Probably because they release that their Beamers is the "Best of the best" anymore. I bet the ATS will never get on Top Gear. I don't even think they've tested the CTS-V yet.
@krocialblack Top Gear tested the CTS-V in the Bonneville episode and captain slow drove it. At first he didn't like it(since he thinks all cars are ruined at green hell) but he actually loved that car by the end.
@corduroygt This is from 2007: Cadillac saw global growth with sales increases outside of North America last year, thanks to a 45 percent increase in the Europe, a 42 percent climb in the Latin America, Africa and Middle East region, and an impressive 106 percent hike in the Asia Pacific region.
Are these actually fun to drive? I should test drive one... I just can't immagine a cadilac being more agile and fun than a 3 series... looks like too heavy.
@GethinJames I thought the exact same thing but I have to say that CTS-V can haul. For being a sedan it is actually rather light since they use a lot of aluminum in the chassis and body.
Only a ignorant fool would think Cadillac ATS can't compete with the 3 series... It's hardly the first time Cadillac said they would beat the Germans at their own game and actually do it.... CTS-V anyone?... not even Mercedes or Audi were ever able to take down the M5 or M3.
@Flabernat I totally agree. I'd also like to see chrysler turn their mediocre 200 into a 3series killer too. chrysler corp. badly needs a luxury brand. the 300 and the T & C are pulling their weight. the 200 needs to do the same. And Id also like the Lincolns to stop looking so gay. if they do that, then you already have the perfect 3 series competitor known as the MKZ.
@1101SEAN The M5, & M3 are luxury sedans that carry 4 people. The SLS & R8 aren't in that category, not even close. Like I said, CTS-V was the first to take down the mighty //M sedans, some thing Audi & Mercedes never could have.
@SmashBrosBrawl because it's smaller with a smaller navigation display, a grade lower plastic, and guaranteed to be crappy seats like in pretty much every GM car?
Soooooo to go round the Nürburgring faster than a Rolls, makes the poorly built Cadillac better? A Cadillac should NOT BE ANOTHER NAME FOR SPEED. Please go back to the fiftees.
@tavita you do get that he's driving so fast around the corner that the front right tire lifts off the ground right? When you turn right, the weight goes left?
@PolarIce37 right, and the restaurant next to the track isn't really named Grune Holle ("Green Hell"). Oh wait, it totally is. I have track map stickers that I bought while visiting the Nordschleife that read "Grune Holle" in the middle.
@EnjoyTheSilenceM Does the CTS-V ring a bell? And lets not forget. The V version of the ATS is coming out soon, and that's a straight shot for the M3. Looks like the mighty ///M has lost its power.
@alep85 Quit being so sensitive. The ATS will be a decent vehicle but I personally want an M3 and I will buy one. I'm not intimidated by this car in any way. That's a laughable prospect at best. I've read articles about and went to shows to see it in person. I still said that I wanted a 3 Series more specifically an M3.
@PredeterminedMind The Caddy crown symbolizes the six ancient counts of France. Each tip is topped with a pearl, a symbol of descendancy from the royal counts of Tolouse. The shield represents the origins of a noble family. Its shape pertains to those shield shapes used during the Crusades. The birds are merlettes. Merlettes were usually awarded by the school of heralds to knights making significant contributions in the Crusades....
@PredeterminedMind The "fess" or lateral black bar, represents an award for Crusader service. The red band symbolizes prowess and boldness in action. The silver represents purity, charity, virtue, and plenty. The blue represents knightly valor.
What's funny is if you listen closely they never say that this thing did or even can beat a 3 series... Also even if it can beat it no way it will be a better car.
@muffinman9311 I must point out how ridiculously stupid your comment is. Cadillac recently has designed many cars that are actually better than BMW inside and out. After this car is out, the 3 series will be outdated, dead and gone.
I'm sorry! But, if I have to choose between a German car vs American car (made in Canada, US and Mexico). I'll take ANY German car ANY day! Germans seriously know how to make some of the finest, beautiful and outstanding pieces of hardware!
@CarCurious As a GT-R (2010) (Japan i know) and M3 (2011) owner, never had any problems at all! And i push, sometimes, both cars at their limits! Been driving different German cars, different years, for a while and none of them gave me trouble!
@VagabundoR6 Your transmission hasn't had any problems in the GTR? I'm impressed. I've heard so many negative things about it. And I don't even completely trust the reliability lists in the first place, I do think BMWs are for the most part great cars. I would actually own one if I had the chance.. depending on the model. M3s are awesome cars, my friend has a convertible and it really is impressive.
You can tell that cadillac is a crap from one thing. BMW doesn't have to calim that they are better then cadillac in their ads. And no, cadillac defintetely isn't the best.

