How exactly do we get involved in Opus Dei? I made an inquiry to them several years ago and was told that since there was no Opus Dei group in my city I was basically out of luck -- that someone from Opus Dei would have to start a community here first. Has anyone heard of anything changing from that?
So true ... each of us needs to step up and do what they can to learn about our faith to advance the kingdom of heaven!!
EVERY Catholic can start doing this NOW!! There are so many wonderful resources from faithful catholic groups (such as St.Michael's Media).
You don't have to wait and figure out how to join Opus Dei ... just start now. Gather some of your catholic friends and start learning together ... study the bible, pray, learn the faith.
Ministries and Prayer groups, by Prayer groups, Parishes by Parishes, Dioceasesses by Dioceassesses Country by Country, Church by Church, and then Chuch by World.
As a member of Opus Dei, I fully endorse this video. The Church has lost its way and it is up to us, the Laity, to start a groundswell towards renewal. Opus Dei can give us this. I have found that, through my own personal mortification and denial of worldly ways, my vision is purer and more certain than ever before. Also, now that I don't have to see women as equal, much of my confusion has disappeared. Thank God for Blessed Josemaria Escriva!
@kidart89 He obviously is using equal to mean "identical". Women and men are not equal - they are different. Are they both essential to society? Yes - but men and women are not equal. No gender is better than the other, but they are certainly not equal.
Red is not equal to green - but both are perfectly valid colors, and both are just as important.
Hopefully, livetsom DID mean "not identical." But he said "not equal," and that came out VERY BADLY. The choice of words matters. Just to be clear, women ARE equal to men in value, worth, and dignity. We have different vocations that are equally important.
@calexander007 >> Just to be clear, women ARE equal to men in value, worth, and dignity.
But that is not the same as BEING equal, or seeing them as equal without qualification. He does not have see woman as equal in all ways - just in the ways that are related to their ontological status as human persons.
Thank you so much, Michael, for your inspiring efforts. I'm just concerned a little because their website says the following "In 1991, Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, Archbishop of Chicago, entrusted the parish of St. Mary of the Angels to priests of Opus Dei."
It seems to me that Cardinal Bernardin was not a vocal defender of ALL church teaching, and proposed the "seamless garment" theory of social justice. Does this concern you at all? Or was this just an instance where he got something right?
I think there is nothing more that lends credibility to the goodness and effectiveness of 'Opus Dei' than the fact that the Media and this culture hates it . If the world had loved Opus Dei, I would be automatically suspicious of it. But since the opposite is true they must be doing something good. "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you." John 15:19
I think one can also be a Third Order member of a number of different religious orders (e.g. Franciscan, Carmellite, etc.) and also receive an exceptional formation in the faith.
Thanks for your response. I have read San Jose Maria Escriva and listened videos of him speaking (My first language is Spanish). I admire him and love him. I wouldn't doubt of his good intentions. But people talk about the organization and it is good to have the opinion of someone that knows better. Thanks!
@silversnow2008 although I'm not a member of Opus Dei, when I lived in Spain I experienced it first hand. They are a fantastic organisation that helps many many people live a holy life. Unfortunately they have a bad reputation but I can assure you that it is completely without foundation :)
@silversnow2008 The controversies aren't true - and most of them are based on Dan Brown's sensationalism. Opus Dei is the ONLY personal prelature of the pope. The founder is a saint. They have full papal approval.
I would encourage people to look into Opus Dei. I personally have found it in the Secular Franciscans. However, I have also heard wonderful things about Opus Dei. Anyone who feels called to join OD should seriously (and prayerfully) consider following that call.
Thanks Michael...we also highly recommend buying the Navarre bible series which was done by Opus Dei...it has fantastic commentary. As a former pastor, I have found these commentaries incredibly timely and instructional particularily for the laity. In this time of lent they provide transformational insight and inspiration along side the daily liturgy.
That was a very courageous suggestion to Catholics. I have always thought that Opus Dei was attacked by the media because it represented just the kind of hope that the socialists/communists needed to crush. The Church, as you have said many times, represents the path to God. The very thing that those in the shadows wish to deny to mankind.
Glad to hear this alternative as opposed to another youtuber (paleocrat) I used to admire that recently crossed over to the Sedevacantism sect. Would be nice if you could convince him otherwise, as he is a wonderful person and great speaker but a little too smart? for his own good.
A fantastic message. Thanks. I know Opus Dei in Poland and I thank God they exist and they try to help others to come closer to Him.

First we need to widely and powerfully reform the Church to what Vatican auctually II aucutally mandated, before the Church can change the world.

The Church has become a social club. Even social clubs requires it's members to follow their rules. How can we address these issues?

Opus Dei has undergone a bad reputation courtesy of the sensational and irresponsible writer, Dan Brown.

I studied at an Opus Dei centre and the people there are the happiest people I have ever seen.
