This is a small Goanna, very young, when we go west we find them so large they are scary, they travel the same path most days & generally steel eggs & chicks from birds nest, when a goanna is startled it will look for the first thing to climb, that could be you standing there, the claws dig in deep & the infections start from there, treat them with respect.
