  • you are playing good ...and you know it :)

  • He is pretty good!

  • @ZapperJet What I've found is that to get that nice jazz sound, you should switch to the pick up closest to the neck. When I first started playing jazz guitar I couldn't figure out why my hollow body didn't sound like all the other jazz cats, and that was one of the main reasons why. And flatwounds sure as heck don't hurt.

  • @ZapperJet I'd say they're definately flat wounds, you can hear it when she plays bass notes. You don't need to use them to get a jazz sound but it can help.

  • @ZapperJet i don't think they either sound or look like flat wound strings.

  • WEAK!

  • Melody, chords, bass line and rithmics, all at the same time. What other instrument can do that?

  • @alfredoleong the piano hahah

  • @alfredoleong Piano. = P

  • @alfredoleong A piano?

  • D Natural Blues in B flat....

  • damn shes hot!!!

  • @whiteej21 Its just like having to read peoples ill conceived prose....we assume its because they have not actually lived on the planet long enough to foster a point of reference. You drink beer and then you piss it out....whether its good or bad is completely subjective, the same can be applied to any avenue of human endeavor . Humans shit in their own fresh water source ...... The earth will soon quickly move us on so a more interesting species can steward this planet.

  • @whiteej21

well Robert Johnson didnt invent the penatonic minor scale friend....that W.A. MOZART!!

  • Esto si es tocar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 4:33 she starts out with "high"...certainly appropiate...oh, yeah, she can play her ass off.

  • What's the name of this opening song?

  • @Lionasaurus The first 2/3 are from "D Natural Blues" by Wes Montgomery, (from "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery") the last 1/3 is from Blue Monk. In Bb. I don't know what she called it, but it's quite clear that's what she's done.

  • Cool video. This brings back memories. I was just a college lad back in May 1984 when I saw Emily play at Cal Poly Pomona. She played a red guitar that looked like a Gibson 335. She looked slightly heavier than in this video.

It was a small audience (maybe 40 or so). So I sat towards the front and had a lot of eye contact with her. If I had known she would die just 6 years later I would have talked to her after the show. Then again, I was a shy dude with almost no guitar chops. Oh well.

  • @whiteej21 Wel then say top 100 rock guitarists. Besides they had Joan Jett ahead of David Gilmour which says it all.

  • @whiteej21 Because they are dead? Lennon is dead. So is Hendrix. Is their music dead? Bach and Mozart music will never die.

  • @whiteej21 It's essential to hear and good to read. So, given the opportunity, learn to read otherwise you better be damn good a hearing something once and playing it back and remembering it.

  • @whiteej21 See that's your opinion. Snobs exist everywhere in music. Like heavy metal players looking down at rappers or Hard Rockers looking down at disco. It's all the same. If you want to call Bach or Mozart dead music good luck to you because that is so ignorant. Ignorant is also the Rolling Stone Magazine list of the 100 greatest guitarists with 0 classical players, 1 jazz player (John McLaughlin).

  • @whiteej21 What? She's talking about the feel of swing and accenting on the 2 and 4 beat. Not for note for note interpretation. If you accent on the 1 and 3 it's not swinging. I must say, it's the rockers who want want note for note tabs on solos so the they can play them exactly the way their guitar Gods play them. So, I wouldn't refer to it being a thing for just classical musicians. My first instrument is the classical guitar but I taught various styles.

  • @whiteej21 Geez. Why do people call it being a snob when you are demonstrating the way to play something in music. I call it making a point. Thank goodness for people like her. It's too bad she passed away at such a young age.

  • looks like shes doped out but she still rips it

  • Very impressive...nice tempo, feeling, and well thought out phrasing. Question: what model of guitar are you playing? Great tone! Thanks, jayfender58@yahoo.com

  • @jfender58

Your question: what model of guitar are "you" playing implies that you think Emily Remler has uploaded this video. Let me tell you, Emily Remler alreaday died on 7th May 1990!

BTW I do not know what guitar she was playing in this vid.

  • @jfender58 I think she is using a Borys B120 but I'm not 100% sure. She also used a Gibson ES 330. But that has a double cutaway.

  • @darkoanton5 Not that I can read Gibson on the head stock but it looks a lot like a Gibson Super 400 CES. Maybe the name is blocked off for some reason. www2.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Archtop/Gibson-Custom/Super-400-CES.aspx

  • yeah!!!! great!!!! that's my inspiration!!!!!

  • The mashup of all those heads is so cool. I'm inspired now.

  • Nice!

  • @whiteej21 You taught jazz guitar,or theory? I have no idea about jazz other than my first guitar teacher, back then the only way to get him to listen to a rock shredder guitarist was to mention someone who played in something he liked,''so i mention steve vai played in Zappa and he said well anyone who played in Zappa has got to be good..

  • @whiteej21 Yeah i know what you mean,'' Walk into a jazz guitar class,And hit a fucking E chord like you mean it,''then just bust out ice cream man on acoustic,''And watch the looks,''The older older guys enjoy your limitations or ignorance..Intermediate class will shine you on...Fuck i don't know..!hA

  • @whiteej21 Wonder what she thinks of ULi Jon Roth 70's scorpions, or buckethead?..!aH ..She's strictly jazz?. She has to like AL di meola at least?

