Matthew 20: 1-16; I can't believe he used a parable about how everyone who finds God gets the same reward (heaven), and it doesn't matter when u were saved, whether it was early in your life or on ur deathbed, everyone is treated equally. He twisted the meaning of the story and made it about workers taking low wages so it would support his views, when if u think about it, that parable supports the opposing view, but imo this type of parable should be used to support any political view.
@alexjonesdid911 i didnt know wanting to restore the USA to its former constitutional basis made Ron Paul a nazi, good luck with whoever you vote for!
The Bible is self contradictory anyway. Take something in it, take something else completely opposite about the same topic and fight! FUCK IT! THINK! THINK! NOT EVEN FOR god's SAKE!
If Faux News really wanted to slap the Pope, there are ample instances of the Catholic church's immoral action from abetting pedophilia to reckless endangerment of people by standing against condom use. No, they choose to show that the Pope isn't sufficiently oppressive on the economic front nor do they squelch the rights of the 99% enough.
Ron Paul, the only person who's pro life for a legit reason, if you are going to take someone's pro-life stance, take it from someone who served in the medical field.
Most abortions occur natural, the body rejects them. Also, god commanded people to kill over and over and over again. How can people still claim God was pro life?
@Defhrone I'm guessing the same way they claim God is loving, merciful & forgiving tho it created a place for billions of people to be tortured eternally.
I never understood that. Jesus's views are totally conflicting with Republican views. Jesus would want a totally borderless world where we feed the poor and give all our money to charity.
@rvggarcon That's true as long as it was voluntary and not forced by any organization or government. Also, both of those men were misinterpreting those passages from Scripture.
@ransom22 But ideally that is what he would want the world to be like and his followers to do. All these Republicans act like they are such "true Christians", well walk the fucking walk. If you are such a good Christian then you shouldn't need to be forced to do these things.
@rvggarcon You're absolutely right. This is why everyone needs to be given the opportunity to make the choice for themselves and not be forced into by a religion or by a government. That's what Jesus was all about. The responsibility of the individual to make their own choices.
@rvggarcon Actually, he would want a world with no money. People put money above everything. That includes god. Jesus would want a world where all people are socially equal. That way, people would concentrate on living. Jesus would be against capitalism, the market and the banks. The problem is that some rich conservative christian republican racists only take into consideration the lines in the bible, and constitution, that are good for them.
@rvggarcon That's not true. He spoke of many different nations and cultures, He never said we're all to be one nation. The only thing we all have in common is sin and the need for a savior. Yeah, feed the poor and help your brother when he's in need. If everyone gave everything to charity... then we'd all need charity... then who would then provide the charity? Taking one passage out of context is a poor way to understand the Bible.
He wasn't quoting that like "it was the best thing ever." He was merely pointing out that life when the bible was created was different. and you can't use it to promote worker's rights in the modern age.

