@alkleiza1995 it's all in the rocking motion of the right wrist, plus interspersing dead notes, slides and if you're really badass, harmonics with the left. At the end of the day it takes a lot of practice to get even close to this sort of speed and competence.

If you look up "Best Bassist in the world", there's a video around the top 5 results with the description "I don't know who this guy is, bla, bla, bla..."

The guy who put this up, stood next to Mark King in a Music Store and filmed him, not even knowing who he is...and the comments in this video are ridiculous. They talk about King like he's a lame beginner and he probably is some weird hobo and stuff....GET THEM BITCHES!

To begin with the guy in that video is playing with his thumb pointing downwards - Mark plays with his thumb pointing upwards. Mark also wears tape around his thumb and has his bass higher up. He looks kind of similar to Mark in his face when he's playing but that's literally it, lol. :)

@TheHeavymetal80 It's not his signature bass at all. Mark's signature basses are Alembics, Jaydees, a Fender Jazz briefly in the 90s and more recently Status Graphites. That bass on the video is none of those. And about the style of playing: you don't think Mark inspired anyone to play in his style? Also that tapping on the string with the index and middle finger, Mark never does that. Also on the video, the guys thumb is pointing down...and I see no tape on there either.

@pentacleofvenus The thing on his thumb is a piece of electrical tape. It's basically to stop the skin on his thumb from splitting open when hitting the strings. In the early days he used to have huge issues with the side of his thumb splitting.

In the USA we have Larry Graham, in the great UK, you have Mark King. I had the pleasure of seeing Level 42 reunion tour in Glenside, Pa in June and Mark King was just awesome!! Mike Lindup and the band was great. Mark King to me is the Larry Graham of The UK. They're my TOP favorites!!
