  • the Prophet said "it does not suit" not "women must not show"

  • Alright, even more in favor of hijab being a person choice then. Thank you for the clarification. :)

  • There is so much wrong here I'm not sure where to start..

    The Hijab IS compulsory:

Abu Dawud 32:4092: Narrated Aisha, Ummul Mu'minin: Asma bint Abu Bakr, entered upon the Apostle of Allah while she was wearing thin clothes. The Apostle of Allah turned his attention from her. He said: O Asma', when a woman reaches the age of menstruation, it does not suit her that she displays her parts of body except this and this, and he pointed to her face and hands.

  • The following Hadith gives an idea as to the purpose of the Hijab. It is not of modesty. It is of concealment of identity, specifically when going to pee. If the face is not covered, there is no concealment of identity.

Bukhari V1B4N148: Narrated 'Aisha: The wives of the Prophet used to go to Al-Manasi, a vast open place (near Baqia at Medina) to answer the call of nature at night. 'Umar used to say to the Prophet "Let your wives be veiled," but Allah's Apostle did not do so. [cont'd]

  • One night Sauda bint Zam'a the wife of the Prophet went out at 'Isha' time and she was a tall lady. 'Umar addressed her and said, "I have recognized you, O Sauda." He said so, as he desired eagerly that the verses of Al-Hijab (the observing of veils by the Muslim women) may be revealed. So Allah revealed the verses of "Al-Hijab" (A complete body cover excluding the eyes).

  • Muhammad was a filthy man who bathed in water with blood and dead dogs in it, and had fleas. Here are some fun videos on the topic:

  • It is somewhat ironic that you try to downplay the violence of Muhammad by comparing him to a military commander. He was supposed to be (according to Islam) a prophet first and foremost. You cannot find a single Judeo-Christian prophet who behaved as barbarously as he did. (This all, of course, is well beyond the fact that commanded, continued, barbarous, ruthless violence is prevalent throughout Islam).

  • Muhammad's military exploits were largely offensive. Before he died, he sent out many threatening letters to other empires outside the Arabian peninsula.

  • Mn, I think it's more relevant to say that some of the first Muslims claimed the hijab was compulsory - the Koran never did, it only calls for modest dress. As you should know, the Koran is considered the ultimate authority, with the hadith being changed and approved based upon what the Koran calls for. During the 6th century in Arabia, long clothing and a headscarf was considered 'modest', and thus as a cultural facet, that style stuck. In modern times, however, there are some imams who...

  • .. recommend dressing in what is considered a modest fashion for the area you live in. For example, 3/4 sleeve t-shirts and slacks in the United states.

  • Very good :) i understood the way how you convey the message ... keep up the good work !

  • I'm just trying to be fair about these things and to go against the lies which too many Westerners are told about Islam. :)

  • Thats nice of you ... i really appreciate your efforts .. it is rare to find wise people like you actually you are so an excepetional ... good luck :)

  • yaserkhan . please stop arguing her. that makes the perpose of this viseo shadowed.

expect to hear some different and some times incorrect info about islam , when muslim/nonmuslim talk about islam. just bear it. and her intension is good. so let it go.

  • also (@ ~4.30) you say 'he never claimed to be a "man of peace" in the same sense as Jesus Christ or Siddartha'. the quran says:

    (021:107)

And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.

from an islamic perspective, peace is not manifested as absence of violence. instead, peace is the condition which exists in the absence of oppression. therefore, muslims are commanded to strive for justice.

    (002:217)

Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter.

  • From the understanding of "peace" of most Westerners, he was violent. That's why I say 'in the same sense as...'. Muhammad was different from Jesus Christ and Siddartha. Jesus and Siddartha were completely opposed to war - Muhammad realized that war was not always avoidable, so he tried to prevent it as much as possible.

It is very late for me and I should be in bed now, so what I'm trying to say may not be clear. I hope you understand.

  • i agree with you completely. i was only elaborating on the difference in understanding of 'peace'.

  • Ah, good. I'm sorry if I've seemed a bit defensive in some of my comments. I've been getting some antagonistic notes as a result of my current video posts. Thank you for your understanding.

  • i'm sorry. please go ahead and catch your sleep. we can continue our discussion at another hour. peace.

  • yaserkhan . please stop arguing her. that makes the perpose of this viseo shadowed.

  • Please, activemuslim, don't worry about this. If you read our short discussion you'll see we worked it out fine - he wasn't arguing with me, he was just trying to clarify something. I showed that I understand it, so it's all worked out now. :)

  • (@ ~4.30) you say "before he (Muhammad) wrote the Koran". i understand that as a nonmuslim you see him as the author of the quran. still, he could neither read nor write. he would recite the quran after it was revealed to him and scribes would write it down. he only conveyed the message

    (010:015)

Say, [O Muhammad], "It is not for me to change it (the Qur'an) on my own accord. I only follow what is revealed to me. Indeed I fear, if I should disobey my Lord, the punishment of a tremendous Day."

  • Ah. Hmn. Please understand, I am not trying to argue with this statement. I'm going by a completely historical viewpoint on this. According to historical records, Muhammad could read and write quite well, which makes sense considering he was a merchant in a society where men were expected to be literate. Besides, even if, theoretically, he didn't write it, it still went through the filter of his own mind.

  • err. sources?

in fact a very very small minority of arabs could read and write. this can be confirmed from any historical sources. the arab society was based on an oral tradition. spoken word was greatly valued. the arabic script was deficient at the time and only standardized later.

and the prophet was a shepard. he tended his uncle's goat. he only accompanied a trade caravan to syria as a young boy. his next encounter was leading khadija's trade caravan when he was 25.

  • in addition to the actions mentioned (@ ~3.30) the prophet (peace be upon him) regularly clipped his nails, combed his hair, removed pubic hair, actively maintained fresh breath (he avoided garlic and onions for this reason), he applied perfume, wore clean clothes, differentiated between actions of the right hand (shaking hands when greeting, eating food, etc.) and the left hand (covering the mouth when sneezing, blowing nose, etc.).

  • Wow

    great vid

    and a word of truth

    Thanks (from a muslim)