@TylerRosales yeah you'd think so, but unfortunately that's not how it works seeing as how that worked out in the late 1800s in, well, mainly Great Britain just after the industrial revolution. wow.... the parable all the men who "work" all agreed to work for 1 (our term dollar) they only say its unfair when they see others get paid the same for working less. The fact that they all "agreed" to work for it is just and fair, the owner of the vineyard is a nice man putting "jobless men" to work
in short he created jobs for a group of men that all made a agreement before they started (contract) whats wrong with that sound s pretty legit for 4000 years ago........
maybe we shouldn't blaspheme... You think? Unlike most Americans I am from a Paternal Autocratic nation and I know first hand that Communism doesn't work. As a Catholic, I think Charity is very important... But when people are made to give someone else their hard earned wages it really isn't fair. The Young Turks are simply the epitome of turn of the century (20th) Progressives like Roosevelt (T), Wilson, and FDR. Not to mention LBJ who is possibly the worst president in history...
The conserv has this completely backwards. The whole point of the bible story was that the men who worked all day received a fair wage..when some workers came late they were paid the same wage "And after agreeing with the workers for the standard wage, he sent them into his vineyard" Matt 20:2. The master paid all the same and first ones were angry bc they thought they would get more even they were paid fairly. The master was not unfair to the workers. It is NOT ok to be unfair to workers.
The reporter has taken that passage way out of context. There wouldn't be so many people against Christianity if, when undertaking a Christian goal, people accurately and responsibly quoted the Bible.
@jcurry3school and it would be easier to understand if there weren't so many unanswered questions. it would also be less of a joke if a preacher could work through this conversation: Me: "How do you kow God exists?" Preacher: "Because the Bible says he does." Me: "How do you know the Bible is true?" Preacher:"Because the Bible says it's true" Me: "So you are blindly following a belief that you don't know for sure is unquestionably true?" Preacher: "Ummmmm, well, uhhh..............."
@Ir0nF1st924 The problem with your scenario is that you are asking a preacher for an answer. Please consider reading for yourself and then decide whether or not you believe. I know that it seems illogical to believe in a God but, when one considers all of the life sustaining elements in play, it is illogical (to me) to not believe in a higher power. People like this pastor polarize Christianity with the rest of the world but, I don't think its supposed to be this way.
Who cares what someone who wasn't even there at the time says that some probably ficticious guy named Jesus said. Those people were as superstitious and delusional as anyone ever was. They thought the world was flat and sacrificed animals to please their imaginary God. They endorced rape, slavery, and murder. This is what you've chosen to follow?
Didn't that parable end with the workers killing the vineyard owner's foreman and his son in a way that would make Tarintino blush? Or was that a different vineyard story?
Foxs' interpretation was wrong....the all day guy AGREED to work all day for one Denari, the half day guy AGREED to work the half day for one Denari ,and the 1 hour guy AGREED 1Denari for 1 hour.
It is, of course, funny that a Fox anchor would use a parable that highlights free and unmerited liberality to justify the decisions of employers to do whatever they want with their workers. But it's perhaps more telling still that the distinction between an employer on the one hand and God (represented by the parable's vineyard owner) on the other is blown over entirely—so that capitalism comes closer to literal deification than usual.
This left-wing strawman of "anti-abortion = Catholic Church" needs to die. The right would never back their words up with the Church's teachings because of their views on war and capital punishment, and the fact that many evangelicals *literally* think the Church is the Antichrist, or the Whore of Babylon. No, it saves you from having to think about *why* anyone would oppose abortion, letting you make up and fight a patently illegal basis - and it is never good not to think, for no end.
The part I found most hilarious about that whole debacle was that the Fox News guy, in all his fervour to seem pious in justifying his conservatism, actually got the Bible reference for his passage wrong - he cited a chapter of the Bible (Mark 20) which DOESN'T EVEN EXIST! He also offers an interpretation of that passage (which is actually in Matthew 20) which makes literally no sense whatsoever.
The Pope is more than likely a distributionalist, which is not a socialist. I doubt our young turk has even heard of it. Distributionism, while it has it's roots in the Medival period is more "modern" in that it takes the form of a network of connected guilds or coops(not to be confused with modern labor unions). It is apolitical. The core of Distributionism is the nuclear family.
