My friend, with your stance the way it is, one miss and the toe of your axe will remove just that from your foot. Do it like we do in France my friend! Also google my name to check out my videos and see how real men adventure!
How do you like the axe? I am interested in them but the lack of head weight concerns me. Don't listen to the critics of splitting techniques. Every situation is different. So,to each his own.
No loss in energy, actually more.. as you are focused on the object in the center of the swing, you swing past the center of your body, you are off balance, look at you vid,(the way you move forward), huge loss in energy... as I said, spend a day chainsawing then splitting, you will find it much easier, and less chance of you doing your back in!
Just a small hint, from somone who burns wood for most things .. and likes to split it by hand,...Hot water ,central heating...WHY are you hitting the wood 8 inches from the ground???at home my splitting block is 37 inches high, waist level for all you verticaly challenged out there and 24 inches around.....uhhh YES a tree trunk,Difference is I will cut and split 5 ton in a day,STOP buying the expensive toys and start useing sence , Try it monkey boy, it's so much easier ..lol
Thanks for the hint and for your concern over wasting money on good tools.
;-)
Don't you find that you loose a lot of kinetic advantage from the momentum of the swing tho' - cutting *way* up there - you'd stop the travel far too far into the stroke like that.
Granted, 8 inches is maybe a bit low, but I don't ever cut on more than about 14 to 16 inches.
@stripymccatpuss I agree, it's also bad for your spine. My splitting block is also waist high. And you don't need that much kinetic force to split logs.
Hmm, it sounds like it might be a version of 'Wayfaring Stranger', but I can't remember the version. It's been covered by pretty much everyone at some point.
awesome mate. just ordered mine. looks easy!! haha

WE use a 13 pound head for bigger stuff
and a medium axe for the softer and smaller stuff

Tip, don't wait till the wood is dried out to split it.
B15448 4 years ago
I hate that. The wood i have takes atleast 4 or 5 times, hitting it into the concrete, to get it to split.
salemcripple 4 years ago
Hitting into concrete?? Not too smart. Doesn't your blade hit the concrete after each piece? That's no good for the blade.
