  • This band was so gay, but i never thought that until I got their live DVD. With the raghead, the flute, and the crazy pants. They sucked playing my favorite song, locomotive breath, and i threw their dvd out!

  • The deep rasp of this fellows voice may indicate the recent and protracted use of illicit natural plants through pipe or possibly paper formats.

  • @JosephHuntington Ah I see we have an expert on illicit natural plants! His voice was similar way back in the early early days of Tull, many many years ago... And why am I wasting my time reply to ..oh forget it... Merry Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 10 people think this is an easter song

  • 10 people think this is an easter song...

  • 10 people don't think this is just a Christmas song

  • the only christmas song I like :D

  • Long may they tour

  • Gonna see Ian tonight at Prague! Can't wait!!

  • I loved Ian's message in this song. I used to listen to this song when I was a teen.

  • Just listen "Phoenix - mugur de fluier" !

If isn't plagiarized then certainly Phoenix was a big inspiration for this song.

  • @transha111 Wait, it actually originaly appeared in 1972 on the Living With The Past CD.

  • @Pasalaqcua I think you're right :-?

    My bad :) Sorry!

  • fantastic thanks

  • I'm Jewish, and think this song is lovely and so poignant.

  • @paskatefan A good song indeed :)

  • Grab the audio from this video at speedyconversion doht cohm.

  • Jethro Tull were really fucking awful, what filth they played. A band for filthy middle aged pervert pedos. You middle aged folk make me sick!!!

  • @Maglobrog No u

  • @Maglobrog What the fuck is your problem. Go listen to sometihing else then.....

  • @Maglobrog why the hell are you listening to this video since you don't like it????

  • @takinnn I have friends who like this terrible music, they told me to check it out and it's awful. I didn't expect it to be this bad. This really is music for idiots, I'd rather listen to music by Justin Bieber.

  • @Maglobrog thanks for the ''idiot'' teen !

  • @takinnn No problem, you sleazy brazilian.

  • @Maglobrog 1/10

    you're not even trying

  • @Pasalaqcua Yeah that's the same rating I would give this song. I've tried, believe me I've tried to like this awful music, but it is just too fucking terrible, you guys must have shit in your ears.

  • @Maglobrog im so mad

  • @Pasalaqcua Why, do you have anger issues? I don't understand what that statement has to do with what I posted?

  • @Maglobrog

    umad bro?

This song attacked you indirectly? I know it's hard for some people to handle the truth, but it doesn't make it bad music. On the contrary. Just shows how much talent this band have

  • @Knightgil Have you no ears? You filthy Portuguese tramp. It's not the lyrics, I don't know what he is even singing It's just terribly corny. It's awful. Jethro Tull is the bane of British music, remember that hombre.

So how does it feel to be the poor man's Spain?

  • @Maglobrog ... In Youtube forums there´s always what we can call as "the everlasting moron", trying to provoke people with stupid opinions and insulting everyone. Congratulations, man... you´re lucky... you´ve just won the first prize for the Moron of the Day Contest.

  • @lizardking969

A Brazilian lol, first a Portuguese guy and now you. How does it feel being the poor man's Portugal? Shouldn't you be slanging dope in your shit hole Favela? You've just won a prize also, the 3rd worlder with an internet connection prize. So you must be the richest guy in your shanty town. Well done.

  • @Maglobrog ... How does it feel to be an opinionated asshole? You probably can´t even spot in the map where Brazil is... that´s what happens when you allow a fucking moron to use the internet: Instead of increasing your knowledge you waste your time trying to piss everybody off. You´d better get a shrink to cure your inferiority complex (and your awful musical taste as well). And by the way... I´m Spanish not Brazilian.

  • @Maglobrog ... I don´t know where you´re from...but one thing´s for sure... your English is crap. What´s that... poor man´s Portugal..? Go back to school..it should be the other way round .. Portugal´s poor man... be a good schoolboy and buy yourself a good English Grammar.

  • @lizardking969 And you're the retard that has never heard of an idiom. 'Poor man's' is an idiom that is used to say the inferior version of said thing. For example retard, Tom Jones is the poor man's Elvis Presley. Brazil is the poor man's Portugal. Do you get it spic? Not a difficult concept to grasp, is it?

I think you need to reacquaint yourself with English grammar. How you going to get yourself a green card hombre?

Trying to be smart, you Brazilian chode.

  • @Maglobrog ...now I can see, you´re a fucking arrogant yankee with ridiculous american idioms. I´m Spanish and I lived for a long time in England... that´s why I don´t know much of your pitiful slang. You yankees are killing Shakespeare´s language every time you speak...lol...

