  • Nice way to teach ground balls straight to the pitcher.

  • @BobCHighland: this teaches one-hop ground-balls through the infield by hitting the top 1/3 of the ball and driving through it...mistakes will strike the middle of the ball driving it into the gaps. This is what Jack Clark talks about and him being around the St. Louis Cardinals clubhouse so much, he says Pujols works on just that. The bottom line is being short to the ball. If you need more clarification, I'd love to chat...please email me through Swing Smarter dot com

  • @teamre30 Sorry dude. Pujols working on hitting ground balls is pretty ridiculous. "Albert, the ground ball you hit was AWESOME!!!, man was it a great hit ground ball !!! " That conversation has never happened in his entire life and never will. Pujols hits by keeping his bat in plane with the ball and driving it out, way out. Suggesting or teaching to hit ground balls to anyone is just crazy.

  • @BobCHighland One hop ground balls through the infield is different than the groundball you're talking about...this drills is a small part of how I teach hitting...I teach the Down & Through system...yes you must get on plane but not until you're out in front of the plate...getting on plane sooner slows down bat speed. I'd love to chat with you, please shoot me an email at Swing Smarter dot com and leave your phone number and I'd be happy to explain :)

  • @t30 I dont mind chatting with you at some point. Since you brought up Pujols, I have never seen him hit down and through. A-rod, Ramirez, and countless other hitters do not swing down and through so I just see you teaching something successfull hitters never do. While I get the hopper thing here in theory, it seems rather pointless. Since you are hitting out of plane the hit must be so precise and further complicated as shown in your own video in a game the ball would hit 6-15ft into grass.

  • @teamre30 Cont'd: Since you are swinging out of plane the margin of error is so great the likely hood of limited practice of this technique and the greater margin would not be more valuable then going for a power hit which was practiced 1000% more over the course of years and with less margin of error in the swing.

I bet if you put the T on the plate on a real field and ball location and the practiicality if this drill would be widely apparent as bad technique at best, ridiculous at worst.

  • @BobCHighland: I see your point, however looking closely at hitters like Pujols and Lance Berkman for the Astros, they come knob DOWN keeping the barrel up until contact, then it drops below the hands and they swing through. Martial Artists do this when breaking boards and bricks. There are gaps in your understanding of my teaching, so when we talk those will iron out. My experience playing under College World Series Champion AND NCAA Hall of Fame coaches has molded my way of hitting.

  • @BobCHighland Like I said about the "hopper" GB thing you've poo-poo'ed without any chance to understand, came from my meeting with Jack Clark the Fall of 2009, coming out of "his" mouth, he said this is Pujols' strategy during most at bats...he should know because he's talked with Pujols in the Cardinals clubhouse. Not to mention, these great hitters have "it" written into their DNA code, not to mention 2 of the 3 hitters were a little HGH and steroid happy...that makes things easier...
