i work at Hot Topic... We don't allow photos in the store not because of copyright infringement, but because we have a lot of competitors who have sent people into our stores, taken photos of our merch, and taken it back to their HQ's to copy it.

Typically, if you're polite and ask first, we'll still let you take photos, but I guess that really depends on which Hot Topic you're at. :-(
