I will attempt to delve into the deepest human meaning of this song. There seems to be a metaphor throughout this song for the loss of man's innocence. This is also evident in the story of Adam and Eve. Eve represents man's temptations on his quest for love. She convinces him that sexual desire is love. But in reality it is Adam's own lust which controls him and they are both being tricked by the serpent (likely symbolic of a man's sexual organ... which most often leads him astray.)
Every Serj's songs are so great (specially on his solo album), even ones with no real deep meaning like Empty walls... And such songs with even deeper meaning, let's not even discuss about them, they're perfect!
First, Empty Walls is the first song of the album, the opener, so it's commercial in a way, just to introduce, so the meaning hasn't gotta be too deep. Second, the subject.. Iraq? wtf, just to make the song more known, since IRAQ is the big subject nowadays on news, etc. He's just stating facts, he doesn't take too much opinion on those facts. That's why I don't admire Empty Walls, even if it describes what's going on.
Doesn't matter if it is the first song or the last song, each and every song on an album generally has a meaning, if not to the artist than to the lyrics interpreter (aka, you and me).
Each listener will probably interpret a song differently than somebody else anyway. Empty Walls to me signifies war or violence of some kind. Not necessarily Iraq.
Serj and SAOD are a lot like rage against the machine...except Serj and SOAD make people think and use symbolism with kick ass music to get their point across...while RATM just screams "mother fuck the police!!!" and have only like 3 good songs
Excuse me? Rage Against the Machine don't just scream "FUCK THE POLICE!!!" all the time. Maybe if you sat down and listened to more than just 3 of their songs you would understand that.
The only difference I see between RATM and Serj is that Serj's lyrics seem a bit more clearer as to what he's meaning. While with RATM you had to look a bit further (not necessarily a bad thing). That and Serj's lyrics are about the politics of today, RATM's aren't and can't be really.
I don't agree that Serj lyrics are clearer. THE main idea of his songs are moderate to find BUT he has a whole lot of metaphors and symbolism which is even deeper, which is the very root of his songs which demand a lot of thought, knowledge, and intelligence since Serj has a very "complex" way of seeing stuff, which is the peek of intelligence in some way.
And I also don't agree that Serj's lyrics are only about politics, has Feed Us gotta to do with them? about the system and it's consequences.
Feed Us is politcal in a sence. To me, Feed Us "talks about" (for lack of a better term) how the media and the government feed us a bunch of shit and lies.
This was a awesome song, but the problem is I can't a webstie on where I can download this song from and also this song kept me listening forever and ever!
Just empty walls. An animated depiction of him appears in Lie, Lie, Lie. I don't speak for just the released ones either. I have seen all the videos of Elect the Dead, even the unreleased ones.
dude, at the parts where he's shirtless, you can see the body proportions are totally different. and besides, if serj shaved his beard off for just this video (y would he?) how did he grow it back so quickly?
excuse me have you seen what Serj's brother looks like? No, it's not Serj's brother:-)The man in this video is an actor, like...the same as when they get a guy for a Britney Spears video...an actor.
where is he in beethovens cunt? hes obviously in sky is over, empty walls, and animated in lie lie lie. hes not in this, and i dunno about money (still unreleased). thats it tho, check on his site.

Why would you say Empty Walls has no great meaning?

I do agree that Serj's songs are great, but what do you mean Empty Walls has no "real deep meaning"?
It's my fave song on the album because of it's meaning. Have you ever watched the video?

I'm amazed at how great every song on his solo album is. Although I shouldn't be since I am a SOAD fan.
ioio32l 3 years ago
why shouldn't you be? Serj was a part of SOAD. His sound heals a tiny longing for SOAD. He is amazing!

This is an ok song (not as good as the other songs on the album). Listen to 0:58. Seems like somebody took some ideas from
Muse - Muscle Museum. Exact same notes
