  • @2100loza No no. 1823 when William Webb Ellis first picked up the ball at a football match and ran with it.

  • im 6'2 305, but its football muscle. where am i playing?

  • @Brockashock sounds like prop

Even that requires a lot of cardio, though

  • this yank is ab out to play rugby.

  • Not according to Wikipedia's history of rugby.

"Historically, no points at all were awarded for a try, the reward being to "try" to score a goal (to kick the ball over the cross bar and between the posts). Modern points scoring was introduced in the late 1880s, and was uniformly accepted by the Home Nations for the 1890/91 season."

  • your shirt says union but your playing league

  • He says a try was originally worth 3 points. It was certainly worth three points for most of the history of the game but originally a try wasn't worth any points, it only won you a shot at goal, hence the name 'try'.

  • 15, 6'0, 192 lbs, 5.1 40 yard dash. What would I play?

  • @sofakingey depends, have you got a good set of hands?

  • @irishjumpandhardstyl Eh, so-so.

  • @sofakingey personally id put u at prop. people r dumb and think that prop's r fat guys. NOT TRUE. props just need to be solid players and strong legs. personally im a prop in college and im 5'9" 210 and run a 4'8" so proping is not about being fat.

  • The Austin Highschool team that plays at Burr Field isn't very good. BEAT THEM SUP

  • why do they plays touch-rugby in the beginning when they are talking about 'normal' rugby?

  • @rowan0605 Silly buggers, warmup.

  • this sounds stupid but how do we know where the try line is? is it the line right before the post?

  • 2:52 is missing.

  • It's just the perfect sport whatever anybody thinks. England and Australia will always excite...uh but I like to think of it as a friendly rivalry that brings many nations together.

  • It's just the perfect sport whatever anybody thinks. England and Australia will always excite...ummm but I like to think of it as a friendly rivalry that brings many nations together.

  • @anoniem02 except he said the early 1900's not the 19th century

  • AWESOME VIDEO !

  • @umblah00

You should start watching Pro level rugby like Super 14 and Heineken cup

It's great to watch and you learn a lot with the omniscient perspective that TV offers.

Fox Soccer Plus carries rugby in the States.Or Fox soccer.tv

I dunno why they don't have a specific rugby chan.

  • One of those schools was Rugby School. Each school had it's own rules but the Rugby code was one of the two codes adopted for the game to be played in public once more. The ban was lifted conditional to codified rules and governance being established.

The other code was what we know today as Association Football or Soccer(from 'asssociation')

Rugby then split into 2 different codes after a disagreement over professionalism.

Rugby League was professional.Rugby Union remained amateur until 1995.

  • The origins of rugby probably lie with the Romans. They played a remarkably similar game,a version of which, called Lelo is still played in Georgia. In the British Isles, since at least Roman times a similar game was played in every town. The North vs South or East vs West of a town would fight over a ball or parcel and the objective was to take it to the far boundary of the village/town/parish.Hundreds of people played and often folk were killed, leading to it's banning. It survived in the schools.

  • thats not actually how rugby was invented people had schools that played games similar and thats where it came from

what he said is a myth. its not true at all

  • Hello everybody. I am brand new to this sport. My friends have encouraged me to start playing and I am trying to learn how to play. If any of you could message me tips and tricks I would greatly appreciate it. I'm an upcoming Junior at the high school I attend. My friends believe I will be a Prop. Thank you!

  • @umblah00

The best way to learn the game is just start playing. Reading about it and watching doesn't teach you to play the game as well as playing does. You'll only understand the theory if you experience it in practice. I started playing a year ago. I started with training for half a year, after the half year of practice I played my first game. I learned more about the game in that first game, then I did in practice.

  • @Paddow

Well... My friends have been teaching me some things and I've been confused about a lot of it. Like, they told me about how you can drop kick and go. After hearing that, I tried kicking the ball only to see it bounce like a dying fish. So, I started reading Wikipedia articles and watching videos on YouTube. After awhile, I got bored and started some kicking practice. I have kicking down and can actually kick it a good height and pretty far.

  • @umblah00

if your oging to play prop I wouldn't worry too much about kicking but building stamina also your neck and back muscles for the scrum and ruck.

  • @Paddow

Yeah, and if you hadn't had that first 6 months of training - you'd be dead right now.

Both are necessary, though 'your mileage may vary'. Don't be so simplistic.

  • @umblah00 represent man! ima prop too. tighthead is the best. u can bore in on the hookers neck and u can also knee both the opposing loose head and opposing hooker in the face.(although i wouldnt suggest it, they WILL hit back). tickle the other prop b4 the engage. it throws him off, making ur engage more powerful. stay low keep ur back flat have fun. FSU! id suggest watching the all black scrum practices on youtube. i found them VERY helpful. good luck

  • no need to get offensive but football games have been played in europe since medieval times but it was not until people started organizing sports that there was different codes and rules for each game, such as rugby football, aussie football, association football, gridiron, gaelic etc. the games were not invented when the unions/federations were founded, rather the union was founded to regulate and organize the games.

  • rugby was early 1800's

  • Guys, stick to the facts... n hows my 7 year old son suppose to watch this... comments such as this and permiscuis girls saying 'flirt now'.. !whats wrong here....

  • :D u all have bad comments but u r all rite

  • Have a look yourself retard, 1863 was when a unified set of rules were written, the game itself was around for hundreds of years before that. Rugby had made it to the other side of the world (new Zealand and Australia) by 1870. It's all there on the Internet a quick google search will show you everything you need. Sharpen up.

  • Soccer was being played in the 1600s rugby since the 1820s. Get a clue.