  • @Maglobrog ... Get over your stupid prejudices, don´t be a redneck and travel. It won´t do you no harm to open your mind to new cultures and ideas. You´re probably listening to country music all day and your small brain cannot grasp good music like Jethro Tull. You´re the poor man´s England... what about that..? hawhawhaw

  • @Maglobrog pedos? must be in your mind for some reason,Guilt maybe?Tull has more musicianship and ability to read great songs on paper than you read Classics at the dentist.Your Dick in Jane mentality proves your writings are that of a bombastic lowly child.Ill bet you have never even held a job or worked a job or even climbed the rope in gym class.Prolly saw yer mom tit one summer and have been wanking it to that thought ever since.Your mad cuz your bangs dont hang in your face like beibe

  • @BerkLeeDrm You appear to be an old man, a geezer. So I don't want to be disrespectful, but you're past it mate. That comment was ages ago, this song has sort of grown on me since then. I prefer Fat man and Mother Goose to this song though. :)

  • @Maglobrog this gizzard still plays drums in a jazz band and 5 string banjo in a bluegrass band for pay...MagBreath!!

  • My point is that you're effectively misinterpreting the lyrics. Living In The Past released one year after Aqualung. I think it's reasonable to conclude that Anderson's sentiments are similar.

  • Jeez , Ian , why so joyless ? You totally miss the meaning of christmas. You seem to think it's about a mythical baby who inflicted religion on an unsuspecting world. Nah - it's a time to relax and have fun , you spiritless grouch ! How are all your properties and investments , phoney ? Pity about the dumb lyrics because the music is brilliant.

  • @mickigoe I'm sorry, I didn't hear him say Jesus. Maybe you should have a listen to Lick Your Fingers Clean or My God.

  • @khanradd He doesn't mention the kid by name - true. So who else was reputed to be born in a cattle shed in David's city , according to fairy-tale ? Are you a lawyer , by any chance ?

  • Awesome Christmas song!!!!!

  • the lyric you have as, "So how can you laugh when your own mother's hungry?"

Should read, "So how can you eat when your own mother's hungry"

  • Hey Santa ! Pass us the bottle, will u.

    *lol*

nojoking - one of the famost christmas songs, yes !

  • Wonderful lyrics !

  • Marry Crhistmas!

  • Here's some great Christmas music. never even heard tyhis before. These guys were real musicians! Whatever happened to pro grock, and now we have computers making music. Just soo great to hear these guys

  • ..jah man !!!!

  • Best line: "You'd do well to remember the things he later said."

Still, IMO, it needs the "Hey, Santa, pass us that bottle, will you" on the end, just to relieve the didactic nature of it a bit.

  • @HealingArtsChorus

Yea it is a bit over the top but remember this was 1970s, and people for the most part believed in the Christmas story. Crass commercialism wasnt quite so crass and medium is the message was the watch word of the generation at the time.

Strange to say, I was driving throught the upper peninsula in a full snow storm at Christmas, to my parents house when I played my this new song on the 8 track .. This was the last song on the album.

    Great song..

    gm

  • this makes me think Christmas

  • at last...a christmas album i would'nt mind owning....

  • are those mandolins? they are unrelenting. incredible. they get more intense as the song progresses. would love to find more songs with that same level of uptempo drive by medieval instruments.

  • I preffer the 1972 original version.

  • "How can you EAT when your mother's hungry"

  • @clucaspik in this version it is eat, but in the original it is laugh

  • I LOVE the message in this song, and I'm atheist!! There's more to life than stuffing yourself at a Christmas party :] Even if you're not a Christian...it's the season of giving, and Jesus had some great things to say :D

  • @averysexyleon

You are so right because some people forget to read Matthew 25: 35-40 as well as the parable of the good samaritan. Ezekiel 16:49 says the same thing about being charitable. Today is National Roof Over Your Head Day and people need to contribute to homeless shelters.

  • @averysexyleon youre an atheist? well heres you a cookie and atheist pin

  • @longfootbuddy Hey, Where's my atheist pin? Just because I don't Have Jesus Christ Superstar to hang my faith on, I'm starting the next cult religion called " Save our earth from conservative idiots who won't have a planet to spew their vile from"

  • @willicat441 wow.. arent you cool

  • @longfootbuddy I love cookies, thanks brah.

  • love it and so did my dad, god rest his soul.

  • Love this album so much. Listen to it at least 20 times each year

  • Check out the 2010 version of Star ng Pasko. Amazing!

  • Truly be-au-ti-ful ! -- my favorite - no: my only - Xmas-song -- *Thanks* for uploading this !

  • I was living up in the Upper Penn of Michigan, when this album came out. It was 30 below zero F. I went to the store and this came on the radio.

Sometimes, it's moments like that that give you peace.

  • Thanks for posting this. It is refreshing seeing the painting in mid-August !

  • This is the best version of this song I have heard yet!!

  • I´ve never heard this version, it's great!!!

  • I first heard this song was years ago, circa 1976 when I bought the magnificent double album "Living in the Past". It was a slightly different version but just as well done as this.

  • Yes....... !

  • mu buenisimo

  • looking for name's of chrismas songs like this ..could use some help ! does any

    one have any ideas !

  • hearing this since the magical year of 1972

  • It was released as a single or the 'B' side of one.

