You see a wise move in this situation is NOT to 'tense' up your face and screw it up tight when pushing through the knives.

When you tense your face up like this guy did, the muscles and flesh become exposed, reducing the surface area of the contact surface against the knives.

We know that 'pressure' is what causes blades to penetrate skin, where

P=F/A where F=applied force and A=surface area.

Clearly over a larger surface area the pressure would be reduced, thus reducing the lacerations.

Nah. If you fail in that trap, you die somewhat quickly. With the pit of needles, if you fail to find the key, you're trapped in that roomw ith the gas pouring in and the needles stuck inside you, slowly killing you in about two hours* time.

*According to a Wikipedia page, most of Jigsaw's slow-reacting poisons take about 2 hours to kill someone.
