Kathy Mattea speaks out against Mtn-top Removal Coal Mining

I am a West Virginian. I know what she is talkin' about. I actually live near Nitro(where she was born). I live in Oceana, WV. If mountain-top removal is successful, many people would lose their jobs in the Appalchia region(West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee,and Alabama). Coal mining provides at least 50% or more of the nation's ELECTRICITY. I might be too young to vote but I can sure voice my opinion. I actually know a state senator in WV's government. He is against mountain-top removal.

Mountain Top Removal is a method of coal mining that cuts out the coal miner part of the business. So actually they are out of work on this deal also.

she is from wv,and her and ashly judd is both against the mt.top removel,well alot of shopping centers,hosptials,airports are built on mt.top removel..walmart in paintsville ky. knott county sports complex for the kids,and not counting homes and farm land also that you couldnt get up a holler,so she doesnt need to sing about the coal miners when she is trying to put them out of work,obama is trying to shut the coal plants down,so your electric bills will skyrocket..COAL KEEPS THE LIGHTS ON.&jobs

@missysplace68 o so u don't mind that rivers and towns are destroyed by this type of coal mining. I am not saying to completely stop but to do it the long way. U do realize there is no real jobs for coal miners. They just blow the top off, scoop out the coal, and move on. There are no real major jobs for this type of mining. It's just so its done cheaply. How would u like it if someone just blew up the mountain near u and then it caused the river to flood from the non-coal stuff in it?

Once you take the coal out and the mountains and streams and hollars are gone, they're gone and the local population is SOL. Preserve the natural beauty. It will continue to give and give for generations. We can all do our part by reducing our own energy consumption.

West Virginia has a future. It has to choose. One path is to continue to destroy its beautiful mountains for the sacred mining industry. The other is preserving its mountains for the tourist industry which is creating jobs at 3 times the rate of the mining industry.

West Virginia has no future if its future is tied to the exploitation of the poor and to the destruction of our natural resources. Anyone with a brain can see this. However, the coal companies have everyone fooled, and they've bought the legislature and every governor has been in their pocket.