I remember listening to it at 45rpm.

A different version to this and at the end ,when the song has finished,he says,"Eh Santa, pass us that bottle will ya".

  • beatyfull!!!!!

  • I thought it was "once in a royal FAVORED city"

  • merry christmas synnefoula!!!

    very nice song!

    cheers! :-))

  • Merry Christmas.χοχοχο.thankssssssssssss

  • .....i see the mountins........es ist so tolllll

  • And I thought that Jethro Tull were living in the past.... :P

    ....obviously not... :o)

  • Beautiful video and great song. Thank you!

    Happy new Year my friend.

    Thank you TheSinefo for sharing.

  • Love this, all of Tull!

  • been listening to this song since I was 12. Many good memories.

  • So powerfull song. I haven't hear this version before.

I used to digg this as a teenager, but after the worst Christmas I ever had, it got a whole new meaning.

  • Merry Christmas, everyone, and yay for Jethro Tull.

  • :-)

  • One of my very favorite Christmas tunes

  • Jethro Tull never gets old, great song.

  • Thank you! Ian Anderson

  • Great Band! Great Ian Anderson!

  • hey all,

i really need to understand the lyrics completely, 'cause i'm gonna take it to class on wednesday.

so: could anyone tell me what "a running jump" is?

i think i get it as a whole, i hope, at least.

    thanks for helping!

  • it's part of a phrase that usually goes something like this:" Take a running jump off the top of that skyscraper . ." get the idea? I do it a bit differently . .

  • thanx, greg, for your help!

our class turned out to be a very enjyable one.

my students loved the song - much more than i expected!

  • it really is a meaningful and timely song . . I'll have my version of it here in a few days. got it on the camera; gotts figger how to put it on the you tube. . . lol

  • music is a great educator. . I do a song called Benden White, about this planet where the musicians are the cheif educators, much can be learned through a song since it is able to convey the emotion sometimes needed to express a thought accurately. . Actually, Benden White is the next video I will have up in a few days ..

  • sort of "go and F*** yourself"

  • @kesceca I think a lot of people see religious faith as taking a running jump in a way -- banking your hope for the future in something you can't quantifiably prove; a "leap of faith".

That's just my interpretation of the lyric anyway, given the context of the rest of the song.

  • @MochaKimono Gentleman the whole concept of remembering the things He later said will clear the shadows of religion and Faith. But GOD says to seek Him out . Good Journey Pilgram

  • My favorite Christmas song...

    ...and so true...

    We can be better people...

  • Comment removed

  • @collisioncat99 With you on that one !! Love ians wisdom and spirit ..

  • @collisioncat99 Sorry, I'm already the best!!!

  • Beautiful... I want this album....I love Ian Anderson

  • Gorgeous!!

  • @charisfulone Just remember , it would do well to remember the things HE would say. in HIS peace have a blessed Christ-mas

  • Comment removed

  • Thank You! You as well Beautiful>

  • It's tull and it's christmas, so it's great. I'm not sure I understand it completely but is it about love? I love Jethro Tull! I would send them my lunch if they were hungry.

  • @dancingfruitcakes This song is about all the Hypocritical people

  • This song has weathered so well and so has Ian's voice. I was around when Benefit came out (4th grade) and Ian and the band changed my life forever, it seems, because I fell in love with them then and am still touched by almost everything they've done and are doing...and look forward to more. Ian's a blessed poet in my book.

  • @TheJackinthegreen The band certainly have a sound of their own, don't they. Its almost Celtic in sound. I, too fell in love with the band with the album "Benefit", which was the first album I heard by them, in 1972.

  • Comment removed

  • the original is much better,,I do not like this version

  • Comment removed

  • I totally agree. The original sounded super epic compared to this, and for some reason he left out the "Hey Santa, pass us that bottle, will ya?" That was the best part of the song.

  • Comment removed

  • Truly Beautiful, thank you for posting this.

  • You'd do well to remember the things He later said... very strong line really stands out to me and i m not even religious.. Behold the lyrical genius of Mr Anderson

  • Redone from the one on the 'Living in the past' album...Can't decide which I like better?---This version omits Ian's request to Santa! :0)

  • Hey Santa....Pass us that bottle will ya.

  • God, I forgot this song....how great to rediscover it again!

  • 20.23 alone christmas 2008, but quite happy not changing money at a christmas party...

  • Madonna, ke idolo ian anderson

  • the original can be found on the flip side of their single from 1968 "love song", on "living in the past", on "the best of Jethro Tull - anniversary collection" and the 2008 40th anniversary-release of "this was" as a bonus track.

  • Lets all have a real christmas,

don.t give in to the corporate pig greed season.

    Give your love and friendship.

If Jesus himself was to call on you your family this year..

Would you need to go and buy him a present??

    Worth thinking about.

Eric the viking on the edge of the wild.

  • sidensvans54, that comment really made me think!

  • I like the original version better, but I love this one too.

"A Christmas Song" is one of my favourite Christmas Songs.