  • @whiteej21 Amazing ,men are attracted to women guitarist? ''Well not really amazing..' I always had a fetish for them too,' but the girls i went with were not walking encyclopedias, on jazz swing bebop rhythm..!aH And then look at you like your never going to jam with me again cause timing was millimeter of a second off cause of fucked up 13Th chord that fingers aren't used to,'' unless you bow down pay me,'' and become a student! !aH

  • @whiteej21 Good comment dude..."But what are business socks??

  • Damn she's all over the walking bass lines..She's cooking with her blues and greens,''but she could use some bacon to make it sizzle..' Bread and butter beans and rice,'I guess that's nice,''But taking a lesson from her?''I don't know? It's like skating upon thin ice, it would be wise to think first twice? C'mon,''you guys know''?, That cartoon right after electric woman and dyna girl and land of the lost with that fire breathing dimetrodon,''Total KISS rip off.. .. .!aH

  • @haedadru it's the tempo the feeling i get. I can't listen to this for very long, and trust me, I love jazz. My comment was a little over the top, didn't mean to offend.

  • This chic is a great player...very nice tone and feel

  • I would like to know why would someone thumbs down this

  • for a change female guitar player COOLLLLLLLLL

  • Is she playing flat wounds?

  • @HendrixcommaMartin If you find out tell me. lol

  • honestly, the first woman i see on youtube, playin guitar :o

    but briliant! i like it so ... 5 *

  • 2:53 -> ops...

  • @maneh84 That's what makes jazz great! It is played by humans. If you want music error free listen to the top 40, 3 chord, computer generated stuff.

This is real! No punch ins, no 2nd take.

  • Great player. Pity she had to self medicate -- but I will not cast any stones -- and wish her only peace.

  • She's no doubt high as a kite here. What a shame.

  • that´s how you get the feeling. see also "john frusciante" for more reference.

  • it's like saying that expressionism should look like pop art or like surrealism... nonsense isn't it?

she is wonderful, just like all jazz styles, if you don't like it it's not our fault

  • dude it´s a woman! consider this!

  • @jfarcouette This is a replica of the D Natural Blues of the late, great Wes Montgomery. This jazz can therefore not possibly be defined as lame.

  • @TheEnglishRedneck45 Look, Wes is a good player, but not my favorite.

  • what a groove! it looks like Mimi Fox's playing.

  • She's the first jazzwoman I see, what a pity to know she died young, she is amazing, I believe she had a lot of things to show... seth3556r is mentaly frustrated, learn your chords first before you judge other real guitar players.

  • you're literally to retarded to insult

  • you can only hate, I adore to see her passion for music! it is what you lack

  • @seth3556r you're just a poor idiot

  • and why you deserved to live ?

  • don't comment me, you're just another lifeless internet junky

  • Dit me may

  • The song is D Natural Blues by Wes Montgomery

  • with a little 'Blue Monk' on the first turnaround. she seems to have jammed her own version.

  • Shut up and play yer guitar!

  • Hey stop squabbling kids! Anyone know what the first piece is called or is it just an improvisation? Peace and love baby

  • pretty cool!

  • you couldnt play the first 20 seconds of this

  • don't need to know you , and don't want to

  • ok so don't say anything in the first place

  • you can't play what she is doing. just shut your fucking mouth.

  • @bitcheznhos i could.

  • @GLeone221 grats

  • She's got the 'Joe Pass' face down also!

  • That's so stolen, anyways it's pretty good.

  • omg, why did she pass away! she was freakin great. And i just found her too! freakin a' man. im glad her work is so widely appreciated :D

    Shootz

  • Very very cool. Just the style I am trying to learn. I love the fact you are not using a pick. Groove on sister!

  • Is this a Wes Montgomery tune?

  • The head is from "D Natural Blues" from Wes's album "The Incredible Jazz Guitar", but Emily is playing this example in B flat. She also departs from the Wes melody pretty quickly.

  • I thought so, thanks man. :)

  • the first turnaround also quotes 'blue monk'...

  • Hey! Your nickname is pretty good (the best ever in fact!) but your judgement is too hard...

  • this is my judgement , so you don't have to agree with me. But i'm respectful for yours.

  • i see by your nickname that you are all about being original.

    sir, you are __________

    fill in whatever you wish.

  • sir, you are(have) taken my woman.

  • I think she was the coolest guitarist and her style is so cool. She's just sitting there enjoying the music and me too!

  • you are an idiot. You are talking about stealing style and you are using the name Hendrix?

  • if i were using Adolf Hitler as nick name , would i steal his ideas or imitate his plans or something like that?

  • Swingin' like a Mofo.

  • This is a canonical Wes Montgomery tune. Can't recall which one... Great version of it.

  • It's "D Natural Blues" with a bit of "Blue Monk"

  • very smooth and relaxed - awesome!

