  • The Morse Code found in this song is 3 dots-3 dashes-3 dots....S O S

  • KGGO is still the major rock station in Iowa and this song was written during the band being stranded in Iowa. Ahhh ,the memories of growing up in Northern Des Moines !

  • KGGO is still the major rock station in central Iowa. This song was written after the band was stranded in Iowa...

  • fair enough cover but not a patch on the original. wish someone would upload that.

  • I'd just like to say that Manfred Mann's Earth Band is the greatest band of all time.

  • notice the gal says Runnels way,i drive that road all the time

  • 3:05 - "Hotel Echo, this is Charlie Delta..." *cue lead synth*

  • Fort Dodge thumbs

  • Fort Dodge here, my Dad played this ALL the time when I was a kid

  • I just try to buy this cd(chance) but so far, no possible; any suggestion?

  • @carlosllanos1 this disk is available via import from france..it's how i got it

  • I grew up in Des Moines and remember KGGO playing this a lot. Thanks for sharing!

  • Almost forgot that Trevor Rabin (later of Yes fame) is the guitarist in this song, and I had no idea that he also produced it. How about that!

  • Very cool! Thanks for this. Great to hear one of the first albums Trevor produced (and plays guitar on) for his lofelong friend Manfred Mann.

  • Does anyone know the morse code in it? I do, and I'm a chick. ;-)

  • dr. please enlighten us to the morse code I am very interested!!!

    PEACE

  • iowa weather does suck take it from someone who lives in iowa and have all my life

  • Great song, had it on vinyl. Thanks for sharing it! One of my all time favorites. Btw, please get the credits in the video intro corrected. As other have pointed out, the correct info is: Artist: Manfred Mann's Earth Band. Track: Stranded. Album: Chance (1980).

  • Yup,a KGGO winter standard. When the DJ breaks this out, driving isn't such a great idea. I really don't know how many times I've heard this in the car when I was a delivery driver. :)

  • KGGO rocked in the 70's and 80's Love this song and yes I m still Stranded In Iowa

  • That is one bad-ass snowman at the end.

  • My, this does look familiar...

  • Thanks! mw21bb23

  • My, this does look awfully familiar...

  • Great TUNE

  • Great TUNE

  • Those aren't ICBM anything. Those are aviation weather reports. It's "mist", not "missed" along with the visibility "4 miles".

  • I like the fact that this song means so many different things to so many people. All I picture though is a bunch of Spitfires returning from a mission over the Channel, with one or two of them damaged and thus being forced to make an emergency landing. And though it is the shipping forecast, how far removed is "7 miles, 1016, rising," to "A crescent at Angels one five."

  • I hate Iowa.

  • Oh man. Grew up in Iowa. Remember this song and haven't heard it in decades...

  • First, it is not a shipping forcast. If you grew up during the Cold War (50's and on), you might recognize that as missle launch data, hits & misses and the may-days as "Stranded" troops.

  • Every time I leave Iowa, it always calls me back.

  • stranded in iowa city

  • stranded in iowa city

  • Ok, first this is not a weather forcast. Anyone who lived thru the cold war knows this is a description of missle launches, apogees and fallings. Nuclear winter!

  • We are always stranded in Canada! Just shovel the stuff and sing this song! Rock on!

  • The info on this video is wrong. The correct info:

    Artist: Manfred Mann's Earth Band

    Album: Chance

    Song: Stranded

I have on vinyl; had to download this CD though. It's impossible to find.

  • @ZiggyTheHamster - Thank you for that information. You are correct, and the title has been corrected. The source where this file was found had incorrect liner notes, which never sounded quite right to me. But as expected, the always astute Youtube rock n' roll crowd misses nothing! Great album to have on vinyl, you are lucky. One of my all time favorites.

  • @ZiggyTheHamster They have just remastered the CD and re-released it. It is now also on Rhapsody and Amazon. I just got it. This is one of my most-favorite songs from that period. Has Morse code - S E E T S and other shortwave sounds.

  • My. this looks familiar...*grin*

  • Classic song, hell I still am stranded in Iowa, KGGO rocks....class of 85 :)

  • What is with the shipping forcast? I never understood why the lyrics say stranded in Iowa and there is a shipping forcast playing.

  • @kubrick681 It's not a shipping forcast. You must be post Cold-war born as these are ICBM missile launches, hits, misses and everything in between!

  • @kubrick681 Stranded in Iowa, USA but missing his girl in the UK (the UK shipping forecast from BBC World Service Radio) which is closed in under deep depression. As for the clowns who think it has anything to do with ICBMs they certainly have to be merkins. Who have never even looked at an atlas of the waters around the UK or they would recognise the names of the shipping areas. Nothing to do with aircraft either. Mr quick off the draw. ID your target next time

  • I loved this song when I was a kid. They always played during a blizzard back then.

  • Man are we dating ourselves. I loved this song when I was a kid. Always played during the blizzards back then.

  • I been stranded in Iowa for 30 years.......lol

  • Here I am in central Iowa...we made it through the last round of snow...another round even worse is on the way + ice!

Would I want to live anywhere else?

    Not a chance.

    : )

  • If I am not back in 2 weeks..I AM STRANDED in IOWA! SEND HELP! :)

  • Holly crap i was a fan of this back when it came out....LOVE it thanks for posting it!!!

  • Anyone who thinks that Bumfuck Egypt is the far end of the earth hasn't been to the Cedar Rapids airport in blizzard.

  • same here in Mason City today...wow, the blue car looks like mine...

  • Yeah, I'm buried in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Always looking for this song when this happens.

  • KGGO in Des Moines played this song a lot in the 80's when I lived there.

  • @mw21bb23 They still do. ;-)

  • @mw21bb23 They tend to play it when there is a lot of snow. (Almost every freakin year. [Iowa + Winter = Sucks])

  • @mw21bb23 At least for the past several years, KGGO breaks this song out in winter when road conditions get bad.

  • @mw21bb23 They still do. ;-)

  • Id like to PERSONALLY THANK YOU for making this video... Im currently buried in 3 ft of snow in Council Bluffs Iowa and have been looking EVERYWHERE for this song on video for my Facebook!!! TY TY TY
