This is one of those extremely rare times when the live version beats the album version. The English language needs to invent several new words just to describe the sheer and raw emotions this song stirs up and forces you to confront. Absolutely priceless, timeless and perfect. Thank you Tool for reinforcing my faith in music and my own humanity. .
This is the deepest song I know. I get something new everytime I hear it as well. It could be about internal conflict, or just simply being pushed around in a relationship of any kind. I never want to see that place again. The song revisits that place. Then they restructured it to make even more powerful in the live version.
the most powerful lyrics written about fighting with your conflicted consciousness..dont hate that part of you.dont pushit away from you..because that fragment is you.love it.because you are the sum of parts. take every mistake as a learning experience.to learn yourself .
tool is definitly one of the most talented bands that has ever lived. only 4 members. maynards voice is extremely soothing and danny careys intricate drumming pulls every song together. this is truely a work of musical art.
Tool came thru Hawaii in January. I couldn't go cause I was recovering from knee surgery but the entire show (except the band) was staying at the Hilton hotel in Waikiki, where my wife works. She got one of the roadies to have the whole band sign my Salival box set! Each one signed on their picture and Adam evenwrote to Jeremy.

after being the poor soul who didnt own salival, i am proud to say i finally found it in a half price book store with both the cd and dvd intact for 50 dollars. best money ever spent
I dont know if it's a good or bad thing to know that there will be no other song that can lift my spirit as much as this one does... All I know is that I'm truly grateful to have been able to experiece this piece of divine for over 10 years now.
In my opinion, unless you are a Youtube partner (or whatever it is that seems to enable some people to upload 11+ minute videos), you should not put this song up here.
Conversely, the majority of this song can be heard and the people who like it enough will find the video response with includes the second part, which is an integral part of the overall experience. I find it hard to believe that some people are so thick, they can't find it, but since that's reality, you gotta adjust for it...
Every time I listen to this song, it holds a different meaning to me. I wish I could go inside Maynard's mind and catch a glimpse of what goes through it as he writes his lyrics. Just astounding.
personally, i find that the constant theme to any Tool song is hope. The hope of healing, growing, ascending to a higher state of mind and moving forward. and so, despite some disturbing lyrics in their songs, i feel that Tool is one of the most positive forces in music, if not THE most positive one. No "i hate God", no "i hate the world and myself" ...well mabye a line or two about something like that but it's to prove a point. Rockon Tool, rock on.
After some really tense mood, this song is healing, its the the only song that I guess I have and will play in my study, and for that matter, after i quit all dope an intoxicants this has become my substitute. I don't think you realise the meaning of the song in a doped state.
This song got me into drugs. I smoked my first joint with this song playing and was immediately obsessed with altered states of mind. I know it sounds lame and cliché, but it's true - this song opened my mind beyond comprehension. Once a misanthropic, self-loathing, hateful self-imposed loner, I became a sociable, loving and caring being. Things will still piss me off, and I'll not hold back in voicing my dislike for those things, but since then I've found beauty in life.
@TalonWolf The fact that you're thanking Tool for taking up drugs...? And the fact that you're looking for attention in the comments section over this feat you seem to be praising? Why else?
@ericleb01 I don't see how it can be considered 'attention seeking' to comment on how this song literally changed my life for the better. It was appraisal for this band. I never even paid attention to music until this song and that joint, and it has since spawned an obession over the unlimited possibilities surrounding music and brought a better perception of life.
I thought the whole point of a comments section was to comment about the video or song. How misguided I must be.
@ericleb01 On another note, I believe I was meant to erase the "got me into drugs" bit because it wasn't accurate/didn't sound right. Rewrote the comment, but must have left it in by accident @_@
Every time I listen to this song I am blown away by it. Then at the end I hear the crowd and remember that it's recorded live. How the hell did they do that without hours in the studio to prefect the sound?!?
Am i the only one that experiences a new, deeper, more powerful connection with this song every time they listen to it? Words can't describe what this song and the rest of Tool's songs have done for me...
@billum71 You're not alone, trust me. I've got the lyrics to "Right in Two" tattooed across my back. Whole back. Whole song. Music, wait..REAL music, is life changing. Thanks for uploading this.
when i speak of bands like f.e. tool (or NIN) ... sometimes i say: "The day i discovered Tool (and NIN also), was the "Day i discovered music, finally." ;-)
("The day the world went away" and "Looking forward to joining you, finally".)
@billum71 i completely agree and understand what your saying. this song, third eye, reflection, and no quarter are my fav songs to meditate to. simply because the way the instruments are played with such soul and spirit, i dan literally feel it. and i am a guitar and drum player. so i feel a very deep connection to both.
Song interpretation is relative, I realize. This one parallels pregnancy to me. Not pro-life or pro-choice or anything like that....just..pregnancy. No, I'm not pregnant...and haven't ever been, so it's not a hormonal causation. Maybe it's the crying baby sound effect on Aenima that planted that seed. It's actually not the lyrics so much either, more the swells of melody. Is that strange?
Wow... if you don't listen to the second part of this song, then you honestly have mental issues..... (114,111 views vid 1 and like 38k on the second...)