  • EMILY .. YOU SWING GREAT .. and great ideas.. great sound.. and solo is extra hard .. very soulful

  • You know she dead right?

  • Hey area 51.. Yeah i know she is not on the planet..but I still talk about the departed as if they ARE STILL HERE NOW . So Bird lives, Train is still present.. and Bill Evans was really never of or from this planet.. can you dig it?

  • That's beatiful man

  • Does anyone know where I can download or purchase any of her cd's?

    I can't find anything anywhere!

Please get back, I'm desperate to hear her sweet sounds all day!

  • yes! if you search for emily remler bebop...you can find at usd 22.50. I love that sound too and trying to learn on guitar. It is quite simple but I find it best of swing, true simple soul...byby Angelo

  • DO YOU HAVE A MAIL TO SEND THE LINK?

  • Emily can fuckin bop. that 16th note section is killin. nice voicings too

  • pleaaaaaaaaaasssssssseeeeee TABS!! I know it´s damn hard but nothing is imposible!! i´m on my knees

  • idiot, there are no tabs, it's an improvisation... if you want them, please use your fucking ear!!!

  • because no tablatures for improvised music exist

  • Much of this video has been transcribed as it's an INSTRUCTIONAL video.

  • idolaaa

  • EVERYONE. I am lame. Subscribe to lzapped's videos. He's got both Emily Remler's Hot Licks videos uploaded in their entirety.

  • YOU ARE NOTE LAME!!!

  • Well, thanks for the kind words my good man! I am always one step behind with this intarweb technology, and i think i just got plain lucky with ripping/uploading these clips to begin with. Take my friendly advice and just subscribe to lzapped's videos, and stop waiting for me to upload the rest of her videos LOL!

  • Emily died of a cocaine overdose. There aren't too many ways to induce a 'heart failure' in an otherwise healthy 32 year old, and 'heart failure' is just a nice way of saying it.

What a loss of a wonderfully talented person.

    R.I.P., Emily.

  • actually it most likely was heroin, not cocaine.

  • screw them both... drugs take away the beauty of the world. If ya'll need to get high, play harder and/or smoke a joint. geez. This is awesome, I just heard of heard of her today and I'm already a fan. Great stuff... fuck drugs though.

  • haha I love that.

"If ya'll need to get high, play harder"

  • Someone mentioned it already: "D-Natural Blues." You can find it on the album "The Incredible Jazz Guitar of Wes Montgomery."

  • whats the tune she's playing?

  • lol :D yeah! :D

  • hadn't heard of her passing whatta shame...I bought one of her albums many years ago on a whim and fell in love with her music.

  • R.I.P. Emily. I don't get it either. Parker and Coltrane died young too, and both took it intravenously. I don't know if the drugs made them superhuman musicians or they were already kicking ass and didn't know how to handle their greatness. I dunno.

  • why are alot of these jazz artists heroin and coke addicts? i dont get it! :(

  • Drugs seem to go with that whole musician night life thing. I dont think they ever have a stable life. Always wondering when you are going work again, traveling to gigs, so the family life suffers. Marriges fail. No thanks I'd rather be a hobby player and have a stable life.

  • No kidding! She died so young...so sexy...and we never got to see her full potential which I'm sure was awesome! Makes a great case for serious intervenion, no?

  • is that how she died?

  • yup, sad...

  • She died of heart failure at 32 my god.

  • great job on wes's "d natural blues" i think it was on his movin' on album. wes has a great best of cd called,"so much guitar" try it.

  • hey sletch, you obviously haven't heard Django

then. That is REINHARDT. He's still the best that ever lived. Just ask the gypsies in Europe who to this day meet every year in Samois, France to play his huge repertoire. BTW Django was also a phenomenal bebop player, and played fingerstyle flamenco very well too.

  • Amen.

    Django is still the best.

  • The word "best" is really subjective, but I must say that Django's two left-hand fingers were better if not the same as other fast players. It would've been amazing to watch John McLaughlin and Django play together, had they belonged to the same era.

  • Beautiful chord progressions around 2:30.

  • damn this bitch is swangin!

  • this is awesome.

    nice guitar.

    anyone know what it is?

  • COOL

  • the best swing guitar I ever herd

  • It's no secret by listening to her playing, that she really dug Wes Montgomery anbd there is no greater guitar player to dig. Too bad she's gone. Great Talent.

  • she's gone?.. she's dead?

  • RockerTAV8, Yeah, she's deceased. I'm not exactly sure, bit it wasn't that recent. Supposedly of a drug overdose. Sad.

  • She died of a heart attack here in Australia. She was a heroin addict. I have this hotlicks video and was saddened to learn she had died.

  • Thanks for the info BluPup, clears it up for me. Pretty sad still. Thanks again.

  • she died in 1990

  • I just meet her on the youtube, and a minute later..she's dead? fuck!..It seems like all talented artists are doomed (just start to remember all the famous and non famous painters and musicians gone..so young..pff una mierda. (a shit!) for those who do not speak spanish.

  • Very good

  • lovely