A White, Straight, Honest and Working Man who is Liberal is like those Nazi-hired Jewish Police that kept order in the Polish Ghettos…They’re looking to snuff you out and your helping them do it. Regardless of who wins this fight; you’re going to be put down…but truthfully, you weren’t much of a dignified Man to begin with.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This Young Jerk is complete IDOIT! In the parable, the guy who worked all day got a days wages, that is what he contracted to receive for the day's work. The others also contracted to receive a day's wage for their work, even though it was less than a full days work. This is EXACTLY what all unions are fighting for right now! More pay and less work. The worked received what pay they contracted for, how can that be unfair?
Tthe very fact that opposing sides can point to the same book to bolster their case proves the Bible is a convoluted and contradictory mess which cannot be relied upon to arbitrate disputes. So if people were reasonable they would dismiss citation of the Bibe all together, when arguing a point.
The parable in Matthew 20 starts off by saying "The Kingdom of Heaven is like..." Now, to me, these verses have always implied that it doesn't matter when one starts doing the Lords work, their reward of eternal life will be the same regardless. I never knew it was a green light to suppress worker's rights. .. thanks Faux for the clarification!
Jesus was a Commie! He lived in a commune. He renounced earthly things and urged rich people to give away their riches to the poor. He said a rich person is about as likely to get to heaven as it would be for a camel to go through the eye of a needle.
@petersz98 he also said that people who have lots of stuff will get lots ofstuff and people who don't have much will have it all taken from them. Luke 19:26
Well, it's Matthew 20:1-16, and it is a PARABLE about how God takes all into Heaven who work to join and be with Him, accept Him - regardless of when they show up, they get the same reward [in the parable it is a denari, in Jesus Christ and salvation it is Heaven - don't grumble about it, whether you accepted Christ early or late in life, the reward is the same]. Now, if we take it to labor and wages, they negotiated for the price - take what you "agreed" - that implies negotiation. Hmmm...
I had 1 reason and 1 caveat for that comment. The reason is because Religion already is a huge factor in politics and isn't paying it's share. However, everyone has a right to a voice, even the "people" of the religious right. I'd no sooner take away their right than my own. But until churches are taxed, politicians should treat them the same way they'd treat foreign advice; as advice given by someone who doesn't participate.
How many trillions upon trillions of words have been written or spoken concerning religion, the Bible, god(s), Jesus, Mohammed, or any other comparable superstition? Enough! News flash, people, it's all bullshit! No amount of shouting, furrowed brows, or shaking fists will ever make it real. It's the biggest scam ever used against the entire human race. Sheesh!
It's funny when people try to use quotes from the Bible to justify their actions. What authority does the Bible have? If you assert that the the Bible's authority comes from God, then you must demonstrate the existence of God, which no one has been able to do. Seriously, Lord of the Rings has just as much authority as the Bible when all is said and done.
This parable -- in Matthew, by the way, not Mark -- is about the availability of God's grace to those who come to it late in the day, as opposed to those who have found it early -- and one ought not begrudge it to those who have come to it late.
It's not a freaking statement about private property or labor relations.
Umm is it just me or did the Fox anchor actually argue against the bible. Throughout the whole interview he was suggesting that the other guy was using the pope for political reasons. And then it very much sounded like he gave that bible quote to show how ridiculous some parts of the bible can be.
I use to work for a certain shamble of a restaurant and my experience has led me to a response to the comment in regards to who decides what's fair: do you think it's just for the owner of an establishment to mistreat workers and deny them of their wages, despite the fact that they are the ones keeping the establishment running? okay screw the customers, we get it their important, but if all the workers walk out because you're a douche sitting on top of a ladder, who's important now?
The payment was as per the agreement of the boss with his workers. They agreed to work for 1 denari. I see no reason why they complained if they agreed to be paid 1 denari in the first place...
The Parable of the Vineyard, as I understand it, is a metaphor for heaven. "For the Kingdom of Heaven is like a man who was the master of a household, who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard, etc." It means that those who are faithful late in their lives will receive an equal reward to those who are faithful for longer. It has nothing to do with an actual vineyard or wages.
The problem with Fox's interpretation: 1 denari was a decent wage for a days work. He paid the guy who worked all day a very fair wage. The complaint was from the guy who put in more work for 1 denari against the guy who worked 1 hour for 1 denari. The parable shows generosity and grace not "I DECIDE WHATS FAIR!"