I have to admit, I like this version just a little more than the original. Either way, the music this band produces is beyond what any words can ever describe. It's magical.
Always loved Justin's bass line in this song, so hypnotizing. Reminds me of the long walks in the woods on snowy winter nights of my high school days, listening to this deep ass music in the quiet and cold.
i know that you internet people dont know, or don't care but I have cerebral palsy and tool has touched me and my life in very deep and profound way... and it's just nice to see that others feel the same way i do
this song is BEAUTIFUL! This version of the song reaches down to the depths of my very being and soul. It flows through my whole body and makes me feel amazing and i feel every emotion coming from this song.
@giasmom666 it definitely reaches a level of connection to ones emotions that i didn't think possible, didn't realize the studio version could be topped. then i discovered salival, so awesome :)
The music comes first, and the emotion comes from that music. Sounds, whether they are language or music (or even just bird calls) are just vibrations. Music can carry just as much meaning as spoken word in this regard, and what drives these lyrics more than anything is MJK's interpretation of the sounds the Adam, Justin, and Danny are able to produce. Think of the lyrics to a Tool song, even this song. Sure they are powerful, and sure they hold meaning, but it's extremely amplified w/ music.
I would advise also watching the ending of this song. This video has four times as many views as Part 2. This song is nothing without the epic ending.
@elmospimp1515 Tool on itunes would be a contradictory of what they stand for! They are keeping everything theirs and therefore keep them from being screwed out of any money
@elmospimp1515 Tool doesn't let there music on to itunes, it is a thing they do on purpose, a choice, I agree they are good enough, but they want you to by the albums in full and listen to them through not just song by song, one album plays like one extremely long song as far as i know.
@elmospimp1515 WHY YOU WOULDNT WANT TO OWN THE ACTUAL CDS WITH ALL THE AWESOME ARTWORK IS BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION AND FYI THEY CHOOSE NOT TO BE ON ITUNES!
@thestarlajune dude you have to relize that some of us are still in our teenage years, meaning no auctial income. i would and im sure he would too completly buy cd's but i/him dont have any money.
it just as Maynard says..the lyrics are an interpretation of the music...Im pretty sure the musicians actually spend more of the time in the studio together..
My favorite '][' {{}} {{}} [[_ song of all time, totally destroys the album version of Pushit and brings their music to a whole new level. Listening to the live masterpiece gives the song so much more emotion.
People seem to focus too much on MJK, but we must keep in mind that Tool is a collective mind that combines their minds to make the music. MJK obviously plays an important role but Danny, Justin, and Adam are equally important in the musical genius that it Tool.
@billum71 MJK also stated that it begins with the SOUNDS first, put forth by the band. and he bases his lyrics off of what they create and what feeling they evoke.
@billum71 I would argue that Danny is probably even more well regarded in his field than MJK is in his, which helps to prove how much talent is in the band.
Tool is the greatest band since Led Zepplin. Both those groups could really open up your mind and spirit and take you to amazing places. APC & Pusifer do the same thing. Long live MJK - he is a master of mind and music!!!
buying a used copy of an album/box set thats been out of production for over a decade doesnt support the band. How does paying some asshole over 3 times retail support the band? ive bought all of their albums (some twice since ive actually played them out) and have bought a vinyl and have the box set (vhs) but I still download it since 90% of my listening to music is digital (computer ipod) and ripping the music just involves an extra step.
@Bauermayers You really need to shut the fuck up. If anything You Tube turns people onto music they normally would not get to listen to. Also you cannot buy Salvial in regular retail stores anymore!
@PearlJammer07 You shut the fuck up. I'm not against uploading this kind of stuff here you idiot. I was just pointing out how ironic is someone say things like "don't pirate, buy the record" and yet upload it here.
i agree with you here. when you respect their work and like the music you should buy it. tool are not commercial bitches like other bands are. the give in all their effort, talent and soul into their music. thats what why it sounds so amazing.
@mowmowclub2 tools intention is for you to come up w/ your own interpretation. they dont want you to worry about what it means to them. all tool songs have different meanings. there are no rules/limitations on their art.
Torrenting just proves your too fat to get off your lazy ass to go to the store or better yet, go on ebay and all you need to do is walk 2 ft to your mail box
For those 7 people who as of now have given this song a thumbs down, I hereby challenge you to find one group of artists that have given this much to the art of music and have expressed all of their talents, whether melodic or lyrically poetic, in such a coherent, meaningful, vivid and profound manner only for your enjoyment.
ever notice how every tool video's comments are people arguing. like seriously every fucking one. i have nothing further, btw if you clicked dislike on this i hope you get curb stomped outside of a three days grace show.
@ysgaisyih stop boi, anyh time I look at the comments on tool Its as you described.........its just stupid, if you know tool, then you know you should take your own meaning from the tunes, not bicker like children over frivolous meanings
If i'm not mistaken, Maynard himself has said that it does not matter if the music is "pirated," all that matters is the music is being listened too. So FUCK OFF and do what you need to do to listen to the music!!!!!
I'm seeing them Jan, 25. ahh..aaah...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH! *dies of happiness*