@doubleeyegouge I personally don't care much for Nurburgring times. When magazines say the interior quality is inferior and the seats and the transmission (automatic) is crap, I pay attention because that's the kind of cheapness that gives American cars a bad name.
Then there's the issue of super ugly styling that's bound to be unpopular pretty much anywhere outside the US.
We were in the States this year, over 5000 km through the country with a CTS. Very good and nice car. Now I'm working for Audi as an engineer, so don't forget the S4 oder RS4 ;-) But they're building great cars, good to know you in the competition. Good luck from Ingolstadt, Germany.
FACT: BMW has had a testing facility located right off the Nurburgring since 1991.
CONCLUSION: BMW doesn't just go to "Green Hell", they live there.
As an American, I wish Cadillac the best of luck in competing with the 3-series. As a 3-series driver, I know they're going to need all the luck they can get.
@leadfoot323 I despise GM for their little "give me some cash and I'll pretend to pay it back" trick they pulled... One thing is for certain though. You can't deny the fact that the record holding sedan in Green Hell is the CTS-V.
Conclusion: BMW may live in "Green Hell" but they have yet to conquer it.
Oh, get over it. They paid their loans back, and stock is trending up and the government won't do bad when they finally exit. What would you rather see? No GM and a bunch of yuppies, hippies, and hipsters in their Toyotas, Hondas, and Kias? I'd for masculinity and sensibility's sake hope not.
@slowgtp Ford/Lincoln... I'd like to see them step up to the plate but they're still trolling the nursing homes looking for customers with a valid driver's license. It's too bad. Don't get me wrong either. I'm not saying GM is a bad company or anything. I'm just upset that they screwed up and look to us for help when they knew they were failing for years. They're like the rich kid who takes risks because he knows mom/dad will be there to rescue him.
@59summerset Lets get something straight. It's clips and plastic. Duct tape and staples is something KIA can stick to with their glorified golf cart they call the Rio.
@Mansiotey Well, it's not exactly like the took the money and pissed it away. They're hiring people, they're making world competitive products. We're the only major industrialized country in the world that doesn't actively support its manufacturing base. They screwed up, yes. They know it, we know it, everybody knows it. Have they corrected their mistakes? It sure seems like it. We should rally behind the home team. I couldn't fathom a USA without domestics and people driving Jap cars
@MyTrevonne bmw just put heated steering wheels in their cars - Cadillac has already had that since 2000 , not to mention Cadillac is an older and better brand than bmw.
Cadillac's Latest Achievement: ATS with revolutionary CUE driver interface Technology. Meanwhile at BMW's Head Quarters in Munich, Germany; they're working on the innovated ideal of heated steering wheel, that will, most likely just cause your hands to become sweaty while handling.... Good job
Cadillac might as well go after the 3-series, there is not much of any other competition that fits the platform and performance aspirations. I have some doubts, but still think it'll be an awesome car from them.
They are. When they unveiled the ATS at the recent Detroit Auto Show, GM flat-out said that the BMW 3-Series was their target competition. It's a worthy and lofty ambition. Now it's a matter of side-by-side comparo testing by the auto magazines.
If Caddy comes out with an ATS-V, obviously, it's target is the M3.
@HeyErnie007 That was Captain Slow who does not like cars tuned at the Nurburgring...Clarkson said the "Fax Machine" had no soul even though it is faster than the 458.
@carmandan14 Look at how many times they slammed car makers that built cars specifically for the Nurburing. They even said the LFA could have been better, had Toyota not been obsessed with the Nurburing.
@carmandan14 Clarkson also noted that they were working on the MP4-12C even during the shooting. If you believe that all cars tested at the Nurburing are stellar, than surely the LFA is the best car on the planet. God only knows how much money Toyota pored into testing on the track.
What I am trying to say is that touting that the car can go around the Nurburing faster, doesn't always make it better. I wont jump the gun and automatically assume this is better than the 3-series, until I see it.
@HeyErnie007 I agree on making assumptions as well, but I have a hunch the ATS will be the alternative to the 3, simply by looking at the steps and attention to detail taken to engineer the vehicle compared to other GM sedans. I do not believe the ATS has been proven to be faster, I think Mark Reuss blabbed something on time, because they need publicity. On the LFA, Toyota's history with sporty cars is not good, so the vehicle was not interesting to me from the start...and a rip-off.
Not a confirmed number, and definitely not the fastest lap time recorded. That was simply a number shouted out during one of the testing videos. We're going to have to wait until it comes out to see how it does at the track.
Well i think the Cadillac was tested with the 3.6 DI so it didn't do bad. And god help BMW if that car was tested with the I4 turbo. Who knows, the car will eventually have a V8 and AWD and will have to compete with the deadly M3. This is gonna be a good year in car engineering.
Don't see any BMWs around here after about eight years of so. Not that they're bad vehicles, just too expensive to fix. It's all about the badge for these guys, anyway ... isn't that right?
Cadillac ATS-V anyone?

