  • short lesson my ass

  • Comment removed

  • Ok yh probably n yh will do thanks for your time

  • Ok uh I tried that and it works but what if I want a more classical grip? Is it the same?

  • @charliehustlenflow I think maybe you are pulling the finger too far down...try making it a smaller motion with the pull off finger.

  • How do you stop other strings from sounding with pull offs? Should I try to stop at the next string sort of like a rest stroke?

  • @charliehustlenflow I find that the bottom of the index finger on the fretting hand is touching the next string down and keeping it from ringing.

  • when i put second finger no sound

  • but my guitar just dies even with amp why?

  • @anshulkamboj You have yo HAMMER-ON (get it?) the fret. You have to prss down hard and fast.... That's why it's called a HAMMER on

  • please tell me,how to do a 9h7?

  • @whatcanidoiloveyou that would be a pull off if you are going that direction.

  • @premiermusic thank u for ur replying, but can u please go to this video /watch?v=65UWJCDqTA0&feature=BFa&list=PL59E5EB94AE95F693&lf=mh_lolz and watch 00:46,he did a 9^7,i don't think he did a pull off motion, but still have two sounds,i appreciate that

  • Your video went viral on Managua

  • @yattrich49w cool! Can you send me a link?

  • I Love this guy. Respect bro<3

  • omfg!! i love you!!! i learned so much with this!!!!

  • @jaydee1389 hehe...thanks! )

  • @premiermusic how can i send you a private message??

  • @jaydee1389 go to markweinguitarlessons (dot) com and select "contact" at the bottom of the menu on the left to email me.

  • Thanks man!

  • @thegeek1411 no problem! Glad you dug it!

  • This video was helpful like a lot Thanks man Good video !

  • @SuperDeerdance No problem! I'm glad it helped!

  • i think i just pulled a muscle in my pinky o.o

  • Taught me to hammer on and pull off perfectly in 8 minutes; thank you!

  • I have hammers down, but pull offs are giving me tons of trouble, the timing and the amt of movement is off, ie i'm hitting other strings while pulling off.

  • thank you i learned from your video ive been looking up hammer on videos and idk, i just didnt understand but i saw ur vid and im like ohhhhh mkay i get it. lol so yeah thanks

  • nice! you provide more extra tips than the books.

  • Thx Dude! :D

  • But when I play the first note by actually strumming, then press my finger on it again it just stops... Any more explanation?

  • @animefreak039 your probably using an acoustic guitar . but if your not ? just use a little distortion so that everything turns out amplified .

  • @1packora Yeah i got it now, thanks though :)

  • Very informative! Thank you!

The music I'm trying to follow is Stairway to Heaven, and is just a tad more sophisticated than I am used to. It asked me to hammer-on, and WOA! I didn't know what that is. Your video did just the trick. I learned what I needed to do, and how. Thanks again!

  • @UkeGirl100 Awesome! I'm glad i was able to help!

  • OK, Pull Offs on one string are do-able.

    What about across multiple strings?

Do I lift all my fings and set them on the next string at the same time or is it more of a rolling motion. Where can I see a demonstration.

    Thanks

  • lets say you were hammering 3 -4... Do you have to pick the 3 again after you've done one set of 3 -4 or can you do 3 -4-3-4 without picking the 3 again?

  • @Maestro1741 either way would be a good exercise...if you can do can you do 3 -4-3-4 without picking the 3 you'd have the technique down really well.

  • well my fingers are cripled they move inwards :(

  • I picked up hammer ons fine but I can't do pull offs at all.

  • thanks

  • Thanks :) this helped a lot :D the problem I have is that sometimes it's hard to play notes with my pinky because my hands are small compared to most people..... -__-

  • 9 people can´t do this.

  • Ok i try to do it but when i take my finger off or put it back on the string the string stops.

  • Thank you!.

  • forgot to say on my last comment that its my pinky i cant get hammer ons to sound on those strings.

