the early models had pretty low gearing stock, something like 3.88's. I think the later models went to 4.12's

it isnt called IDA engine, its a vw aircooled engine, with, 94mm piston and 84mm crankshaft, with dual, weber 48IDA carbs..

look on "the samba" there are a tone of places that could build you a kill set up

Just as isaacd101 said, look on thesamba. drdracing and chicoperformance i'd say are the best engine builder's around. Expect to spend 4-8 grand on a turnkey engine with 48ida's though.
