Such a lovely video. Going here next september for first time to see my Uncle James Millers grave. He was a private in the British Army, his unit 14th Field Survey Squadron. He died in a traffic accident on 18/09/1949 at a youg age of 20 yrs. It's good to see these videos and know they will always be remembered!!
My son was stillborn and is buried here.I am so honoured and proud he is buried with the men and women who fought for our freedom...LEST WE FORGET xx
Hannover war cemetery is next to Ahlem or Limmer cemetery now known as Hannover Military Cemetery. It is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission for the British Army. You can find info on this by visiting the War graves website cwgc. There is also next to it a Jewish memorial which is not maintained by the war graves.
Hi this is a beautiful cemetery and very well kept. Can anyone please tell me if this is also the Ahlem cemetery where families are buried too? My Mum was buried there almost 35 years ago. I would love to send her some flowers is that possible to do or does anyone know how to do that? thank you for the video
hi stuart, iam going over to the cemetery in hannover next spring to pay respects, did you live in hannover? do you know the bus routes to the cemetery or taxi fares? any help appreciated..jim
I did work in Hannover Cem but came back to England at the end of April 2010.I lived in Wietze near Celle so never got to know Hannover very well.First of all contact The Commonwealth War Graves Commision.cwgc.org they have an office in Maidenhead and an area office for Northern Europe in Ieper(Belgium).
You can get a taxi from Han airport but it would be expensive maybe 50 euros or more. From Han train station you can get a tram to Ahlem and walk from there.
@stuarteldergill ..visited my late brother last week..very well kept cemetery..loved hannover returning again in september, thanks for your help stuart, also paid respects to the jewish memorial next door.
Thank you so much. You have enabled me to actually view the grave site of my uncle, a young soldier, tragically killed in a traffic accident on the autobahn in 1956, when he was just 19 years old. This is the culmination of a long search on my part. You have created a very moving and tasteful video, which honours those who rest there. Thank you again.
@Major161176 . forgive me for the intrusion, would your uncle's name be William by any chance?, he's my father but died under same circumstances in 1957, he also is buried in Hanover, Germany, thank you.
@DOLPHIN031954. It's not an intrusion. My uncle's name is Frank Jones. It is our plan to visit the cemetery - and his grave - sometime in the future, when we make our long-promised and overdue tour of Europe. My sympathy on the loss of your father.
@Major161176 Thank you for your reply and my sympathy to you, too. My father was a Military Police Sergeant at the time of his death in 1957. He took part in the allied forces invasion from Messina to Rome, Italy and was then stationed with BAOR in Germany.
