Ellis could become Missouri's second two time NCAA champion.
I'm anxious to see how Max Askren does in his final season. Rumor has it right now that he might being going to ASU, but as for now, I'll call that rumor B.S.
Max has the tools and the capabilities to finish as champion, but I'm not sure if he has the drive and the passion.
Nevertheless he's a great guy, and I have no doubt he'll go out a 3 time All American.
Sure is strange isn't it? Palmer wins here but yet in college Askren goes 2-2-1-1 where Palmer goes (2-2)-8th-R12-8th at the NCAA's including getting hammered by Askren their senior year. I suppose it really does matter where you go to college and other factors. I'm sure Columbia has great coaching, but not that of Missouri.
Mizzou has been ranked in the top 10 programs every year for about the last 5 or 6 years and in the top 20 since about 2000. I'd say the coaching is pretty solid but that's not the only reason Askren went on to become the better wrestler. Probably Palmer just reached the peak of his capabilities earlier than Ben. That helped Palmer in the early going but down the stretch his skills leveled out while Askren's kept getting better.
Oh I know, and while finishing 8th in the nation twice is still an honor it makes me wonder how much better Palmer would have been had he went to a better wrestling school. None the less with two 8th place finishes he goes out as one of Columbia Universities best.
Ahh okay. You confused me there. The University of Missouri is in Columbia, Missouri. Kind of threw me off. Anyway, who really knows? The bottom line I guess is that it was his choice to go there. I suppose he knew his bread wouldn't be buttered on a wrestling mat so he decided to make the best investment he could in his future also. Not that Missouri is a bad academic school but certainly not in the same league as Columbia.

No lower than 4th this year. Guarantee it.

Good job for both wrestlers. I guess we see who went on to become the better wrestler though. Best of luck to Askren in the Olympics.

Oh BTW, another Missouri wrestler won the championship this year. Junior Mark Ellis won the NCAA heavyweight championship.