So this car is going to have:
- Similar weight as the 328i but with much less space inside
- Small windows/claustrophobic cabin compared to the 328i
- at least 3 mpg down on the 328i
- at best match the 3-series driving dynamics
- Styling that more people find ugly compared to the mostly inoffensive 328i
- Cheap interior materials compared to BMW (just look at CTS vs 5)
- Horrible depreciation and brand appeal compared to BMW
And people say it'll beat BMW? Keep dreaming...

Mansiotey 3 weeks ago
@Mansiotey Well, it's not exactly like the took the money and pissed it away. They're hiring people, they're making world competitive products. We're the only major industrialized country in the world that doesn't actively support its manufacturing base. They screwed up, yes. They know it, we know it, everybody knows it. Have they corrected their mistakes? It sure seems like it. We should rally behind the home team. I couldn't fathom a USA without domestics and people driving Jap cars

@leadfoot323
So does GM, buddy. You ever heard of Opel? They have a design center right off the 'Ring that all of GM uses to design and test their sportier cars.

@MyTrevonne bmw just put heated steering wheels in their cars - Cadillac has already had that since 2000 , not to mention Cadillac is an older and better brand than bmw.
UFCextra 3 weeks ago
Cadillac's Latest Achievement: ATS with revolutionary CUE driver interface Technology. Meanwhile at BMW's Head Quarters in Munich, Germany; they're working on the innovated ideal of heated steering wheel, that will, most likely just cause your hands to become sweaty while handling.... Good job

ATS>3>C. BMW better brace themselves
bdrake2042 3 weeks ago in playlist ATS: The Journey 31
Cadillac might as well go after the 3-series, there is not much of any other competition that fits the platform and performance aspirations. I have some doubts, but still think it'll be an awesome car from them.
competitionready 3 weeks ago
They are. When they unveiled the ATS at the recent Detroit Auto Show, GM flat-out said that the BMW 3-Series was their target competition. It's a worthy and lofty ambition. Now it's a matter of side-by-side comparo testing by the auto magazines.
If Caddy comes out with an ATS-V, obviously, it's target is the M3.
triplexxxsatyr 3 weeks ago
Actually, the car the ATS needs to beat is the Audi S4.

@HeyErnie007 That was Captain Slow who does not like cars tuned at the Nurburgring...Clarkson said the "Fax Machine" had no soul even though it is faster than the 458.
carmandan14 3 weeks ago
@carmandan14 Look at how many times they slammed car makers that built cars specifically for the Nurburing. They even said the LFA could have been better, had Toyota not been obsessed with the Nurburing.
HeyErnie007 3 weeks ago
@carmandan14 Clarkson also noted that they were working on the MP4-12C even during the shooting. If you believe that all cars tested at the Nurburing are stellar, than surely the LFA is the best car on the planet. God only knows how much money Toyota pored into testing on the track.
What I am trying to say is that touting that the car can go around the Nurburing faster, doesn't always make it better. I wont jump the gun and automatically assume this is better than the 3-series, until I see it.
HeyErnie007 3 weeks ago
@HeyErnie007 I agree on making assumptions as well, but I have a hunch the ATS will be the alternative to the 3, simply by looking at the steps and attention to detail taken to engineer the vehicle compared to other GM sedans. I do not believe the ATS has been proven to be faster, I think Mark Reuss blabbed something on time, because they need publicity. On the LFA, Toyota's history with sporty cars is not good, so the vehicle was not interesting to me from the start...and a rip-off.

bmw 335i time = 8:26 --- 146.56 km/h - BMW 335i (2006)
cadillac = 8:28.1 - 145.98 km/h - Cadillac ATS (2012)
ms372 3 weeks ago
@ms372
Not a confirmed number, and definitely not the fastest lap time recorded. That was simply a number shouted out during one of the testing videos. We're going to have to wait until it comes out to see how it does at the track.
alep85 3 weeks ago
@ms372
