have been kind of the same old, monster v.s monster, havent we seen that already?. This is an american version, an improvement from Godzilla solo movies, less sci-fi ish, but still cool.

  • It's as simple as this. If this movie was a remake of "The Beast Of 20,000 Fathoms" it would have been a smash hit success and no one would have complained. The creature was cool but it wasn't Godzilla. PERIOD. You don't have to disrespect Toho Godzilla films to appreciate Tri-Star Godzilla otherwise you kill your own argument. Both have good and bad qualities.

  • That's what I've been saying for years. It really was "The Beast Of 20,000 Fathoms" because it looked more like him than Godzilla.

Hollywood likes to ruin things I guess. Look what they did to Dragon Ball and now the upcoming King of Fighters movie

  • What moron would go fishing in the rain? I know I wouldn't; I would stay indoors!

Man, how lucky can you be to get a bite just a few seconds after casting? It's bullshit!

When I saw that pole being thrown into the water, I almost thought the trailer was for another Jaws movie.... then I saw the monster (it doesn't deserve to be called Godzilla) rising, and a friend of mine told me "That's a little bigger than a shark, buddy."

  • well thats the what its supouse to be a monster its an animal and it doesent know what its doing it just whant to leg some eggs the jap godzilla is like intelligent but ofc thouse godzilla are from the 70s-80s but the new godzilla whas far better.

  • ROFLMAO I WILL NEVER FORGET THIS TRAILER, I have no idea why its stuck with me but I always remember the old man running being so hillarious to me as a kid. And when I did rent this movie its the only part I freaking remember, I have seen the movie once, and I plan on seeing it again for kicks.

  • i watched this movie when i was 5...those used to be the days

  • this godzilla is far better than the japanese they just live in a fantasy world and not on the real one... this is realistisc not like the japanese on that shot fire and lassser from hes eyes Lol.... -.-

  • LOL ROFL:DD They just live in fantasy world?:DD Sorry, I have forgot that some hundred meters tall and thousands of tones in New York walking dragon is VERY realistic:D

Dude, japanese godzilla series is special sci-fi movies. Saying that there is too much phantasies in it is the same as tell that in documentary movies there is too much of reality.

  • how much iQ do u have m8 ;) read my comment again and if u dont understand what i mean, bad luck.... : (

  • I understand you. And coudln't agree more. Japanese Godzilla is way too asian... I mean, they have a whole different thetrical form over which is fine for them, but I can't fully believe those who say that they like that style. It just doesn't work for us.

And thats what Dean and Roland tried to do: To adapt a Japanese "fairy tale" to our modern day cinema style. Sadly it didn't work and we were denied a sequel. A damn shame if you ask me.

  • Well I understood that you mean that japanese godzilla series are TOO fantastic.

But in sci-fi movies there is no such thing as "too fantastic" just like in documentary - there is no such thing as "too realistic".

And yeah, if you mean that japanese godzilla shotts from his eyes, you are wrong, couse he don't do that.

  • I admit the japenease does unrealistic thing in the Monster films but thats whats so good about them they take you away from boring reality. I also admit that this film could have easily been something else. Yes this film was a bit more realistic but still not all films are supposed to be realistic people dont like boring reality sometimes but still this film was not good but also not bad.

  • well i meant by realistic is with the story line, and the effects, actually realistic probably doesent have nothing to do with it so my apologize :). japanesee probably does good movie havent seen japanese movies mutch, but im more comparing the old gozila and the new one, but ofc the new one have to be better as the technology avanzed every year aswell.

  • lol i remember seeing this film in theaters when i was 6. for some stupid reason the baby godzillas scared the shit out of me. i laugh at myself when i think back on that

  • "homogenized turkey" LMAO but yes I have too agree. Godzilla (1954) is my favorite

  • Yes. If you're into that kaiju/power ranger/stroboscopic lights kinda crap. Then yes, theres only the japanese Godzilla.

I would take a cheesy plot and mediocre acting over cheesy plot, mediocre acting, KUNG FU FIGHTING! and lame rubber suits any day of the week. Oh, and don't forget about those Lego cities that get destroyed...

  • sorry but the Japanese godzilla would not have been killed by like 5 missiles. good movie just not a good godzilla movie

  • Thats exactly what I like about this version. Its more "human" in a way... You can actually feel for the creature...

  • You miss the whole point of Godzilla.

You cant kill an atomic bomb.

There's nothing human or 'humane' about it.

It's indestructable and kills anything its path without remorse. You're not supposed to feel or care for it.

That's what 1954 Godzilla movie was about.

It was a physical manifestation of the Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima & Nagasaki.

A thousand times more impact than this Jurassic Park wannabee

  • Thats your opinion... I personally don't care for human dramas... I just don't. I guess you could call me a misanthrope. Especially in movies. I go into the theater to watch a fun film. Not to mourne the dead.

You don't like this Jurassic Park wannabe. I do.

I bet you also like Superman and his "ability" to never die... I just found that "almightness" lame and boring...

  • What you'd prefer the Nicolas Cage non flying Superman that fights a giant spider that Kevin Smith almost was going to do in the 90's that he makes fun about in his monologue speeches?

  • Actually, I'd prefer the NO Superman at all...

Cause I hate his freaking guts!

But If I had to choose I would pick a non flying Superman over the regular one any day of the week. (although I'm not so sure about that whole giant spider thing...)

  • Beast from 20,000 Fathoms is up on Youtube. DO me a favor and watch the whole thing and then watch 54 Godzilla and then tell me which movie is closer to 1998 Godzilla...

  • It's not about which is closer. It's about which one I LIKE.

And I like 1998 Godzilla, doesn't matter if its closer to titanic than to the original Godzilla.

I have always thought of it as a stand alone movie, not part of a franchise. And maybe more people should do the same. That way they wouldn't be so harsh on a good action movie.

  • @Nicholas092282 amen to that!

  • This was a good movie for its time, i remember seeing it as a kid

  • First vewer and have to say awsome