@elmospimp1515 WHY YOU WOULDNT WANT TO OWN THE ACTUAL CDS WITH ALL THE AWESOME ARTWORK IS BEYOND MY COMPREHENSION AND FYI THEY CHOOSE NOT TO BE ON ITUNES!
thestarlajune 1 year ago
@thestarlajune dude you have to relize that some of us are still in our teenage years, meaning no auctial income. i would and im sure he would too completly buy cd's but i/him dont have any money.
ShroomJGV 1 year ago
it just as Maynard says..the lyrics are an interpretation of the music...Im pretty sure the musicians actually spend more of the time in the studio together..

MJK obviously plays an important role but Danny, Justin, and Adam are equally important in the musical genius that it Tool.
billum71 1 year ago 72
@billum71 Most definately! I think the band took a major step forward when Justin joined, and I've always loved Adam and Danny's flow together.
JerFhilm 1 year ago
@billum71 I agree but I must also admit, much of my attention is on DC and MJK.

@billum71 I am so glad that you said this. Maynard is amazing, but Tool wouldn't be so dynamic and epic of a band if it weren't for everyone...

@billum71 MJK also stated that it begins with the SOUNDS first, put forth by the band. and he bases his lyrics off of what they create and what feeling they evoke.
Aurelius27x 1 year ago
@billum71 sure are. maynard said that he is only 1/4 of this band. he wants to make sure he is not the only one getting attention
parasiticlittletick 1 year ago
@billum71 I would argue that Danny is probably even more well regarded in his field than MJK is in his, which helps to prove how much talent is in the band.
AdMordem 1 year ago

@billum71 I can't speak for all pirates, but I bought the whole Tool discography after downloading Ænima.
Btw, did Tool authorize you to upload their stuff here?
Bauermayers 1 year ago
@Bauermayers You really need to shut the fuck up. If anything You Tube turns people onto music they normally would not get to listen to. Also you cannot buy Salvial in regular retail stores anymore!
PearlJammer07 1 year ago
@PearlJammer07 You shut the fuck up. I'm not against uploading this kind of stuff here you idiot. I was just pointing out how ironic is someone say things like "don't pirate, buy the record" and yet upload it here.
Bauermayers 1 year ago
I pirated Tool's discography and bought it. Spare me from judgement~~~

THAT WAS FUCKING AWESOME!
INTERPOLFAN17 1 year ago
i agree with you here. when you respect their work and like the music you should buy it. tool are not commercial bitches like other bands are. the give in all their effort, talent and soul into their music. thats what why it sounds so amazing.

if i was in tool, or any other band, id care more about poeple hearing my stuff than making money.

mowmowclub2 1 year ago
@mowmowclub2 tools intention is for you to come up w/ your own interpretation. they dont want you to worry about what it means to them. all tool songs have different meanings. there are no rules/limitations on their art.
