@mskumarsotherside No..No man...Nothing here is pathetic!Perhaps comparision is unfair. Always unfair. Many ppl miss things about the main point to be considered in comparision. Each mind is unique and falls towards infinity. When you start looking at Music as an expression, each of them are unique. How do you compare 2 different color/feel.say anger and love? Both are diff & so each thngs in Music. As far i learnt & know, Western music infinity thru harmony but carnatic see it thru one dimension.
WE CAN NOT COMPARE MOZART WITH ANYBODY ...... ANYBODY . EVERYTHING GROWS ON MOZART . YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THE MATHEMATICS DEVELOPED BY NEWTON IS TAUGHT IN 12 STANDARD THESE DAYS .... SO DOES THAT MAKE THE MSc IN MATHEMATICS TO BE BETTER THAN NEWTON??? ,,,, THESE ARE BEYOND COMPARISON ......
Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, Ilayaraja, He can beat any musician and rule the music world and then love music some more. [Music is from Geetanjali - thank you for the time and effort]
Another of Raja's album, 'How to name it' has a score that has Bach's Sonata running along with Indian classical song-line. Its called 'When Bach met Thyagaraja'. He has shown us how Indian and Western music can co-exist-that was something nobody can ever dream to attempt, and he has done that brilliantly. Here again, its not a comparision, but a study of the music these geniuses composed.
@anandtimes Yes, How to name has a couple of tracks (variations) from Bach's Partitas. They are Bourre in Eminor (BWV 996) and Prelude in E Major (BWV 1006 ). Of course they are epic. Till my knowledge I would say IR is the greatest "Counterpoint" Composer. I mean harmony in music. Composing multiple tracks with astounding melody line and creating consonance. "And we had a talk" just makes me to think that Bach and Thiayagaraja talk in highly intricate language of music, yet understandable!
Very nice video!..Mozart, Bach and Beethoven set such brilliant standards in western classical music..which eventually laid the basis of harmony in music theory...just like Thayaagarajar, and Diikshitar laid the foundations of the melodic form...
I think Raaja was superbly clever in getting the deep aspects of both western classical and Carnatic styles...I would say neither is superior ...
Musicians of any genre should always form a community...
It may be an attempt to see the similarities among the great minds. Those who are blissfully ignorant does this job of comparison. Actually one cannot compare a highly dynamic composer's mind. Most of Mozart's work is in Major scale (this one Eine kleine Nachtmusik is in G major) however Raja has tried in majors and minors exhaustively. This excerpt shows that Raja has used classical era (western) tech in his Nothing But Wind.

This is an unnecessary comparison. In such comparisons, Ilayaraja is likely to
to be underrated which he doesn't deserve.