@larrywalkerntbi - no, it doesnt show generocity and grace, it does, in fact, say "I DECIDE WHAT IS FAIR!". Because if the verse was REALLY about generocity and grace, then EVERYONE would have gotten the same. Nice try, but dead wrong...unless you believe that generocity and grace is only for a select few, while its the same old same old for everyone else...which would pretty much make you a republican.
@larrywalkerntbi you said 1 denari is a decent wage for a days work.. probably and 8 hour work right? so how come its fair to pay a person who only works for 1 hour 1 denari? wow.. you gave up logic and common sense for your belief...
@larrywalkerntbi isn't it more of a metaphor of how someone that follows the xian god for their entire life receives the same "reward" as a person that has only followed the xian god for a lesser part of their life?
@RetSquid it's not an insult. it means the same thing. I like using because most chistians get pissed off. not only do many of them not read their own bibles, they don't know their own religion's history. what you should be insulted by is that not by atheists who use it because they do know what it means.
and what do you mean by "nowadays?" are you just writing that because everything was "better" in the "good ol'days" or do you have numbers?
@RetSquid oh,you mean when the xian monks 1st started writing that way to save time, paper, and ink? but that's funny; more people can read and write now than ever could before.
why would you be insulted when you write that you know what it means?it's the same thing! you are another ridiculous xian. and I don't use X to piss xians off but I enjoy using it because it does piss some of them off. and because it's a reminder that most of the vocal xians don't know what they are "fighting" against.
Yes, more people are literate now than ever before, so the only reason to write "xian" is to insult Christians. It is very petty of you. It actually demeans YOU, not the Christians you are trying to insult. To me it just displays a fear of writing "Christ", kind of like Dracula and sunlight. :)
@RetSquid Ahh, up in arms about a simple contraction. You just use it to derail a conversation. The use of contracts ESPECIALLY here, where you have a character limit, makes perfect sense, and is not any kind of insult.
But go ahead, be thin skinned. You abandon the conversation and dialogue then.
@larrywalkerntbi The parable also shows absolutely no understanding of Human society. If you were to do the same today there would be a riot.
Sure your doing the same job - but I'm going to give the other guy ten times your hourly wage because I'm so generous. That's the kind of thinking that'll earn you a broken nose.
Wow, the "payment" was an analogy, meaning that it doesn't matter when you turn to god in life. You get the same result in the end. Maybe the commentator will take advantage of that someday.
Comedy Central already has a "Fox" show, The Colbert Report. It's doing good for Comedy Central and, speaking for myself, if I do watch Fox News, I watch it to get a good laugh.
This just shows how well the devil has created fake Christians, and how he uses people like Cenk to discredit Christianity. It works out perfect for people who are too ignorant to see whats really going on around them. I only wish that God saves me and my family.
BTW, Cenk, the name "The Young Turks" fits in beautifully with ur anti christian views. Considering the fact that the "TYT" were responsible for murdering millions of Christians during WWI. Nice going there body.
The Bible was NOT written for any type of political or economical use. It is a spiritual book given to us by God for the sole purpose of our salvation. The 'one denari" quote has nothing to do with workers in earth PEOPLE!!! It is a metaphor for who God saves and when. Example, if a person follows Christ from birth compared to another person who excepts Christ at an old age, they will both receive the same reward. Even though the first person has "work" for Christ much longer then the second.
Sadly, theocracies would disagree with you, The US having no national religion was a shocking thing at the time. Either religion dominating a country (choose mideast of your choice) or country controlling a religion (Anglican/England). Canada had to adopt the no national religion rule. Too many french objecting to the english rule after the war of quebec. US made the right call. Was just a reference to "not even paying the dues of politics" reference. I agree with your sentiment.
The BIBLE is the MARK of the BEAST! Constantine (1st beast) legalized Christianity and had 50 bibles compiled. King James, homo (2nd beast) 666 # of a man, born 1566, 6th of Scotland, authorized 66 book bible, image of God's word, carried in your hand, memorized in your head, made to speak (the bible says) and is used as an object of worship. Your faith will fail.
"1 For, behold, in those days, and in that time, when I shall bring again the captivity of Judah and Jerusalem,
2 I will also gather all nations, and will bring them down into the valley of Jehoshaphat, and will plead with them there for my people and for my heritage Yisrayl, whom they have scattered among the nations, and parted my land.
3 And they have cast lots for my people; and have given a boy for an harlot, and sold a girl for wine, that they might drink.
that fox guy missed the whole point of the parable it was about how the last shale be first and the first shall be last

