Ok. I've thought about it. And I think that you need to accept that Gordon Brown and anyone else can admire Thatcher without completely endorsing her politics. To think otherwise is childish.

Though in reality there's barely any difference between Labour and Tory anymore. And this is because socialism is unworkable and Thatcherism makes sound economic sense. To quote Thatcher: "Socialism is dead. Even Labour have turned their backs on it."

We've never had a socialist government in the UK (yes, that includes every Labour government).

For a few working class people lucky enough the keep their jobs during Thatcherism, they probably did do well. However, Scottish industry dissappeared because of Thatcherism, leaving mass unemployment across the central belt, which still exists to this day.

And let's face it, signing on is hardly a fast-track the high-life.

Working class isn't the whole society. It's not some kind of sacred cow that we should praise all the time in every circumstances. Britain, as a country, after Thatcherism was much stronger than before it, it is a simple fact.

And a politician shouldn't be judged by what he/she did to one individual or even several groups of people. The state of the whole nation is what really counts.

As for the term 'socialist' - nowadays everyone uses it as they want. So did I. ;)

Thatcher didn't fix the problems of the 70s, she just changed them. She put millions of people out of work, encouraged everyone to get into debt and steered the country into recession. These are the real facts of Thatcherism.

In this case it is very strange that so many political commentators and economists praise Lady Thatcher and President Reagan for what they did. Nobody's perfect, but it's silly to state that she was the worst PM this country ever had.

I mentioned that above, as I said, Thatcher just changed the problems. We went from things like unions being far too powerful to wholly useless. Everything went to far to the right. As a result, British industry was ripped to shreds and millions became unemployed.

The problem of modern politics is (in my opinion) our outdated mindset. We think left or right, socialism or capitalism. I believe that both this system are wrong. Human nature isn't socialistic, nor capitalistic, it isn't even sth 'in between' . It's just completetly different. Man is a social creature and without society he could not exist. On the other hand, he also needs some privacy and wants to own things others don't possess. We will probably never achieve harmony that suits both needs.

What you're talking about is socio-economics and the balance therein. I personally think government should focus more on the social & less on the economic side (although obviously having to pay for social policies somehow).

Thatcher opted for economic policies at the detriment of lot of necessary social policies and this is why so may people hate her. She made millions of people's lives worse & things haven't really recovered since then.