  • i can do it but i realy seem to struggle with hammer ons and pulls offs on the base strings E A and D i just cant get em to sound on those up and down the fet board anywere pull offs arnt too bad hammer ons i just cant seem to get em to sound.

any tips would be greatl appreciated thanks.

  • @AsmileyFish a lot of it is regular repetition over time...you need to build strength in the hand to do things that you don't normally need to do. I think a lot of folks watch this lesson, try the exercise and then get discouraged when they can't get it down right off the bat but with any new technique or physical change to how you play it really takes a few weeks of regular practice for it to become a part of your ability to play....

  • @premiermusic

thanks for the information could you also pls adivse me whats the best way to position my hand and thumb pls? i mean is it ok to have your thumb curled over the top or should i keep it behind the neck?

  • @AsmileyFish for this you should try and keep it behind the neck...if you watch the video you'll see that my thumb is centered on the back of the neck pointing at the ceiling and my fingers are in line with the string....even when I sit with the guitar it is on a strap and positioned at about a 45 degree angle which places the strings in line with how I would naturally hold my fingers....

  • thanks for the info, it really helped me out in my guitar class project :D

  • Do i need any special settings for my guitar, like turn up gain, use diff pick ups or certain amp settings, or do i just have to smash my fingers down on the frets as hard as i can?

  • thank you soooo much :)

i was just reading how to do it and it made no sense. this helped a lot :)

  • hammer onns are so easy but man pull offs are very hard..my middle finger takes out the noice of the index finger when i play a note with my index finger..goign to practice though...pratice makes **PERFECT**

  • how do you get the hammer on's not to fade. like ill play a note hammer on it and you can barely hear it.

  • my pinky is too weak

  • @pdegraz you'll get it...it just takes time and repetition...and a little patience. :)

  • @pdegraz A trick to getting the pinky's note to be louder is to make sure the middle finger's or ring finger's hammer-on to be nice and solid prior to the pinky's hammer-on. This takes a little pressure off of trying to slam your pinky down on the string in hopes of making that note loud.

  • short? its like 8 minutes

  • @angusyoungashweenie9 short for me I guess :)

  • This helped me a lot, thanks

  • This works with an acoustic guitar to right?

  • @Esjar207 you bet. Any fretted instrument....

  • i cant make it on my acoustic guitar (hammer on) and i really need it for a song... Korn - blind ... when i use the fingers the sound i get after it is REALLY low and i cant hear it...

  • Great instructions!!! Thanks! BobbyCrispy needs to get you to show him how to "Teach" someone who is just learning....

  • great vid mate... how many minutes a day do u recommend I should do these exercises?

  • @allanonthecouch Thanks! Even if you just run them 5-10 minutes a day as a warm up for a couple of weeks I think you'll get pretty good results. Just do them slowly, in time and make sure that the volume stays consistent between notes!

  • bobbycrispy cant teach worth a shit..ur much better at teaching this

  • @AllThatRemainz777 Who is bobbycrispy? And thanks :)

  • @premiermusic the guy who has 328k views for a 2min video..really showing nothing

  • @AllThatRemainz777 I'll have to check him out..apparently I'm doing something wrong :)

  • @Maxmetallika Thanks for the tip. I've been practicing a lot. The 6th string is very hard, but I'm getting better.

  • Hey man, I'd like to ask if there is any difference on the acoustic guitar. I'm having an extremely hard trouble working with hammer-on and pull-offs on my acoustic.

I was originally trying to do the C Chromatic scale with hammer-ons and pulls-offs but I just can't get past 2 hammer-ons on any string before the sound fading away completely, and pull-offs just don't sound normal. I end up hitting the string on the bottom or it sounds muffled.

  • @SalokinX not really other than you probably have heavier strings and need to use more force. Also, are you playing on nylon or steel strings?

  • @premiermusic Steel. I can't manage any more force... I was thinking that maybe acoustic guitar aren't supposed to be hammered-on more than twice, since the notes fade away much faster than electric, but I'm not sure.

