@SlayerMegadeth86 You're right, create is the wrong word, but they (along with Samael and some others) are the ones who made the genre popular enough to merit emulation.
Take Trym, Kollias, Frost or Nick Barker, like Hellhammer they have been drumming for years, and have built up immense skill, it's a fact, some jealous idiot won't convince me otherwise.
Hellhammer just happens to be a very tight and talented musician, but he plays in the studio as he does live, him and his drums.
@Lenourous You really are an idiot....If anything, the bands that Hellhammer plays in speed their shit up live. Seeing him play live multiple times, I can say that for fact. Maybe his studio work is triggered sometimes, but that's not a drum machine. When you play 5-6 hours a day in over 30 bands since at least 1985 you develope what is called skill. Pure fucking skill
@shoe800 only the bass drums were triggered on ordo ad chao, apparently...the guy's a genius, no doubt about it...and guys, don't feed the trolls...they are either ignorant or just liars to say that crap about hellhammer, either way they're losers who need to get out more if they just bullshit on youtube videos all the time...
I really hope Hellhammer's on the next mezzerschmitt album, whenever that eventually surfaces...
@Lenourous you are a fucking retard, learn your facts wortless shitstain ;) in the dimmu borgir bonus material dvd, you see him play in studio so fuck you ;)
@TheMinos21 - is it really post-black metal? Everyone says Darkthrone & Burzum created BM, but almost none remembers about the impact of Thorns' demos - this guy was the first to play prolongated riffs on tremolos, so different at that time from anything else - and then everyone copied it - Vikernes, guys from The 3rd and the Mortal, Satyricon, also Emperor. Snorre was very influential with '89 and '90 demos as Stigma Diabolicum...
@MrAniroe Venom is credited with creating black metal (and coining the term) Emperor/Cradle/Dimmu/Darkthrone are credited with creating the 2nd wave in 1990.
Since then it's just been evo-devo and exploring neighboring genres to acquire newer sounds. I wouldn't call this post-anything.
@MultiUniv3rsal Venom, Celtic Frost and so on - they were still immersed in trash metal style. Though Venom coined the term, I believe what Norwegians did was actually the most crucial step. I remember first Darkthrone release "Soulside..." in death metal genre and the way I was shocked after release of "A blaze...". Notice that Thorns made this music in late 80' and beginning of 90' (as Stigma Diabolicum and Grymyrk), so it is nothing post-bla, it is rooted in the first wave: Darkthrone, Burzum
@MrAniroe I agree 100% that the second wave is essentially where what we know today as black metal came from.
Although there were some early-comers that did have the sound, like Bathory and Mayhem. I just don't think that it culminated into it's own genre until albums like Nightside Eclipse and Stormblast came out refining the sound once and for all. (to be fair, I'm not a huge fan of low-production like darkthrone, etc.)

Thorns said he did touch Hellhammer's drumming up with Pro Tools. So it isn't all real, but he's still a beast on this album.
