Whenever I see a doors cover, I've noticed that they're the ones that spark up the most debate. I dunno, I think they're one of the toughest bands to cover because you have to find the right balance between the original version and your own interpretation. It never works if you try to replicate the Doors, but if you alter it too much, it loses that magic that Jim, Ray, Robby and John first brought to the song, I think soundgarden does a good job keeping it intact.
what??? have you people ever listened to Soundgarden or The Doors?????? both of them far from sellouts. And both of them are far from being pop. and i agree on the covers thing, good to hear bands play songs differently, but sometimes it can be fine if they just play it as it is and its great of bands like soundgarden to play songs with bands they like and maybe get more people and younger people to check bands out that they wouldnt do otherwise
Why do you need a band to bring the Doors to a new generation? surely if they can not understand the music, they shouldnt listen to it because its cool or whatever. And god dammit, im in that generation.
About bringing the doors to a new generation...this generation is kinda unwillful. Back in the 60's they worshiped the music, smoked weed, took LSD, and worshiped it. These guys are like slimy, unthoughtful, greasy, money grabbing punks
The doors are much more sell out then soundgarden ever was, the doors wrote a lot of pop music, they were a pop band, Soundgarden was not, except for black hole sun.
Since I was around then snot nose, let me give you some history. The Doors had no choice but make pop radio stations. Till Jim and the band arrived there really hadn't been a male singer who on his own could totally hypnotize an audience (especially the ladies). I like Soundgarden, but Chris Cornell is not even a skid mark on Jim Morrison's shorts when it comes to vocal presence and power. RIP Jim
Actually their only real pop was off their fourth album, when the band was at odds w/ each other, and they released the song 'touch me'. But still that had a good 4 songs out of 8 that were decent.
Personally, I think Soundgarden were/are one of the greatest group of artists of the 20th century. They certainly are not "Money Grabbing" when you consider that as soon as they achieved commercial success, they released an largely experimental follow up album and broke up.
If you are talking about modern, post 2000 indie/emo/pop - then I whole heartedly agree. They are slimey little punks.
Soundgarden however, are immortal in my eyes, and should not be brushed aside as 'Unthoughtful'.
I never knew Soundgarden like The Doors!!! That makes them even cooler then I thought before...(I am a bit new to Soundgarden but my favorite band is The Doors) but no this is actually kinda good
I'm sick of all these people talking about "oh, jim would have wanted this, or jim would not have wanted this" wtf do these fucktards know? chances are most of them were still swimming in their dad's sack when this man was alive so yeah, they can STFU.
Wow, I thought I never would have actually seen this cover from Soundgarden again! I was at this show and have been looking for this cover. Thank You for posting!
Anyone know where I can find the original version "Live." I can't find one on the Tube. And don't waste my time with smart ass remarks like go to their concert.
SOUNDGARDEN IS ALLOWED!! HELL-O? to step in Jim Morisons' & Ray Manzarek's SHOES! The Grunge era really tried to bring us back to where we once belong in that the "Generation X" children , we try to fulfill the MISSION of Our 1960's
What's the point on playing the song exactly like the original? That is for the Doors, in this case... The cool thing about cover songs is hearing the song with a different perspective... Loved the grunge cover!
cornell keep on singing but this song isnt supposed to sound grunge and heavy like this i understand its their take but in my opinion they killed a beautiful song
as a fan of both grunge and The doors I thought this was a pretty decent cover. I hated the chorus though.. Cornell pretty much screwed that up. But if i heard this on the radio and i hadn't heard the doors version first, i would think this was a fuckin good song.
You'd like it better if they made exact copy of the original? They made it their way and I respect them for that. I'm a big Doors fan, but I think if someone want to make a cover, he should make it in his own way. I hate coverbands.
yeah, and this is very good, cause it's about rock, but if you're looking for triping songs and drugs you can stay with the original, you can say that this doesn't like you, but this guys doesn't kill the song... also the sound is awfull but isn't soundgarden's fault, i love the doors by the way
Ahhh, good stuff! Now we know where "Black Hole Sun" came from, inspirationally speaking, of course.