  • do hammer ons work without an amp?

because i'm trying this without one, and i barely get a sound when i put on the second finger

  • thankyouthankyouthankyou so much! its such a simple thing to do but after looking at so many pages and video and actually asking peopple in person you're the only person to actually be to make sense and be able to explain it xD crazy how could no body else really teach this :S

  • ok.. I don't get it.. I have been practicing for awhile but, only the first hammer on sounds loud. then it gets super quite if I try to do more then one.. WTF!

  • @keola310 sounds like you need to keep the force of the hammer on more consistent...

  • @premiermusic wait are you using something called a compresser to do the hammer ons and pull offs. cause if your turning a compresser on or something.. I don't have one of thoughs.

  • @keola310 no compressor...just straight into the amp. you'll build hand strength through repetition but your pull offs need to be more towards the ground and not straight off the string or you won't get the string to sound.

  • @premiermusic I wasn't asking about pull offs. my pull offs make plenty of noise. and I'm sorry but, I'm putting a good ammount of force. that should not be as quiet as it is. if i wasn't putting enough force the first hammer on wouldn't make noise and when I didn't have my fingure down it should of had same effect. there is pobviously a trick to it.. maybe one your not even aware of.

  • @keola310 could you post a video of yourself playing the exercise? Maybe then I can see what you are doing...

  • @premiermusic I'm taking a break atm. I finally made my figers bilster and bleed while practicing you give love a bad name. and, i'd 90% sure that 90% of problem is my guitar. I got new amp and a peddle yesturday and tried out a gibson and another brand 600+ dollar guitars and was actually able to do the solo from parnoid that was hammer ons. so I got really piseed after that lol. and i also heard hitting to hard can mute the string as well. so you have to hit the string "just" right.

  • This was really helpful mark - thanks mate. Concise, informative and proffesionally conducted :)

A million times better than other people out there being little turds in their parents basement trying to teach anything, when instead they should be in the shower, washing the failure off themselves.

Keep up the great work :)

  • @pseudoMuso Thank you so much, sir! Your comment actually made me laugh a little,. too :)

  • @pseudoMuso oops...I replied from our studio account...anyhow, thanks a bunch...probably the best comment I've had in a while on one of these videos :)

  • Thanks, it helped me A LOT! =]

  • thank you

  • @ksmity100 No prob!

  • Subbed :D

  • This was an excellent lesson. Thank you for sharing! I'm currently learning bass and guitar from scratch, so I need the most basic of the basics.

  • Thank you!!!! I'm trying to teach myself guitar and everybody else just assumkes u know what hammering is without explaining it! U just saved me lots of heartache

  • thanks so much brill lesson you really helped me with it i searched for loads of vid lessons and you explained it the best keep it up XD

  • YOU SUCK!

  • OMG!!! Thank u so muck finally a video that shows you HOW to do hammer ons + pull offs!!!

  • On pull off`s, say i`m playing the 4th or the 3rd do I keep the 3rd or 2nd finger on or release and keep the 1st on?

  • On pull off`s, when you`re pulling the 4th or the 3rd do keep, say the 3rd or the 2nd finger on the string or release them and just keep the 1st on?

  • On pull off`s, when you`re pulling the fourth or the 3rd do you keep, say the 3rd and 2nd finger on the string or release them and keep the 1st on?

  • great lesson man i finally got it

  • I've been looking for a good tutorial for hammer on and pull offs for a few days, and so far yours is the best I've found. Great job, and thanks for posting this!!

  • Thankyou so much you have made this so clear.

  • this is a good lesson :D i searched a few vids for these tutorials wen i didnt know how to pull off properly wen i tried playin g the saint veronika solo D:

at the moment tho i still cant pull off from the top string like '7p0 8p0 5p0 7p0 3p0' without it bending and making a stupid sound wen i do it xD

  • this is good!

  • tell me something, this hammer on technique is impossible to do on classic guitar right? i know it might be a stupid question but i got my guitar (classic) few days ago and i just started to learn stuff :) and i thing its impossible to use this technique 'couse when i press a string it praticaly doesnt make any sound by it self, i need to pull it to get a sound.

