P.S. I saw a special feature on the DVD. Dan Aykroyd said that it was supposed to be implied that the reason behind the car's power is how Elwood kept it in that room with the electrical voltage outside his flophouse. The car just absorbed that power.
Watch the feature to understand. It's pretty long I think, though.
@The45Falcon in the sequal, he had to take on more of a leader form since between the original and the sequal, John Bellushi died and he was the leader
Elwood rocks!!! Both of them do! I love Jake but I love Elwood more mainly because he's such a badass crazy driver!! xD
I was let down by the sequel. Elwood put on weight and wasn't laid back and cool like here. Instead he was the patronizing leader and overprotective father figure of Buster, which to be honest I thought was very cute. But on the other half of Elwood, his whole reputation was ruined. And it just wasn't the same without John Belushi. He and Danny ARE the Blues Brothers!!
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant. It's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks. It's the model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Ever since I was little, I would always ask my mother if I could go to the same driving school as Elwood! XD Haha,he kicks butt with his major driving skills!
I brought my three year old sister to see this movie in 1980. I was 26. She loved the scene which had the dialogue "My own brother comes to pick me up in a Police Car. " She cracked up.
an indianapolis dj name of travis bell built his own blues mobile and went to the same mall and reshot his own version of the scene...he also took some of the tiles from the floor the original bluesmobile burnt out on....the mall has been abandoned since the movie and was scheduled to be torn down...travis also found and restored the original general lee..Lee 1
That's the 95th Street bridge on the East Side of Chicago. You can see Calumet Fisheries behind Elwood's head at the beginning of the scene. That fish shack is on the south side of the street, so the car would have been facing away from the bridge when that was shot. One of those movie tricks to make the scene more colorful. I met the manager of Calumet Fisheries, who witnessed the stunt. She said they used a ramp.
@OG4LYFEYungD haha yeah and plus @counterclockwise, if you ment that exact car from that jump, you cant buy it becuase it was either destroyed in the jump scene, or it was used until the end and either way it was destroyed
too bad the car falls apart later on in the movie, even though surviving just about everything you can throw at it; psycho exes, Nazis, police and one hell of a ride through a mall.
Anybody know how many dodge Monacos were used in this movie? Nobody seems to know, I don't think this one survived the jump but you never know, maybe they fixed it then kept on rolling..i would love to hear any behind the scenes info about the cars in blues brothers...thanx
Some of the cars used for the regular driving scenes had 360s or 400s. They only used the 440 models for "jump" cars. The car that Elwood is driving after the jump probably had a 360. They would have definitely used a 440 for the bridge jump, or a model. I forgot how they did it.
It actually is on the soundtrack. It's track number 1, "She Caught The Katy." Originally written by Taj Mahal and Yank Rachell, but performed by the Blues Brothers Band in the movie, with Jake Blues(John Belushi)doing vocals.
The greatest part about his voice is that it's not that hard to imitate! I can already do the whole bit where he's talking about the car! "It's got a cop motor, 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspension, cop shocks, it's a model made before catalytic convertors so it'll run good on regular gas." It's a classic for sure!
