"why, why do you want my number?" most times they can't come up with a good enough reason unless they admit they have no friends. All else fails and you dont want to be blunt with them just say you dont like to have a lot of numbers in your phone. Keep chatting be polite or whatever just don't give out your number or take theirs. simple

This is an easy way... Slide your hand in your pocket while you chat and switch your phone off, then when they ask for your number say your battery is dead and you don't know your number because it's a new number you have not memorised yet. I've had my number for 8 months and I still don't know it, lol. Then if they give you their number on a piece of paper you can easily "lose" it in a bin

wht u do is when they tell you to call them call another number, and be like sorry wrongnumber. then tell the other person you got the wrong number and if they can call you instead.

Or, you could be a honest human being and tell then you don't want their phone number. Why would you care about hurting feeling of someone you don't like?

All you do is act really frustrated and tell them that your phone isn't getting any service and that it pisses you off that you almost never get any service in that area, you'll call them as soon as you can get any bars. To avoid the next possible backfire, make sure to turn your ringtone volume all the way off so that the next incoming call wont expose your "no service" story.

i actually do...

sometimes i call my cell using my friend's cell so we both get each others number in one shot, or my friend call his/her cell using mine, same thing.