  • Try with a pick on the acoustic guitar ;).

  • hey, thank you so much for posting this, now im finally getting this whole hammer on and pull off thing. do u use any effects on yr guitar to play it. ( just asking. im new to guitar suff. )

  • Nice tutorial*!

  • very good, very helpful unlike the other videos of same kind, where the guys just show how cool solos they can play and which is something i do not care about when i search for some help. This one though, helps, very easy to understand and also has a good practice suggestion. Thx alot

  • Do you have to have the settings on your amp really loud and with distortion or what? Cause whenever i do it it doesnt make any noise whatsoever and i understand the mechanics of hammer ons and pull offs.

  • You have to hammer with quite a bit o force down onto the string and when you pull off pull in a downward direction without bending the string....

  • helped

  • Comment removed

  • so TAHTS how its done! Im a bit new to the guitar world and this is sure to help me! Thanks, man. I had seen a bunch of other videos, but yours helped the most. Again, thanks!

  • Thanks for the lesson,

  • how do u make the hammer ons sound strong mine sound soft

  • well im not a guitar god

but id say because hes hamerring on and your just putting your finger down

    hammer on with force

    not like ARGH force

but still the same not like your holding a baby force

    inbetween

  • thanks man. this is a good lesson

  • thx man

  • Hi man,

    this one is very good.

I am right now trying to get this technique down, especially the pull-offs, and it´s very good explained by you. Thanks a lot!

    Greetz,

    Tomix

  • finally thank you

  • you wer alot more helpful than any or da other videos!!!

  • Great lesson and exercise, keep it up!

  • gr8 stuff..hav been lookin 4 somethin lik tis 4 de past few months...

  • i need help on pulll offs on a sheet teaching me a sond it says somet like 4 2 wat one do i pull off? first or urgh im confused

  • i can do the solo of one in with the triple pull-offs on guitar...hero cof cof

  • wow, ur a really good teacher. i cudnt get this at all before i saw this. =P

  • You sound exactly like Jim root of Slipknot xD

  • The way I talk or the way I play? :-)

  • talk :P well play to, but hammer on's and pull off's are well...very normal on a guitar xD

  • LOL

  • Thank you... that was extremely helpful for a noobie like me =))

  • hey listen bro,im going Ones second

solo by Metallica.and after the half way

theres a bunch of pulloffs that sound

like its sorta finger tapped.but its a pull

off on the 19 17 thjen 15..the tab looks kinda

like 19p17p15.and its just not working out

for me,so can you maybe do a video how to do

triple pull offs? PLEASE REPLY MAN!

  • I am to 99% sure that the beginning of the main solo of "one" by Metallica is tapped. I cannot imagine anyone playing it with pulloffs. But if you tap it its the simplest thing ever ;p that is if you mean that solo...i couldnt find any 19 17 15 in the second intro solo...

  • yeah cus in the second

solo which is after the second

chorus its like a triple pull off

and idk its sorta hard for me cus

i started playing like a couple months

ago.maybe this dude can make a video on a

triple cus only does a double

  • Ah now I know which solo you mean. Actually triple pulloffs go the same way as normal pulloffs...you leave one finger on 15 and another one on 19, than you hit the string, pull off 19 and hit and pull off 17 at the same time. Of course you leave the finger on 15 all the time. Try it, its simple. really ;p

  • i see,

    but when i do it

    it sounds wicked wierd.

maybe im just doing it too fast?

  • really great!

    thx a lot

  • thanks a ton, helped a lot!

  • I can do this but its realllllly slow. I've only been playing guitar for a few weeks. If I play them pretty slow, will I naturally get faster?

  • Slow and steady is the best way...gradually bring the tempo up with your metronome a beat or two at a time until you can't do it accurately anymore...it is something that really takes a long time to master, and if you rush it the results will not be as good....

  • Awesome man, ill keep practicing. I was just hoping since I was going so slow, that it wouldn't make me better. :D Thanks man!