The reporter has taken that passage way out of context. There wouldn't be so many people against Christianity if, when undertaking a Christian goal, people accurately and responsibly quoted the Bible.
jcurry3school 6 months ago
@jcurry3school and it would be easier to understand if there weren't so many unanswered questions. it would also be less of a joke if a preacher could work through this conversation: Me: "How do you kow God exists?" Preacher: "Because the Bible says he does." Me: "How do you know the Bible is true?" Preacher:"Because the Bible says it's true" Me: "So you are blindly following a belief that you don't know for sure is unquestionably true?" Preacher: "Ummmmm, well, uhhh..............."
Ir0nF1st924 6 months ago
@Ir0nF1st924 The problem with your scenario is that you are asking a preacher for an answer. Please consider reading for yourself and then decide whether or not you believe. I know that it seems illogical to believe in a God but, when one considers all of the life sustaining elements in play, it is illogical (to me) to not believe in a higher power. People like this pastor polarize Christianity with the rest of the world but, I don't think its supposed to be this way.

2:08 "fark stomach disorders." Ha.

WillToNihilsm 7 months ago
This left-wing strawman of "anti-abortion = Catholic Church" needs to die. The right would never back their words up with the Church's teachings because of their views on war and capital punishment, and the fact that many evangelicals *literally* think the Church is the Antichrist, or the Whore of Babylon. No, it saves you from having to think about *why* anyone would oppose abortion, letting you make up and fight a patently illegal basis - and it is never good not to think, for no end.
IoEstasCedonta 7 months ago

Well, it's Matthew 20:1-16, and it is a PARABLE about how God takes all into Heaven who work to join and be with Him, accept Him - regardless of when they show up, they get the same reward [in the parable it is a denari, in Jesus Christ and salvation it is Heaven - don't grumble about it, whether you accepted Christ early or late in life, the reward is the same]. Now, if we take it to labor and wages, they negotiated for the price - take what you "agreed" - that implies negotiation. Hmmm...

harpo103 11 months ago
I had 1 reason and 1 caveat for that comment. The reason is because Religion already is a huge factor in politics and isn't paying it's share. However, everyone has a right to a voice, even the "people" of the religious right. I'd no sooner take away their right than my own. But until churches are taxed, politicians should treat them the same way they'd treat foreign advice; as advice given by someone who doesn't participate.

That's why they call them *parables.*

It has nothing to do with an actual vineyard or wages.
and I'm not even religious.
TheNamewithnumbers 1 year ago

Solidox2k 1 year ago
The problem with Fox's interpretation: 1 denari was a decent wage for a days work. He paid the guy who worked all day a very fair wage. The complaint was from the guy who put in more work for 1 denari against the guy who worked 1 hour for 1 denari. The parable shows generosity and grace not "I DECIDE WHATS FAIR!"
larrywalkerntbi 1 year ago 58
@larrywalkerntbi - no, it doesnt show generocity and grace, it does, in fact, say "I DECIDE WHAT IS FAIR!". Because if the verse was REALLY about generocity and grace, then EVERYONE would have gotten the same. Nice try, but dead wrong...unless you believe that generocity and grace is only for a select few, while its the same old same old for everyone else...which would pretty much make you a republican.
cosmicforums 1 year ago
@larrywalkerntbi you said 1 denari is a decent wage for a days work.. probably and 8 hour work right? so how come its fair to pay a person who only works for 1 hour 1 denari? wow.. you gave up logic and common sense for your belief...
princerexor 10 months ago
@larrywalkerntbi exactly. It is also an illustration of the Kingdom of Heaven.

RetSquid 8 months ago
@RetSquid it's not an insult. it means the same thing. I like using because most chistians get pissed off. not only do many of them not read their own bibles, they don't know their own religion's history. what you should be insulted by is that not by atheists who use it because they do know what it means.
and what do you mean by "nowadays?" are you just writing that because everything was "better" in the "good ol'days" or do you have numbers?
Harq4LAda 8 months ago
@Harq4LAda
"Nowadays", as in since the Dark Ages or so. It IS an insult and you use it as such to troll for comments, You just said so.
RetSquid 8 months ago
@RetSquid oh,you mean when the xian monks 1st started writing that way to save time, paper, and ink? but that's funny; more people can read and write now than ever could before.
why would you be insulted when you write that you know what it means?it's the same thing! you are another ridiculous xian. and I don't use X to piss xians off but I enjoy using it because it does piss some of them off. and because it's a reminder that most of the vocal xians don't know what they are "fighting" against.
Harq4LAda 8 months ago
@Harq4LAda
Yes, more people are literate now than ever before, so the only reason to write "xian" is to insult Christians. It is very petty of you. It actually demeans YOU, not the Christians you are trying to insult. To me it just displays a fear of writing "Christ", kind of like Dracula and sunlight. :)

@RetSquid that reads like your bible, contradictory and confounding. comprehension is important when reading
Harq4LAda 8 months ago

@RetSquid Ahh, up in arms about a simple contraction. You just use it to derail a conversation. The use of contracts ESPECIALLY here, where you have a character limit, makes perfect sense, and is not any kind of insult.
But go ahead, be thin skinned. You abandon the conversation and dialogue then.

@larrywalkerntbi The parable also shows absolutely no understanding of Human society. If you were to do the same today there would be a riot.

Breakdown916 1 year ago
The Bible was NOT written for any type of political or economical use. It is a spiritual book given to us by God for the sole purpose of our salvation. The 'one denari" quote has nothing to do with workers in earth PEOPLE!!! It is a metaphor for who God saves and when. Example, if a person follows Christ from birth compared to another person who excepts Christ at an old age, they will both receive the same reward. Even though the first person has "work" for Christ much longer then the second.
Breakdown916 1 year ago
A boss can pay a worker anything he wants, the workers agreed to the payment in the first place.
